Kudler Fine Foods is a gourmet grocery store located in Southern California established in 1998 by Kathy Kudler. Kudler Fine Foods currently has three locations, and they are planning on opening a fourth location and consolidating the third stores with the new one. The company also plans on expanding to San Francisco, and other areas outside of the state of California in the next 5-10 years.

Although Kathy has a passion for food and her clientele, she lacks experience in management and organization, as well as financial matters. The three stores are currently being run by Kathy, and a store manager and assistant manager at each store. Kathy visits the three stores daily and makes all the final decisions personally. Currently they do not have a website, and they are not electronically tracking orders, monthly earnings or spendings. This lack of use of technology makes tracking this information time consuming and difficult. Kathy also does all the purchasing herself, and since Kudler Fine Foods is dealing with mainly perishables, tracking inventory becomes a huge consideration. At this time, there is no contingency plan if Kathy gets ill and is unable to personally tend to the business. “All organizations need to have contingency plans for

Problem statement: Kathy Kudlers’ lack of trust is prohibiting her from expanding the company to its full potential.

Kathy needs to delegate areas of the business such as purchasing, finance, marketing and advertising, as well as catering. By delegating she will have more time to focus on the customers in the front of the store, which she really enjoys, and it will also allow her to lead as opposed to manage. She is currently operating like a supervisor
