LAKME Overview

India, with a population of nearly a billion people, is a country of contrasts. India's urban population is the main engine that fuels the demand for various cosmetic products. Although Indians are strongly attached and committed to their traditions, and culture, the advent of television and the awareness of the western world is changing the tastes and customs of India. The ‘morphing’ of India is subtle and the changes are not visible for the first

Summary: A Night At The Opera

...As soon as the orchestra started playing, the audience stood and sang the national anthem. When the song was over, the main conductor made his entrance and the narrator gave a brief description of the piece that was about to be played. Richard Wagner’s Prelude to Act III of Lohengrin is a Romantic opera which was first performed in 1850. Act III is best known for its Bridal Chorus. Crash cymbals were used in this piece backed up by violins played at an allegro tempo, as well as the plucking of the violas. The next piece was my favorite; the opera piece Flower Duet from Lakme, nicely harmonized by the Soprano and Mezzo Soprano. The famous Aria, Votre Toast (The Toreador Song) from the the French opera Carmen lighten up the mood of the concert because of its comical nature. The baritone singer was interacting with the audience in the front row by singing to them. The second part of the program was even more amusing. It began with an opera piece I have heard before named Largo al factorum from The Barber of Seville. I recognized it right away for the “figaro” part. It was also comedic because it tells the story of a barber who is so busy because everyone’s looking for him. O Fond du temple saint from The Pearl Fishers was interesting to watch because as the duet (baritone and tenor) were singing, a ballet dancer...

Csr & Its Initiatives

...1) MEANING OF CSR Corporate Social Responsibility is a management concept whereby companies integrate social and environmental concerns in their business operations and interactions with their stakeholders. CSR is generally understood as being the way through which a company achieves a balance of economic, environmental and social imperatives (“Triple-Bottom-Line- Approach”), while at the same time addressing the expectations of shareholders and stakeholders. In this sense it is important to draw a distinction between CSR, which can be a strategic business management concept, and charity, sponsorships or philanthropy. Even though the latter can also make a valuable contribution to poverty reduction, will directly enhance the reputation of a company and strengthen its brand, the concept of CSR clearly goes beyond that. Promoting the uptake of CSR amongst SMEs requires approaches that fit the respective needs and capacities of these businesses, and do not adversely affect their economic viability. UNIDO based its CSR programme on the Triple Bottom Line (TBL) Approach, which has proven to be a successful tool for SMEs in the developing countries to assist them in meeting social and environmental standards without compromising their competitiveness. The TBL approach is used as a framework for measuring and reporting corporate performance against economic, social and environmental performance. It is an attempt to align private enterprises to the goal of sustainable global development...
