Life Change from Fat to Fit

I am usually very open with my life and the things that I do. Whether I tell things to a close friend or to a complete stranger, I am never ashamed to tell the things I have been through throughout my life. Perhaps one of the proudest moments of my life was getting to have the physique that I currently have. Most people assume that I have always been naturally fit, but in reality, I used to be obese. I remember waking day after day, washing my face and looking at myself in the mirror, disgusted. I knew I had to change that routine. Getting in shape was something that I had wanted for as long as I could remember. I knew that I was going to achieve this goal, it was just always a matter of when.
No matter how hard I tried, I had never been able to actually get the motivation I needed to embark on my journey to a healthier life. The willpower it took for me to start on this journey was sparked by the unfortunate breakup that I went through with the girlfriend that I had at the time. It is a little sad to say, but that breakup was all it took for me to start working on my number one goal. Perhaps it was the desire to show my ex-girlfriend my true potential, or perhaps it was just a way to get her jealous, who knows? Nonetheless, I can proudly say that I accredit my transformation to her.

It was the Sunday morning after the break up that my life changed for the better. I picked up my car keys, took eighty dollars out of my bank account, and went straight to the gym like a man on a mission. I was out of my comfort zone, I knew that, but I had get over it to get to where I am now. I paid my membership and went straight to the weights. The hardest part was the beginning. For a month straight, I did not miss a single day, and it felt like hell. I was exhausted and all I wanted to do was give up, but I knew I could not do that. If I gave up then, all the hard work I had put in would have been for nothing. My muscles were being used like never before, and I even started to eat healthier. After I passed the first two months, I would crave the gym. I felt addicted to the gym because every day I would see more and more improvement. I would sometimes even pass up the opportunity to hang out with my friends in order to go to the gym on time and work out. There was nothing else on my mind except a brighter physical future.
After about six months of non-stop dedication, I looked at a “before and after” picture of myself. I was so proud of what I had achieved that I even shed a tear. The disgusting double chin I once had completely disappeared. Even the chubby chipmunk looking cheeks I once had were gone. The belly that once dangled above my belt buckle had transformed into perfectly shaped six pack abs. After those six months, my life had completely changed. I was more confident than ever before and I knew that I had changed for the better. Even my ex-girlfriend, who inspired me to start his life change, told me that I looked better than ever before. That motivated me even more to never stop staying in shape. I did not just look great, but I felt better than ever before.
I sometimes look back at old pictures of me to never forget the person who I was before. To never let the pride of who I am now consume me, to remind me of all the hard work that I put into achieving this goal and to motivate me to always work harder to be even better than what I am now. Anything is possible, you just have to find the right motivation to kick start your journey to glory.

Compare and Contrast Two Different Ways to Lose Weight

...the diet has ended. The Alli Diet is a dietary supplement that is taken three times a day, 30 minutes before a meal that follows a strict diet. The Abs Diet is an exercise program where there are different options for everyone- whether it is at the gym or at home, with or without equipment. The Alli Diet may be what’s in style, but when considering the physical effects, nutritional value, and health benefits, The Abs Diet is healthier as a whole. The effects of both The Alli Diet and The Abs Diet can be physically life changing. The Alli pill is designed to be taken with a reduced- calorie, low-fat meal containing 15-30 percent fat depending on each phase and stops the body from absorbing about 25% of the fats that is consumed. The Alli Diet is meant for short-term use only, most people start to regain weight when the pill is stopped and is not meant to have a long term effect. On the other hand, The Abs Diet is a more of a change in life style rather than a diet. The Abs Diet is designed to grow with the body as it starts to adapt to each work-out. Zinczenko (2006) stated “Over time, we begin to lose the benefits of even the best workout program,...

