CRITIQUE ON LEADERSHIP FUNDAMENTALS Leadership fundamental is an article that explains and describes the expectations from a leader. It explains the attributes and behaviors of leaders. The article also gives a foresight to how leadership fundamentals might be improved. Furthermore, it site examples of leaders with fundamental values, they include Jesus Christ, Frederick Douglass, Paul Miller (Orangeburg mayor), Steven Jobs (Apple), Julius Ceasar. This article is written by T&D columnist Howard Hill, the main and central idea of this article is to emphasize the fact that leadership fundamentals are acquired leadership essentials. According to article, leadership fundamentals combine past, current and emerging ideas into wholes.
Personally, I think a leader is great, not because of his or her power ,but because of his or her ability to empower others, position does not make one a leader. Therefore, I think leaders must be diligent and responsive to fundamental values, skills and characters. They should possess role-model behavior and inspire those whom they lead. Leaders should work for the benefit of others and not for personal gain, they should handle themselves with their heads and handle others with their hearts, they should know the way, go the way and show the way, leaders should use their influence at the right times for the right reasons and finally leaders should take a little greater share of the blame and a little smaller share of the credit.
In my opinion, the article is good because of these three reasons:
(1).I learnt a great deal about the value and importance of leadership fundamentals. The article enlightens me on the fact that leaders need fundamental values.
(2).I like the use of the historical and contemporary leaders, such as Franklin D Roosevelt, Mary Bethune, Chiang Kia-Shek, Warren Buffett, Gen Colin Powell and others.…...

...Leadership Paper A.R.M. This paper is written to highlight my perception of leadership; it has its roots in the word of God which is the foundation for all knowledge. As King David wrote in 2 Samuel 23:2-4 “"The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, And His word was on my tongue. The God of Israel said, The Rock of Israel spoke to me, 'He who rules over men righteously, Who rules in the fear of God, Is as the light of the morning when the sun rises, A morning without clouds, When the tender grass springs out of the earth, Through sunshine after rain,” (2 Samuel 23 2-4 New American Standard Bible). As these words are like refreshing morning dew upon the mind. When a person acquires such a position, it should be an honor. He must strive to be an example in every way; I am not saying that he should be perfect, but, at least, be worthy of the position. Characteristics like honesty, integrity, faithfulness, fairness, kindness, respect of others, and compassion are some of the attributes he must possess. That does not mean that a leader cannot demonstrate strength, courage, and assertiveness. How does leadership differ from management? Leadership seems more team oriented; Leaders know how to rally people for a specific purpose. They know how to maintain team spirit at a high, see to it that the group satisfaction is realized, and keep the team cohesive and performing well. The Manager is usually someone hired by an organization and accountable and responsible to that......

...Tiffani Brandon-Brown Leadership Paper There are several approaches, or styles, to leadership that are supported by various theories. Some leaders have a specific style, whereas others implement values or feelings from several leadership theories. Successful leaders can be honest regarding their own character and not have to presume drastically unusual roles when in a leadership position. A person's characteristics, traits, and actions normally do not have to be altered when assuming a leadership position This does not mean that talented leaders do not alter their leadership authority and approach, particularly when changes are needed. Ones leadership style should be rooted in their own set of values and behaviors as well as what they become skilled at from leadership training. Many religious leaders who are committed to social justice are strong on policy and procedure but weak on performance, heavy on doctrine but light on demeanor, big on assurance but little on actions, tall on principle but short on practice. Martin Luther King Jr. was not so limited. As a leader in the civil rights struggle, King was more than just the most prominent and articulate. His leadership characteristics, traits, and actions during his campaign for peace and justice is what prompted me to think of him as a leader. King was a leader who liked to include people when making decisions, a leading characteristic of the participative leadership style. He expected and......

What is the secret to its success? From the top executives to all the way down the organizational structure, there are leaders who focus their energies on building commitment to the company and executing the company mission. As soon as one vision is accomplished, another quickly replaces it. LMD Toys is an ever-evolving company, involving everyone along the way. What is Leadership? Leadership is a key management function. “Leadership is generally defined as influencing others to work willing toward achieving objectives.” (Dessler, 2001, p.168). Leaders motivate employees to pursue a company vision. Every large organization has dozens or hundreds of leaders without titles who know just how to do that (Goddard, 2002, p.35). There are generally two......

...Leadership Paper By Antwion Demps I have chosen the ultimate leader to cover on my leader ship paper Dr. Martin Luther King JR. Dr. King was an American Baptist minister, activist, humanitarian, and leader in the African-American Civil Rights Movement. He is best known for his role in the advancement of civil rights using nonviolent civil disobedience based on his Christian beliefs. Dr. King also had the quintessential leadership traits of undeterred focus and commitment. His goal was the next substantial effort undertaken after President Abraham Lincoln’s two momentous achievements – the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863 and ensuring the passage of the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution in 1865 – toward making the phrase “all men are created equal,” as declared by Thomas Jefferson in the U.S. Declaration of Independence in 1776 true, not just in words, but in fact. No matter what Dr. King had to endure personally, including prison, overt hatred, ominous threats, and ultimately, untimely death by assassination on April 4, 1968 at the hands of James Earl Ray at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, Tennessee, or what he and the civil rights movement collectively endured, including the deadly bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963, the deadly and strong backlash of the resurgent Ku Klux Klan, and overt local and state-sanctioned law enforcement brutality, Dr. King never wavered in focus or commitment to making racial equality a reality. He......

