What is Electrolysis?

Electrolysis is a form of hair removal that few people know about, especially in an age where laser hair removal ads bombard you every day on the radio. One important distinction between Electrolysis and Laser Hair Removal is the permanence of the procedure.

Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal uses beams of light to heat the melanin within the hair to damage the follicle and cause it to temporarily stop growing hair.
With laser hair removal, they often forget to mention the part that you will need to continue to pay for maintenance treatments to stay smooth due to the fact that the laser only temporarily destroys the hair follicle. This is not the case with electrolysis; the only true form of permanent hair removal. …show more content…
Due to the tediousness of the procedure, you will most likely need return for several treatments. The positive side, however, is that when the hair is gone, it stays gone. There would be no going over the same place twice for “maintenance”.

Benefits
Benefits of permanent hair removal range from the obvious of never having to shave again to a boost in confidence. Those with curly or coarse hair may also prefer this treatment. The follicles of those who have these types of hair are tighter and are thus more likely to cause ingrown hairs after shaving and waxing. If the hair has been permanently removed, it removes any potential pains that could arise during the regrowth period; ingrown hairs will be a thing of the past.

Risks
There are risks associated with either treatment. Swelling and inflammation are likely and more severe side effects include scarring and possibly changes in your skin’s pigmentation. It is vital that you consult a certified technician to perform your procedure to guarantee your safety. Each person’s case is unique. If you have specific concerns over a sudden influx in unwanted hair, talk to your physician. While many of us have a mustache or a few chin hairs we may not like, if you suddenly feel hairier than usual there may be an underlying medical issue to

...Hair Removal Many people go for hair removal on different parts of their bodies. But there are different ways to remove hair such as waxing, treading, or laser hair removal. All the ways have both negative and positive outcomes. Waxing is one type of hair removal. It was developed by the Egyptians for smooth and hairless skin. They used sticky emulsions made of oils and honey. This is in modern day times called “sugaring” ("Get Waxing"). This procedure is done by putting wax onto the hairy area and taking a piece of cloth and putting it on top of the wax. The profession then presses down getting all the wax on the cloth and rips it off the skin pulling all the hair out with it. Waxing is positive in many ways. For example, it is done quickly and easily. The wax can be spread out all over and remove large areas of hair. Also, this can either be done at home or at the nearest salon. After waxing for a long period of time it can actually make the hair stop growing. Another positive thing is the hair doesn’t grow in until after two to three weeks depending on how fast the person’s hair grows (Torres). There are alson negative effects on waxing. It can cause redness and irritation of the skin, red bumps, and ingrown hairs. It can also cause skin infections (Bhatia). Also, it causes the skin to lose elasticity. This occurs when the skin is ripped when the wax is applied. The loss of elasticity of the skin can lead to a risk of wrinkles over time. ("hairremoval") ...

Body Hair Removal Cream

...Body Hair Removal Cream NASC 121-001 Yimeng Wang These years, people are paying more attention on their appearances. Big evidence is that women tend to be more careful with body hair. The society nowadays has a value that it’s not polite for women to show their body hair in public. As a result, women have to shave before they go out. Since there’s the demand, many ways for shaving have been invented. The most common way is to use a razor. But since it’s a little complicated, and not that convenient to use, the body hair removal cream has been invented. I have been using this cream for couple of weeks. One thing I found interesting is that there is always a bold sentence on the product said that “don’t leave the product longer than 10 minutes”. I can’t help asking why? After checking the ingredient table on the product, I found out that the hair removal creams are mainly alkaline chemicals such as sodium calcium, titanium dioxide and calcium thioglycolate. These alkaline chemicals are used to dissolve the protein structure of the hair, which can make the hair easily be wiped off. Take keratin, as an example of the proteins in hair. The alkaline chemicals can destroy the chemical structure of keratin, and in that way weaken the root of your skin, which as a result makes the hair easily to fall off. Most of the time, there is always a wired smell in hair removal creams. That smell owes to the combination of calcium thioglycolate and sodium hydroxide. When the chemicals react...

...the service to Middle Eastern clients for decades before European and American women became interested and the popularity of eyebrow threading skyrocketed. The hair removal technique is not just for the eyebrows: threading can be used to remove other facial and body hair as well. The technique is sometimes listed on salon menus as khite or fatlah, which are both Arabic words for threading. Eyebrow threading involves twisting a piece of thread, usually cotton, into a double strand. This double stranded thread is used to pick up a line of hair and then remove it, creating a very clean, precise hairline Eyebrow threading can be used to eliminate a unibrow, raise the arch of the eyebrow, or add shape and definition to the brow. Because it removes hair by the follicle, it is a reasonably long lasting hair removal technique as well. Repeat visits after three to four weeks are standard. The technique is also not terribly expensive because it is easy to do quickly and does not require costly chemical ingredients. For women who would like to pursue a more natural beauty regimen, eyebrow threading is a good choice, since it does not use harmful products. Eyebrow threading is a preferred hair removal technique for a number of reasons. Unlike tweezing or plucking, eyebrow threading removes one clean line of hair all at once, making it much quicker and easier to shape the brows. Eyebrow threading also will not harm the skin like wax and some depilatory creams can. If done...

