Collaborative learning involves a group of people working together to solve a problem, completing a task or creating a product.
One part of collaborative learning is Positive Interdependence this is students working together to accomplish a task in which success depends on participation by each person. Team members basically have to rely on one another to achieve the goal set. If one team member fails then everyone suffers the consequences. All of us experienced some kind of difficulty when working together in a group, whether by just physical proximity, common needs and goals, or simply by the need of individuals to establish interpersonal relationships. Study the concept, nature, development and importance to organisations of groups and teams may become a full-time job due to its subjectivity and difference views of it.
Another thing is Individual Accountability, where all students in a group are held accountable for doing their share of the work and for knowing their bit of the task. In one of my experiences in a group I learnt that groups can be rewarding to the individual because an individual can actually learn from other members of the group. I joined a group in which our tutor told us to build a stand up support for a sonic toy and we were told to make it from paper. We all had our ideas on how we wanted the support to stand up, but instead of pursuing personal goals we brought our ideas together and we came up with a better idea and I also learnt things I did not know before, this is another characteristic of collaborative learning. Also I found the experience challenging because I had to think beyond what I know in other to be able to contribute but at the end I left with more knowledge than I went in with.
Overall Students benefits variously from a collaborative writing course, some obtain the ultimate goal of the course, that is, to make progress