...Leadership Paper Cassandra Eisengart Waynesburg University NUR 518 I began my journey to become a nurse in 2006 when I graduated high school and entered a nursing school in Akron, Ohio. Thankfully, upon graduation in 2010 from Robert Morris University I was able to quickly find a job that would lead me to wanting to advance my career further and get my masters degree in nursing. Without the many programs made available because of willing nurses to become educators, a lot of us would not be where we are today, myself included. Many people think about the nursing shortage when it comes to bedside nursing and nurses in hospitals. Few rarely think that in order for a person to become a nurse they actually need other nurses that are willing to teach them. As the baby boomer generation gets older, we have to keep in mind that this is also a lot of our nurses in the field right now. According to the Administration on Aging by 2030 there will be 72.1 million people in the United States age 65 and older, which will be about 19% of the population. This number is compared to just 12.4% of the population in the year 2000. Again, not only do these numbers show the advancing age of our population, it shows that a lot of the nurses that we have in the work force right now are going to be retiring within the next 10-15 years. According to the National League for Nursing, in 2007, one out of five nurse educators planned to retire within 3 to 5 years.......

Leadership is the most important competitive advantage of a company, not technology, finance, operations or anything else. Leadership formulates the company's business strategy and builds its resources, including its people, finances and operations. The leadership team is the most important asset of the company and can be its worst liability. A failed business is the result of poor performance. Leadership Qualities Reassessment Paper

...Leadership Qualities Reassessment Paper Ronald Nance BS, RN August 25, 2015 Mary Jane Sansouci The class has revealed that some of the leadership qualities that I initially thought I possessed were both correct and incorrect. An accurate analysis revealed that my personal confidence scored very high on the initial assessment and I believe that still holds true. However, the assessment also stated that I have a deficiency in providing a vision to the people I lead and I definitely still do not agree with that observation. I believe my leadership style is closely related to a transformational style that motivates and rallies people toward a common goal and belief. Vision is an attribute that I believe I utilize quite often to convey an idea and plan when providing guidance to the people seeking leadership. Personally, I aspire to become a more consistent leader when faced with challenges that I don’t want to take on. Proper education and research will provide me with the tools I need to enhance my leadership qualities. Ultimately, advancing my knowledge will create avenues within the leadership environment. I will enhance my communication style in order to effectively convey perspectives and initiatives according to task at hand. In addition, I will become an avid listener to facilitate discussions amongst my peers. The incorporation of these skills will foster a more effective leadership style. Leadership is not always something that is innate within an......

This paper will discuss a person who I consider a leader. The paper will cover why he or she is a good leader, the leadership and management theories he or she uses. In this paper I will also compare my personal leadership style to that of the chosen person I consider as a good leader. In detail I will also discuss the traits that I could develop to better my leadership skills. I will also discuss the strengths I poses that would benefit the leader I have chosen. The historical figure I have chosen as a successful leader is Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was not only a president but also a great leader who many current leaders now, look up to. There are three leadership abilities that Abraham Lincoln possessed that stand out the most (Great American History, 2013). First, was his ability to acquire trust, loyalty, and respect from his followers. Second, was his ability to inspire his followers to continue to make sacrifices despite the hardships. Third was his effectiveness for appeal to his followers (Great American History, 2013). Abraham Lincoln was willing to listen to different points of view without taking them offensively. This allowed him to listen to opinions before making his final decision. By doing so, this gained trust, loyalty, and respect from his followers (Business and Legal Resources,......

...Leadership Approach Paper Cathy M. Espy-Cook LDR/531 Organizational Leadership December 6, 2011 Bobby Bates Leadership Approach Paper Leadership is a subject that has long excited interest among people. The term connotes images of powerful, dynamic individuals who command victorious armies, direct corporate empires from atop gleaming skyscrapers, or shape the course of nations (Yukl, p. 1, 2010). Behaviors are an important approach in leadership. Working as a manager in an organization leaves much opportunity to view outstanding leadership behaviors as well as bad leadership behaviors. In observations poor leadership took a reactive approach in areas of multi-tasking the managers often pushing their work off on other supervisors he or she managed or employees that he or she knew would get the job done with no questions ask. Poor leaders need to begin with the basics in knowing what defines leadership. One common indicator of leader effectiveness is the extent to which the performance of the team or organizational unit is enhanced and the attainment of goals is facilitated. (Yukl, p. 10. 2010). Strength of the behavior approach to leadership is a wide scope of what a leader does in certain situations.
