Class: Designing and Implementing learning Bags, and their importance for a home school connection in math, science, and reading…

Bag Summary Standard 3: Family and Community Engagement sound familiar? How about engagement, collaboration, and communication indicators? Wait let’s not forget about parent/family engagement, learning expectations, curriculum support, two-way communication and finally culturally proficient communication? If you are a public school teacher especially in a system that has lacked funds then these terms, phrases, whatever you would like to call them have been eating at you for at least the past two years. The reason that they have become such a burden is not because we haven’t been providing these things to our students and their families for years upon years, it is because now we have to physically prove we are providing these things to our students and their families. Our word and reputations as being good even great teachers that are constantly visited and revisited by past students isn’t enough for the powers that be (not sure who they are) and our jobs seem to now be forever insecure. Designing and Implementing Learning Bags, and their importance for a home school connection in math, science, and reading couldn’t be any better way of physically showing our good practice as teachers to those who hold us in judgment. Seventh grade social studies covers thousands and thousands of years of history from the beginning of man right up to the beginnings of the Roman Empire. Before students start studying prehistory, Homo sapiens and the development of civilizations we start by explaining the five themes of geography and how they have played and continue to play a huge part in civilizations development, modernization, and continual communication with others. The 5 Themes of Geography Learning Bag contains materials for students and their families that will make learning the themes more personal and easier for a seventh grade student. Things like iPods, cell phones, face book, Abercrombie, Nike, coffee lattes, and gps systems are things not mentioned in our classroom textbook but using these things to explain the themes are much easier for the students to understand rather than farming, newspapers, and the Pony Express. The included in this bag in not necessarily a modern game however, Battleship is a classic game that teaches longitude/latitude, absolute and relative location and since it is kinesthetic and requires more than one person I felt it may not (although I’m sure it is out there) be an app on their phones but it may be a game they could enjoy. The next two Learning Bags, Ancient Egypt and Ancient Greece were created in similar ways. Egypt and Greece are two units of many that we cover in the seventh grade. Now when I say cover I say that lightly because as a teacher of social studies I could spend the entire school year and then some on these two units. The Learning Bags are full of enrichment readings and writings that will provide that student enriching information that we unfortunately will not have the time to completely cover in class. The student can spend extra time on gods/goddesses, pharaohs, architecture or wars. There are many students that are true history buffs and these bags can help satisfy their love of history or maybe just Egypt and Greece. This past school year I encountered more absences, students on IEPs, students in pull-out programs and a number of students who were hospitalized. As I was creating these bags I thought of those students. The Learning Bags could be used for those students who need work sent to them at home or wherever and the Learning Bags could also be tweaked to accommodate students who may be struggling learners or students with special needs. The Learning Bags are going to provide many learning opportunities for students at all levels.

A Transco Case Study

...A Transco case study Introduction Gas is the carefully controlled source of nearly half of the country’s energy needs. And most of that gas is transported safely and reliably by a British company - Transco. All day, every day, sophisticated computer-based telemetry watches, records and reports as the gas goes through meters, compressors, valves and governors on its way to more than 20 million homes, factories and businesses. Millions of cubic metres of gas every day are pushed through the system at a steady 10-15 miles an hour. Transco is the gas transportation arm of BG plc. The top management team comprises a managing director, chief operating officer, finance director, corporate affairs director and strategy & business development director. The business is divided into a number of groups, or directorates - licence to operate, legal, human resources, corporate projects, regulation and reform of gas trading arrangements. Transco is highly information-rich. Its cutting edge computer systems and technological knowhow run the gas transportation network and underpin the competitive market in domestic, industrial and commercial gas supply. This case study focuses on changes to the gas industry in recent years. Few organisations exist within a market that changes almost by the hour. Transco is able to cope with changes in demand - and this is largely because its forecasting of gas demand is accurate. It is a complicated process, taking account of all aspects of the weather and...

Ambulan Second Year Ephesians English Teacher Submitted On: March 6, 2013 Introduction This study examined and identified the academic factor that affects the RLE performance of the nursing students for school year 2012-2013. It also explored and correlated those variables to the academic factors that affect it. A questionnaire on what type of academic factors and how it affects their performance during hospital duty hours were given to the 50, 4rth nursing students as the respondents. Additionally, a photocopied grade given by their clinical instructors and coordinators were also collected to serve as our data. There was also a significant difference between the performance of the students during their Lecture class hours and during their hospital duty hours. The increasing demand of nurses all over the world greatly affects the decisions of the people. Though the news about the nurse’s jobs is getting scarce, they still take the nursing course. ...Early Childhood Environment The Nebraska Department of Education and the Iowa Department of Education (1994) describe an appropriate learning environment for the young child: "The primary learning environment provides time and opportunities for children to experience and respond creatively to their world. The learning environment is social in nature, providing a secure and stimulating climate for all children. It provides time and opportunities for children to take appropriate risks and to explore and investigate their world. Children have experiences which encourage them to interact with others, to develop interpersonal skills, and to work and learn cooperatively." (p. 3) Lombardi (1992) notes that the early childhood environment should be based on developmentally appropriate practice: "Programs for young children should not be seen as either play-oriented or academic. Rather, developmentally appropriate practice, whether in a preschool or a primary classroom, should respond to the natural curiosity of young children, reaffirm a sense of self, promote positive disppositions towards learning, and help build increasingly complex skills in the use of language, problem solving, and cooperation." Effective Grouping Practices An important organizational issue in early childhood education is the grouping of children. Traditionally, children have been grouped by grade-level designations according to age and ability. Many effective early childhood programs do not follow this...

Discovery Approach Versus Traditional Approach in Teaching Science

...Lecture Instruction in Teaching Science: Its Effect on Pupils’ Performance. II. Rationale Over the years, schools have always been concerned with how to come up with effective teaching-learning experiences for the pupils. In an attempt to attain this goal, the teacher is expected to possess a thorough knowledge of the criteria of good teaching and the mastery of the subject matter to be taught and a broad knowledge of various teaching approaches/ strategies in teaching. In teaching subject like science, a teacher should choose a strategy where pupils develop their ability to think, act and organize knowledge. One of the approaches that is strongly supported and highly recommended in teaching science is the discovery approach. This method helps pupils find solutions and answers to their own questions by way of gathering pieces of evidence but are valid and reliable and draw their own generalizations and conclusions. The pupils learn by inquiring about something; measuring, weighing, sorting out information and building their interpretation about the problem. They also employ such processes as analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating the data and information to discover concepts by themselves. With this method, pupils become more independent learners capable of learning on their own. III. Statement of the Problem What is the effect of using discovery approach versus traditional textbook and lecture instruction in teaching science on pupils’ performance...
