VARK and Multiple Intelligences Inventory assessments and answers to the questions on the syllabus:
1. Based on the descriptions in the text, where do you see yourself on the Kolb Inventory of Learning Styles?
Based on the descriptions in the text of the Kolb Inventory of Learning Styles I see myself as an active experimenter. I make decisions easily and enjoy solving problems. I enjoy applying what I have learned to see if I understood the material correctly and feel that I learn quickly. I am always ready to move quickly from thinking to action and get frustrated by those who take too much time acting on what they have been taught.
This coincides with the realistic category I fall into with the Holland Personality and Career types as I see myself as a concrete and practical doer. I prefer situations that involve action rather than verbal or interpersonal tasks and take a concrete approach to problem solving rather than relying on abstract theory.

2. After reading about the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, determine which personality is most like you.
On the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator I am an ESTJ:
Extravert –I am outgoing, gregarious, and talkative and find myself too talkative at times or intimidating to those who are shy or introverted.
Sensing- I am interested in the facts and see myself as practical, factual, realistic and down-to-earth.
Thinking- I see myself as a logical, rational, and analytical person. I tend to decide things relatively impersonally and objectively and I am less swayed by feelings and emotions. In all of my dealings, I need and value fairness.
Judging- I see myself approaching the world in a planned, orderly, organized way; I try to order and control my part of it as much as possible. I make decisions relatively quickly and easily because I like to make and follow plans. I am usually punctual and tidy and appreciate those traits in others.

3. List your results on the VARK and Multiple Intelligences Inventory learning assessments:
VARK Questionnaire Results:
I prefer to have written or visual instructions over verbal instructions. I also prefer to learn through “hands-on” or instruction rather than listen to someone talk about a product or experience.
The VARK Questionnaire assessment scoring would lead me to believe that I have a single preference of learning- R (Read/Write), however I see myself as having a Visual Learning Style as well.

Multiple Intelligences Inventory results:
I fit the following categories of the Multiple Intelligences Inventory:

Logical/Mathematical Intelligence: I really enjoy math class.
I like to find out how things work. I enjoy computer and math games.
I love playing checkers and Monopoly. If something breaks and won’t work I look at the pieces and try to figure out how it works.

a. What similarities do you see among your results?
I do not see many similarities in my results. The VARK Questionnaire would lead me to believe that I learn best through reading and writing where the Multiple Intelligence Inventory would lead me to believe I prefer visual learning over reading/writing.
It is safe to say that in both assessments my preferred way of learning is not through aural or verbal means.

b. What are some of the differences you see?
I do not see how these assessments line up with each other in that in the VARK Questionnaire my strongest preference of learning was through reading and writing. Although I do agree that I prefer learning through reading and writing I also do well by looking at pieces to something and fixing it rather than reading the manual on how to repair it as listed in the Multiple Intelligences Inventory.

c. Which learning strategy is most effective for you based on these four models?
The Multiple Intelligence Inventory is most effective for me based on the four models. I have always learned best by “hands-on” experimenting. Throughout my career as an Electronics Technician I was able to repair equipment easily by following a common sense approach of looking at the circuitry and finding the problem without having to rely on a technical manual. At times this was beneficial when technical manuals were misplaced or not onboard the ship.

d. How might this knowledge make you a more effective college student?
This knowledge will make me more effective as a college student because by taking these assessments I have realized that the way I have been studying is the most effective approach for me. They have also pointed out areas I need to improve on such as being open to others input and being able to sit in class and learn through lectures without becoming bored.

...1. On the Kolb Inventory learning style I see myself to mostly be an accommodator. I very much so rely on my intuition and I tend to not read instructions unless I absolutely have to. Trial and error fits me to a T. I also think I am a diverger in my job because I supervise many people, and have learned how to think creatively with my emotions in order to relate to everyone. 2. Introversion, Sensing, Feeling, Judging (ISFJ). Some of the descriptions were right on, however the one I struggles with was Thinking versus Feeling. In the VARK learning assessment, my highest score was in A (Aural). However, I ended up being multimodal. My stepping distance was 4, and the differences were only 2. In the Multiple Intelligences Inventory assessment, my highest score was in intrapersonal intelligence. In my workplace, I definitely am not a follower, I am much more of a leader. 4. The similarities between the surveys are that I am strong minded and focused. I like to figure things out on my own and get the job done.
