Learning Styles Paper PSYC101
The VARK is a questionnaire that, when completed, will allow a person to view how they learn best, based on the answers they provided. VARK stands for visual, aural, read/write, and kinesthetic. VARK allows people to do something with the information they receive; changing the way they study or read. It gets a person to think about the process of learning.
According to my result, my learning preferences are aural (auditory) and multimodal in visual, read/write, and kinesthetic (movement.) Using these results and after reading Psychology “Why study how to study,” I have developed a study plan. This will hopefully help me achieve academic success in my Psychology 101 course.
I will listen to Mypsyclab podcasts, which involves auditory learning. I will find ways to rehearse the information both verbally and visually. This might involve describing what I learned to a friend, taking notes or drawing a mind map. By learning in more than one way, I am further pounding the knowledge in my mind. According to research, the more regions of the brain that store data about a subject, the more interconnection there is. This means I will have more opportunities to pull up all of those related bits of data from their multiple storage areas in response to a single cue. This cross-referencing of data will help me learn, rather than just memorizing it.
Since school is a full-time job. And managing your time is important. I will cut back my days, so that I might dedicate more time in doing my studies. I will spread my course work out over the week. Suppose, I decide to study Sunday through Thursday evenings, taking Fridays and Saturdays off (from studying, that is). I will also concentrate on taking better, more detailed notes. This will help me for when I take my at home exams or studying for the finals.
Now that I have a better understanding of...

...VARK Analysis Paper Grand Canyon University: NRS-429V August 11, 2013 VARK Analysis paper VARK analysis is a method through which a person identifies his favored method of learning. VARK is the acronym for Visual, Aural, Read/write, and Kinesthetic. In this VARK method there is a questionnaire which a person has to complete in order to determine his/her favored learning method. The writer of this paper has completed the questionnaire and the results showed that she prefers multimodal style of learning. The multimodal learners may be called as having a universal style as 60% of any given population has this learning style (Fleming, 2011a). This paper gives the brief description of the writers learning style, lists writers preferred learning strategies, compares writer’s preferred learning strategies to the identified strategies and evaluate any change the writer need to make in the learning habits to increase learning potentiality. Summary of the preferred Learning Style This part of the paper discuses the writer’s preferred learning style which is multimodal. The multimodal learning means that the writer has multiple choices of learning. A research shows that multimodal preferences learners dominate for all populations and it is evidently the most used set of preferences when making decisions about learning (Fleming, 2011b). The multimodal consists of all the four learning methods: visual, aural, read/write, and......

...VARK Analysis Paper Doug Walker Grand Canyon Family Centered Health Promotion NRS-429V-0501 Renita Holmes August 26, 2015 VARK Analysis Paper Neil Fleming, the designer of VARK, uses sixteen questions to determine the learning style preferences of individual students. This preference is the ways in which information is processed into our brain, and the way our brain outputs the information. The VARK approach considers visual (V), aural (A), read/write (R) and kinesthetic (K) preferences for learning. (Wright & Stokes, 2015, p. 62).The purposes of this paper are to discuss VARK’s different learning modes, this writer’s preferred learning styles and strategies, and to discuss how awareness of our personal learning preferences can influence how we teach or learn. Multimodal learning style Multimodal explains my brain preferred mode of learning styles. This style consists of all the VARK modalities which incorporates (V), (A), (R), and (K). Visual learners learn by looking at and producing pictures, graphs, tables, charts, and labeled diagrams. This mode could have been labeled as Graphic (G). Aural learners learn by listening to and participating in discussions, speeches, and question and answer sessions. Read/write learners learn by reading and writing text associated with the books, class notes, etc., and the kinesthetic learners learn by engaging in physical experiences and manipulating objects. (Ranganath & Priya, 2015, p. 196). Learning strategies The...

...the most of their learning experience it is important for them to be aware of their preferred learning style. A great tool used in determining learning style preferences is the VARK (visual, audio, read/write, kinesthetic) questionnaire. The VARK learning style assessment was developed by Neil Fleming in 1987. The questionnaire consists of 16 questions with multiple answer options. Respondents are allowed to skip a question or pick multiple answer choices if necessary (Barman, Jaafar, & Rahim, 2009). Those taking the questionnaire find the questions easy to relate to since they are based on real life situations (Rogers, 2009). Once the questionnaire is completed a score will be provided along with the corresponding learning preference and identified learning strategies. It is necessary for students to be aware of their learning style preference and to know the best way to study in order to reach their full learning potential. This paper will discuss the VARK questionnaire results of the author of this paper. After completing the VARK questionnaire, results for this author showed a multimodal learning preference. Those falling into this category have no defined preference. According to the VARK website, “If you have multiple preferences you are in the majority, as approximately 60% of any population fits that category” (http://www.vark-learn.com). This author finds using different combinations of the VARK modes to be most effective when learning and presenting......

