Established in 1971, Liberty University is one of Virginia’s newer universities. While this Christian university has more than 13,000 students attending classes in person, the university also boasts 100,000+ online students as well. Of its more than 500 programs of study available in total, almost half are available online. Some of its programs of study include fields within cinematic arts, osteopathic medicine, law and music.

Liberty University offers associate’s, baccalaureate, master’s, doctoral and certificate programs entirely online through LUOnline. It is also one of the country’s largest online universities with more than 165 programs of study available and over 24,000 students in attendance, a third of whom attend online. Interestingly, the university’s first foray into distance learning came in 1994 with its use of TELETECHNET, a satellite service. Alongside its online offerings, the university also offers classes via video streaming, web conferencing and more.

Old Dominion University offers baccalaureate, master’s, doctoral and certificate programs online through its ODU Online platform. Bachelor’s degrees include medical technology and nuclear engineering technology. Master’s degree options include aerospace engineering and dental hygiene. Doctoral degree offerings include human resource training and instructional design. Available certifications include professional writing and global health.

Online student resources include technical support, online career coaching, an online job board and an online library.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges provides accreditation for Old Dominion University.

Bluefield College is a Christian liberal arts college that lies on the border between Virginia and West Virginia. Established in 1922 by the Baptist General Association of Virginia, the college has 5 academic schools and more than 900 students enrolled. The college has been offering online programs since 2011. Fortunately, as much as 99% of the student body typically receives financial aid through the college itself or from the government.

Bluefield College offers baccalaureate, master’s and certificate programs online. Bachelor’s degree options include criminal justice, early childhood education and nursing.
