Building Leadership Capacity

...Building leadership Capacity One of the first lessons where I have learned about the concept of the character and proper path for me in the future was a single business experience from my mother who also worked her entire career in pharmaceutical industry. This anecdote is one of the things that defined me and I still say that this story is a single most important moment where I understood how to behave in the future. My mom worked in a team of 5 people and was most experienced, team had their boss who was managing everyday activities and at one point new young women was employed and came to the team. She was unexperienced and new but very motivated and ambitious. Every member of the team except my mom find this new colleague to be nuisance and possible threat or competition so everyone was very rude to her and did not provide and support, not even their boss whose job this actually was. So my mom at that point took the role of the leader, she is took on herself to help and teach her because it was very complex job. She stayed after work every day to support and coach this new colleague, guide her because she understood that it was imperative for the new girl to become useful member of the team as soon as possible and that this will have great impact on performance of whole team. It took only one year and that new colleague became manager of whole team. So you can imagine the impact this had on my mother’s career. She was the only one from the team who was allowed to travel to...

Leadership: a Must for Nation Building

...Leadership: A Must for Nation Building By: Christine Joy Itchon Julian Philippine history books let us know that our country had undergone countless revolutions, numerous heroic deeds and several struggle for reform and development. Leaders of different generation stand for justice and sacrifice themselves for “Freedom” and “Independence” from invaders and fought for “peace”. It was the scenario during the Spanish regime in our land. But the values that our ancestors portrayed must neither be forgotten nor be buried in the depth of forgetfulness rather they must always serve as a good example especially for the youth of this era. Like them we must not be afraid to assert our rights and fight for the truth and integrity. On the other hand we must also know our responsibilities in our community as well as our duty as a citizen of humanity. My fellow youth, in behalf of the Youth in Media and Sigaw KA!bataan, I am encouraging you to exercise your right to suffrage, our decision and vote will determine what lies ahead of us. Our choice is a crucial factor that will define what kind of government leaders will lead us after the election. We are given the chance to participate in a struggle of transformation. We must not miss that opportunity or let it pass us by. Let us make a change while there is still a chance because time will come that there will be a lot room for changes but no more chances. Let us take the initiative to be different. It is our call to action. Let us be...

Organization theory and Behavior (PPG505) Submitted to Dr. Sk. Tawfique M. Haque Associate Professor Department of Political Science & Sociology And Director, MPPG Program North South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. [pic] Submitted by MD. AMDAD HOSSAN ID NO. 1412126085 MPPG 4th Batch, Department of PSS, NSU, Dhaka 1. Introduction Leadership is a highly sought-after and highly valued commodity. In the last three decades, especially after the NPM movement, leadership has attracted substantial attention as an essential factor for organizational performance in the public sector (Cristin &Ticlu, 2012). The public has become increasingly captivated by the idea of leadership. People continue to ask themselves and others what makes good leaders. As individuals, they seek more information on how to become effective leaders (Bryman, 1992). Many people believe that leadership is a way to improve their personal, social, and professional lives. Corporations seek those with leadership ability because they believe they bring special assets to their organizations and, ultimately, improve the bottom line (Parry, 2003). In addition, leadership has gained the attention of researchers worldwide. A review of the scholarly studies on leadership shows that there is a wide variety of different...

Team-Building Leadership

...Leadership SMART Goal Sherri Love Chamberlain School of Nursing Christle Shavers NR 447 Collaborative Health Care Team-building Leadership Core healthcare competence According to the Institute of Medicine, patient-centered is “health care that establishes a partnership among practitioners, patients, and their families (when appropriate) to ensure that decisions respect patients’ wants, needs, and preferences and that patients have the education and support they need to make decisions and participate in their own care” (2001). There are many attributes that can be associated with patient-centered care. First, there is the requirement for education and shared knowledge; second is the requirement for the involvement of a patient’s family and friends; and third is collaboration and management of a care team. Since patient-centered care connotes healthcare that is solely focused on the needs of the patient, there is need for nurses and other health care providers to be sensitive to the spiritual dimensions of care as well as to other non-medical attributes of human nature. The patient should be respected and his needs and preferences should form the core of the decisions made by health care providers. As a requirement, and to streamline care, there is need for information to flow from the experts to the patients and to the family and be accessible to the relevant parties. Leadership SMART goal I will learn how to handle a patient’s members...

Constructing Change: Energy Efficiency and India’s Buildings Sector

...Constructing Change: Energy Efficiency and India’s Buildings Sector   “The urban sprawl is creating unique challenges and opportunities related to natural ecosystems. As a result, policy makers need to think innovatively about a range of issues from land-resource planning to broader ecological and energy implications. The resulting challenges include reducing pollution, increasing biodiversity, managing peak energy demand and cost, heat-stress health implications, and ensuring an adequate supply of water and nutrients.” Radhika Khosla February 21, 2012 In 2008, for the first time ever, the urban population of the world outnumbered that of the rural. This visible trend has escalated over the last couple of decades; projections suggest that by the end of the twenty-first century, 80 percent of the world’s population will live in cities (which occupy 0.05 percent of the Earth’s surface). Rapid urbanization is creating vast opportunities through an unprecedented demand for the construction of buildings, which already account for more than 30 percent of India’s total electricity consumption. In line with expanding development, the country’s buildings sector is expected to increase five-fold from 2005 to 2050. India is at a unique crossroads where two-thirds of the commercial and high-rise residential structures that will exist in 2030 are yet to be built. Implementing energy efficiency in buildings that are being constructed in the next ten years thus presents a singular...

...The Sewall Belmont House has been home to the National Woman’s Party since 1929. It was in this house that women such as Alice Paul aggressively campaigned for a constitutional amendment for the right to vote. The house was originally built for Robert Sewall ca. 1800 in the new city of Washington. The architect of the house is largely unknown but evidence points to architect Leonard Harbaugh. This evidence is based on Harbaugh’s association with Robert Sewall as well as the architectural similarities to his other work. The Sewall Belmont House became a national historic landmark because of its impact during women’s suffrage in America, and although the architect is not widely celebrated for the construction of this particular house, his work can be seen much throughout Washington, DC. The Sewall Belmont House is located on Constitution Avenue Northeast, Washington, DC. The exact date of the houses construction is unknown and the original house has been added on to and altered over several time periods and by many different owners. The original structure is a brick town house built in the Georgian Style. Robert Sewall contracted the main section of the house in 1799 however, the type of brick used on the section of the house facing Second Street NE, on the west side of the structure indicates that this area was built much earlier, anywhere from 1680-1750. This area of the house is now the kitchen of the Sewall Belmont House. The way the house stands today is a rectangular...

New York City's soaring skyline wouldn't be the same without the Empire State Building. Reaching 1,250 feet, it holds the title of the seventh tallest building in the world. Built during the depression in 1930 and 1931, it cost a whopping 41 million dollars. The engineer who took on this giant project was H.G. Balcom. The design of the building changed 16 times during planning, but the 3,000 workers managed to pull it off in record timing, 1 year and 45 days, including holidays and Sundays. This skyscraper is made of 60,000 tons of steel, 200,000 cubic feet of Indiana limestone and granite, 10 million bricks, and 730 tons of aluminum and stainless steel.