Since the world is shrinking into a Global village so the paper tries to give the reader an overview of Global Leadership and the essential qualities required to be one and the skills I would like to develop. LEARNING STYLES Learning style is a person's way of acquiring knowledge and transforming that knowledge in learning situations. The idea of individualized learning styles originated in the 1970s but it was in 1984 that David Kolb published his learning styles model popularly known as Kolb's experiential learning theory (ELT), and Kolb's learning styles inventory (LSI).Learning, he suggests, is essentially a process that involves looping around the 4-stage cycle he developed. 1.Concrete Experience - (CE) 2.Reflective Observation -...

...Running head: VARK ANALYSIS PAPER VARK Analysis Paper Jessica Malenitza Family Centered Health Promotion Grand Canyon University VARK Analysis Paper The way that one learns is not universal, not all people learn using the same techniques, there are those that learn by simply reading the directions; these people are read/write learners, or those that need to hear how to do something; the aural learners, those that need to have a hands on approach to learning; the kinesthetic learners, the ones who can simply just watch a video or person demonstrate how to do something; the visual learners. One does not always fall into a single category. The VARK questionnaire is a tool that can be used to let you know which style of learning you fall under. The writer recently completed the questionnaire and learned that not only one style of learning works best, that actually she learns best using the hands on approach or kinesthetic style followed by the aural approach. Learning Styles The VARK tool allows a person to answer a variety of questions and based on the answers that are provided one could find the style of learning that would benefit them the most in learning in a classroom setting, or learning a new task that would be needed for a profession. The learning styles are as follows: Visual (V) The visual learning preference uses items such as maps, diagrams, and charts. This style does not include the use of videos, PowerPoints or movies however. (Vark) Some......

...VARK Analysis Paper Grand Canyon University: NRS-429V January 20, 2013 VARK Analysis Paper According to the VARK Questionnaire, kinesthetic is the type of learning style that is the strongest. There is a big difference in the scoring, where the highest score was kinesthetic at an 11 and the lowest score of 4 went to aural. Visual and read/write scored about the same where visual is a 5 and read/write is at a 6. Taking the VARK questionnaire has been able to bring to light a lot of issues and insecurities about preparing for assignments and exams. Knowing which learning style a person is and understanding the proper strategies for learning can help increase the knowledge base for that person. The learning style that has proven best for this student is more of a hands-on approach of the material that is being taught. It is similar to jumping into the deep end of the pool when first starting to learn how to swim. The online program has had better success with this method compared to a lecture and exam setting. Seeing the whole picture first and then breaking down the steps that build up to the final product helps understand and retain the information. This is similar to a study performed to see the optimal learning environment of students in the healthcare field. Kim A. Noble conducted a study and found that “nursing students were classified as more field-dependent than students in other health-related disciplines” (2008, pg 245). Which makes it a little......

Collaboration

...Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper GEN200 February 1, 2011 Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper The correct way of working effectively in a group is having the ability to appreciate and understand all of the team member’s learning style and personality type. This paper relates to communicating and collaboration methods for team members with Logical, Bodily, and Visual learning styles and with Thinker, Organizer, and Adventurer personality types. Systems for communicating and collaborating effectively with a group of people with different learning styles may differ, and here are some examples; Logical learners have the skill of reasoning the information that is learned. They have the ability to absorb information by analyzing and organizing the material. Bodily learning is when someone is hands-on in the communication and collaboration of an activity such as building, sketching, and getting their hands involved. They can provide excellent hands on support and communication skills. Visual learners have the skill to achieve their best results by utilizing visual aids. The communication for a Visual learning style is to prepare a flowchart or graphs that can show each member of the team the work needs to be completed within a week, a month, or a year. Each of these three learning styles have their own way of communicating and bringing their own way of working into a team......

...Learning Style Analysis Kathie Kaiser Grand Canyon University: NRS-429V June 23, 2013 Learning Styles Analysis Everybody has their own way of learning, how they like to receive information, process it, and file it in their brain for future use either for their jobs or for formal education. The most common styles of learning are Visual, you like to see what you are learning, Aural, you like to hear what you are learning, Read/Write you like to see on paper in words what you are learning, Kinesthetic, you like a hands on approach to learning, and Multimodal you learn best using different styles. This writer completed the VARK questionnaire to discover her learning styles. The VARK questionnaire has 13 questions and indicates the preferences in which learning is taken in. It is not a definitive measure of learning, just a tool to discover learning preferences. VARK Questionnaire with scores From the profile generated from the VARK questionnaire, this writer confirmed that she enjoys a variety of learning styles, this is known as multimodal. The VARK learning scores were Visual=5, Aural (hearing) =10, R (read/write) =12, and K (Kinesthetic) =7 for a total score of 34 (Fleming). This is very close to what the writer already knew about her preferred learning styles. Preferred learning styles According to the VARK questionnaire this writers’ strongest learning preference is read/write. When listening to a lecture, writing notes and seeing a power point......