Turbokickboxing

...Daniels 21APR12 1 Turbo Kickboxing Just like many other countless individuals, I too have spent my whole life struggling with weight loss. Throughout my entire life, my weight constantly fluctuated back and forth. Attempting various crazy diets and rigorous short-lived work out routines, I could not get my weight under control. It wasn’t until I discovered Turbo Kickboxing back in 2010 that I started to shed the pounds for good. A one hour cardio class that infused a blend of mixed martial arts with dance, I slowly began to drop the weight again, the right way. During this three year process, not only did I lose the weight, I had fun doing it. In 2012, I’ve managed to keep the weight off, get physically and mentally fit, gain more self-confidence, and make new friends. Turbo Kickboxing is a form of exercise that promotes a fun and healthy lifestyle change by allowing individuals to control their weight, develop muscle, and improve overall mental and physical performance. One of the main reasons I had gained so much weight was due to a crazy fad diet known as “The South Beach Diet”. As I understood, its purpose was to reset and retrain your metabolism. By immediately taking away bad foods, and slowly reintroducing healthy foods, it would cause your body to lose weight. Little did I know this drastic lifestyle change would be one that I couldn’t commit to. As real life continued to happen, I began to hit rough patches causing me to become an emotional eater. Not only did......

Obesity in America

...Centers of Disease Control showed that since 1980, one third of our adult population has become overweight. America is the richest but also the fattest nation in the world, and our obese backsides are the butt of jokes in every other country (Klein 28). The 1980s were a time when Americans suddenly started going crazy over dieting, jumping onto the treadmills, and buying prepackaged non-fat foods. However, while all of that was going on, the number of obese Americans began to increase. According to a report in the Journal of the American Medical Association, 58 million people in our country weigh over 20 percent of their body’s ideal weight. The article “Fat Times” states, “If this were about tuberculosis, it would be called an epidemic” (Elmer-Dewit 58). The eating habits of society have steadily become more harmful and have started to produce gluttonous children, over-indulgent adults, and a food industry set too much on satisfying our appetites. Obesity can begin at a very young age. Many children in our society are overweight, setting themselves up for serious health problems later in life. Type 2 diabetes, high blood cholesterol, high blood pressure, and heart problems are just some of the risks. Children who are overweight also tend to feel less secure, less happy, and be stressed more than normal weight children do. They get teased, criticized, and judged. In many cases, the problem is not the child’s fault. Being overweight may run in that child’s family, or their......

Fitness

...Total health and fitness lifestyle benefits What Is Total Health and Fitness? The term total health (wellness) and fitness may be defined in a variety of ways. The most commonly used definition incorporates 5 areas- the mental, emotional, spiritual, social and physical. Although each area is important to your total health and well being, in this text we will only emphasize the physical characteristics of total health. However, since no single area can stand fully separated from the rest, we will discover how small parts of each area are inevitably intertwined with each other. When defining physical fitness, two terms are commonly used: health related fitness, and athletic performance related fitness (also referred to as motor, or skill fitness). The components of these two types are as follows: Health related fitness • Cardiovascular endurance • Muscular strength • Muscular endurance • Muscle and joint flexibility • Body composition (lean mass vs. fat mass) Athletic Performance Related Fitness (motor or skill fitness) • Cardiovascular endurance • Muscular strength • Muscular endurance • Muscle and joint flexibility • Body composition • Coordination • Speed • Agility • Power • Balance • Reaction time • Neurological efficiency Although the five components of health fitness are included in athletic fitness, the additional athletic......

Resolution to a New Me

...issues in life that is difficult to ignore, whether it is personal, physical, and social. In my case, my problem is trying to find solution to push and motivate myself to live a healthy lifestyle and exercise daily. I will conduct a research on why this is a problem and solutions to resolve this issue. Next, I will design plans and strategies applicable to health and exercise. Identifying the problem: Living a healthy lifestyle and adding daily exercise is essential to good health. I allowed myself to follow a lifestyle by eating a healthy balance diet and exercising four-to five times a week. However, shortly after I discovered that I was expecting, everything came down the tunnel. I had a difficult time with my pregnancy and it detained my ability to exercise. Though, eating right was still viable, I simply let that go along with mobility. The outcome of not eating right and bed rest enormously added seventy pounds to my small frame body. Aside from the excess weight gain, my biggest day-to-day problem is motivating myself to exercise and work out daily. Presently the baby is out, my eating habit is out of control and my motivation is lacking at its best when it comes down to exercising. Even with a handful schedule, living healthy should be a priority. I believe that this is the time finally change, reduce the body fat......