The Futility of Addiction - Short Story

...The Futility of Addiction By Ryan Doyle The sun was beckoning over the horizon as the two best friends walked along the shoulder of what appeared to be a never ending sea of concrete stretching into the distance. One of the men had thick grimy dreadlocks swaying over his face as he walked. His white singlet was stained yellow and was barely staying on his skeletal frame. The other man’s head was shaved and covered in sores and battle scars from his many altercations in recent years. Their eyes were bloodshot and beaming; it was the morning of the fourth day since they began their most recent journey of substance abuse. They were both completely consumed in their psychotic state of mind, seemingly unaware of their surroundings, where they were going, or what their purpose was. Aside from their edgy and irrational conversation there was an eerie silence on what is normally a bustling stretch of freeway. The dreadlocked man reached into his pocket and pulled out a small glass cylindrical pipe that was stained yellow from its countless abuse. As he put it to his mouth and sparked the lighter it gleamed in the sun immediately getting the attention of his comrade by which he had shared this experience with so many times before. As the shaved head man watched him put the flame to the glass it began to glow and his eyes lit up as if his life depended on inhaling that smoke and nothing else mattered, like it was his only reason for being. As the man brushed his soiled deadlocks...

...should represent themselves and the company at all times. From the way you dress, to the way you speak, to the way you represent the company overall deals with etiquette. Workplace etiquette also deals with the physical appearance of its employees; with things such as tattoos in the workplace, hair color, following company procedures to avoid mistakes, all the way down to the protocol to handling mistakes when they are made and steps to take to avoid these same mistakes in the future. Tattoos have become a common trend amongst the up and coming generations. When deciding to get a tattoo it is always important to choose a place that can easily be covered by clothing. It can be estimated that nearly 25% of the U.S population have some sort of tattoo and almost 50% of that count will eventually want their ink memory removed. Laser tattoo removal techniques have been introduced to removed unwanted body designs, and can eliminate tattoos with minimal side effects. The process of removal via laser uses a high intensity beam to remove pigment within the tattoo. Black ink tattoos are said to be the easiest removed because the pigment absorbs all wavelengths; compared to color ink tattoos. Tattoo removal techniques must be tailored to each individual case in attempts to develop the proper procedure to avoid scarring. In the past, tattoos could be...

...not tougher; in fact, while extra melanin does have its benefits - sun protection and slowed signs of aging - it makes the skin more sensitive and vulnerable to injury. The side effects are common for people with darker skin. Most skin care is only marketed to white people (lacking tone), not even Asians, Hispanics and darker-skinned Europeans. Education of the skin is geared to white skin, and it's still not considered to be a prestigious career here in the United States as with beauty advisers in Europe. If the skin is darker it is prone to scarring and hyper-pigmentation, so we have to be more careful with skin of color. Latin, Asian, Indian, Mediterranean or African-American descents skin requires special skin care. Even acne or laser hair removal should be handled differently on dark skin. As cosmetic procedures and medispas grow in popularity, Terri Dunn, a Berkeley, Calif., dermatologist and other specialists advise their dark-skinned patients to proceed cautiously and realize their skin is at risk. Many common cosmetic procedures are geared toward lighter skin, and it's only recently, as the country's ethnic population has grown to 40%, that science is playing...

Identity

...Michayla Reeves Scott Guenthner English 1021 2/26/14 What really shapes who we are? When you look in the mirror in the morning how do you view yourself? Most people are not comfortable with their body and the way they look because society has corrupted their minds, with the perfect image Jean Kilbourne the author of “Killing Us Softly”, gives insight to how most people will view themselves based on what society has to offer. Christ Godsey the author of “Cro-Magnon Karma: One Dude and his Body Image Issues” shares how men are dealing with identity issues just as much as women. In today’s society no one thinks that men have self esteem issues, but in all reality men deal with issues just like women, in fact they are not comfortable in their own skin. Emily Prager author of “Our Barbies, Ourselves” talked about how Barbie can give a false sense of beauty and identity. As a society and as individuals it is up to us to want to be okay with ourselves, we are given our body for a reason, why change that? Most people do not have the confidence in themselves anymore, because the media has taken that away from them. Kilbourne, makes a point that “most women are not able to be themselves, and need to seek approval from the men”. Some women think that having the latest clothes and shoes will be the way to get approval. In reality though, the style of clothes and shoes that we see in the magazines and on television are not actually true to face. Majority...

Micromachining

...At this time, unfortunately, a convergence in terminology has not been forthcoming and, hence, a definition of the term Micro-Machining to be implied in the context of this assessment is in order. In principle, one may take two viewpoints:(1) The first viewpoint may define Micro-Machining as the collection of all cutting operations that are performed on micro/meso-scale components and products that fall into the 100 μm to 10,000 μm size range as shown in the figure below. The Micro-Machining regime is characterized by the requirement of producing high accuracy complex geometric features in a wide variety of materials in the above-defined size range. These requirements impose the use of considerably downsized tooling (micro-tools, e.g. endmills in the 50 to 500 micron diameter range), small undeformed chip thicknesses and feedrates (submicron to a few microns) and speed settings (50K to 200K RPM might not be uncommon) that would be considered technologically infeasible at the conventional macro-scale. As a consequence, the principal distinction between Macro and Micro-Machining operations emerges and manifests itself as the dominance of ploughing and rubbing phenomena at the cutting edge over shearing and the necessity to take micro-structural effects into consideration. (2) The second viewpoint approaches the definition of the Micro-Machining regime from the standpoint of the magnitude of the undeformed chip thickness being removed in the cutting process. It is difficult to define...