...VARK Analysis Paper Grand Canyon University Family-Centered Health Promotion NRS-429V February 12, 2015 VARK Analysis Paper Learning styles do not dictate a person’s intelligence or their abilities to learn; instead it explains why some learner’s process information acquired differently than others. How a student retains knowledge depends on how that learner comprehends and process the information. VARK learning analysis quiz and learning style is a study to determine one’s learning style. VARK is an acronym for visual learning style, auditory learning style, reading/writing learning style and kinesthetic learning style. This paper discuses all the different learning styles but focuses on the Kinesthetic learning style and strategies that may offer an easier way to retain and enjoy any learning experience After taking the VARK learning analysis quiz it was determined that this authors learning style is more kinesthetic with a score of 14. “Kinesthetic learning is a learning style in which learning takes place by the students carrying out physical activities, rather than listening to a lecture or watching demonstrations,”("Kinesthetic learning," 2010, para. 1). Kinesthetic intelligence makes up about five percent of the population and was originally coupled with having tactile abilities or using the body to do something. According to the theory of learning styles, termed as “discovery learners”, kinesthetic learners struggle with reading or listening and have......

Vark Questionnaire

...The results from the VARK questionnaire were based off of the several questions that pertained to the various learning styles. The learning style that was assigned was Mild kinesthetic learning style. The results that were received were given in different categories for learning which are: Visual: 2; Aural: 4; Read/Write: 4; Kinesthetic: 6. The questions given were designed to interpret the combination of the several learning aids such as written directions, lists, audio, visual, diagrams, pictures, real life experiences, etc. (VARK) For people with a kinesthetic learning style, they use their past experiences and other realist things to learn material. (VARK) Some key words that were associated with this preference include senses, practical exercises, examples, cases, and trial & error. (VARK) Some of the preferred learning strategies that one can associate myself with is attending classes, attending discussions and tutorials, discussing topics with others, listening to professors who supply realistic examples, doing hands-on activities, and reviewing previous exam papers. All of these learning strategies help to create the type of student people see myself as. After doing the questionnaire and receiving the result the identified learning strategies associated with my identified learning style includes: using all your senses - sight, touch, taste, smell, and hearing, working in laboratories, going on field trips, going on field tours, using examples of principles,......

Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper

...Communication and Collaboration Strategy Paper As we know that everyone is unique and different, the same goes for the uniqueness and difference in their learning styles and the role of their personality type, when it comes to learning communicating and collaborating within a team. That is why different strategies for effective communications and collaborations need to be created for groups of individuals with different learning styles and different personality types. According to the book, Becoming a Lifelong Learner (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, 2007) three of the many different learning styles are: interpersonal, intrapersonal and verbal-linguistic. Beginning with one of the different learning styles, in specific the verbal-linguistic style, a good strategy for effective communications and collaborations with this learner, is to make sure you recognize the different characteristics of this learning style. For example students with this learning style like to write, they enjoy telling stories, they like to read, they express themselves clearly, they are good in negotiating, and like to discuss topics that interest them. Based on this, a verbal-linguistic learner will require assignments that require writing papers, and book reading, just to mention a few. On another learning style like the intrapersonal learner, some of the characteristics of this student are that he needs quiet time to think, this student is interested in self improvement, he understands his......

...Gen200/Week 2: Communication & Collaboration Strategy Paper September 7, 2010 Communication & Collaboration (among different learning styles) Intrapersonal, Verbal-Linguistic, Logical-Mathematical The Intrapersonal learner is introspective; they are self-aware and fully understands how they relate to others. The Verbal-Linguistic learner can freely communicate through language and has the ability to teach others. The Logical-Mathematical learner uses reasoning, both deductive and inductive to absorb material. They can easily discern relationships and connections. Collaboration between these learning styles seems simplistic enough. Identification of style is first and foremost, and then collaboration can be effective and free flowing. The Intrapersonal learner will be the lead collaborator…understanding how they relate to others, they will be able to serve as facilitator of the group, establishing relationships with both the Verbal-Linguistic and the Logical Mathematician. The Logical-Mathematical learner will be the one to formulate relationships and connections within the material and The Verbal-Linguistic will be the one to ensure that the group understands the finished product of the collaboration, whether it be studying for a test or a team project. Communication & Collaboration (among different personality types) The Thinker, The Organizer and The Giver Each of these learning styles, though distinct, is, in fact complementary. The......

Vark Analysis

...VARK Analysis Paper NRS-429V June 23, 2014 VARK Analysis Paper Learning styles or preferences are based on personal characteristics, preferences or individual strengths. It can be important for students to know or be familiar with their specific style of learning, so that they can develop learning strategies that can help them be successful in the material being studied. You can use tools to help ascertain the specific learning styles, like the VARK questionnaire. It provides an insight to how you “take in and give out information” (Fleming, 2014, FAQ). Also, it can help to isolate and identify strategies based on your identified learning preference. Based on the Vark questionnaire taken, my learning preference is multimodal. The multimodal preference may consist of two or more learning styles, which are comprised of Visual, Aural, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic (VARK). The results were as follows: * Visual: 8 * Aural: 3 * Read/write: 6 * Kinesthetic: 7 The results reflect a strong preference to Visual, Read/write, and Kinesthetic (VRK). The multimodal preference can prove beneficial to learning information, but can also have drawbacks. With a multimodal approach to learning one can employ different means of processing the information whether it is being presented through visual presentations, lectures, demonstrations, or reading assignments. The student can adapt or match a preference with what is being presented (Fleming, 2011). In contrast...
