No Matter What Life Gives, Enjoy It

...No Matter What Life Gives, Enjoy It Publication: The Times Of India Mumbai;Date: Oct 26, 2013;Section: Editorial;Page: 20 THE SPEAKING TREE No Matter What Life Gives, Enjoy It Satsang: Swami Sukhabodhananda Q: Life has become hard for me, I get hurt and upset and feel guilty that I am upset. I read books on self-help, but it is not really helping me.Inoffice, mybossscoldsme, andIfeelbad all day. Is there a way out? A: Getting upset is one thing but holding on to the upset is yet another thing. To handle upset is one thing and energy to get stuck to that upset is yet another thing. Why do you hold on to the upsets and hurts? You are upset, if you allow it; without any internal wording it will fade away in one or two minutes. But worrying about that upset is the disorder in which the mind is caught up. Why do you not let go of the upset? There are so many genuine emotions that are more meaningful and you lose sight of this. If you give attention to reliving of the upset, you will find that it has been a mechanical habit and nothing more than that. The moment you are upset, gently speak to the upset and say, “It is OK. I am upset. I will understand it and not be a victim to it.” In this process, it will pass away, with a lesson. Learn to talk to your hurt and see what happens. Also, after the gentle talks as above, good emotions that you have of the person who has hurt you will arise and you will find them to be in abundance. Give more reality and more life to that positive...

Some People Enjoy Change, and They Look Forward to New Experiences. Others Like Their Lives to Stay the Same, and They Do Not Change Their Usual Habits. Compare These Two Approaches to Life. Which Approach Do You Prefer? Explain Why.

...Some people enjoy change, and they look forward to new experiences. Others like their lives to stay the same, and they do not change their usual habits. Compare these two approaches to life. Which approach do you prefer? Explain why. Some people like to live in the same house, have the same job and habits all their lives. However, others aspire to changes and new experience. Personally, for the several reasons, which I will explain bellow, I prefer the first approach to life. First of all, changes in one's life bring many benefits. One tries new things, gains new knowledge and experience. I think it is great because without changes life becomes boring. I always try to make changes in my life. Moreover, when I feel that my life is boring I do not feel well about it. I feel like I spent those days for nothing. I did not do anything exiting, I learnt nothing interesting and I just waisted my time. Second of all, people need changes. Furthermore, we need obstacles to overcome and reach our goals. I believe that changes make us stronger, more persistent, more self-confident, and more patient. Also, I feel that all people who succeeded in life like changes and new experience because it is impossible to be the best at some field without perfecting the present knowledge and gain new experience. People catch every opportunity to learn more and change their life for the best. From the other side, people who like their lives to stay the same are very permanent. They have...

Activities I Enjoy

...As a family we enjoy interacting in certain activities. My mother enjoys sitting around the house watching lifetime movies and eating hot dogs. My father loves to go fishing every chance he gets. That’s his meditation. My brother enjoys playing football. Football is his life. He wants to be in the NFL. My sister enjoys spending time with her friends, going out and exploring certain parts of the town. My other brother enjoys shopping for clothes. He takes pride in his clothing, and to him clothes are what make a person. My aunts enjoy drinking. They feel the best way to have a good time is if you are either drunk or almost drunk. My little cousins enjoy running around outside until the soles of their shoes have fallen off. However, none of those activities are what I enjoy doing. The activity I enjoy is playing basketball. One reason I enjoy playing basketball is because it kept me out of trouble. Another reason I enjoy playing basketball because it’s a family game. Playing basketball is something I have always enjoyed doing very since I was a little girl. I have played basketball for church organizations, school, and, the most common place, the park. Basketball plays a major role in my life. It’s more than just a game to me. It’s a lifestyle. Basketball is my everything. I really don’t know who I would be if I was never introduced to the game of basketball. Basketball kept me on the right path of life. I stayed out of trouble because I stayed in the gym. I always thought when...

Hummingbird or Whale

...Doyle / Digital Response In Doyle’s article, he mentions basically two types of living styles: living fast and working busy like a hummingbird, or living slow like a tourist or a whale. After that, in the readings that we had on Friday, we simply concluded how the advanced technology affect out life style. I think the Doyle’s article and the readings can be related together. For the people who keep using their phone or laptop to communicate with the others and work, the life style should be considered as the fast speed way; and for the people who unplug their technological products frequently and enjoy the technology-free activities, the life style will be slow or natural life. It’s very hard to say which life style is better because different people has different preference. However, as for me, I would like to slow down my living speed and enjoy myself a little more. I collected six “texts” that is relative to the unplugged or technology-free living. One of the articles’ title is “When Apple and Blackberry were Just Fruits”. In the recent years, Apple products become super popular within U.S., as least toward the people around me. While walking on campus or having classes, I can see Iphone and Mac everywhere. People use those technological products for the entire day, basically from 8 a.m. when they wake up until 1 a.m. when they go to sleep. Whenever we talk about the word apple, the first thing that comes up into mind is the technological product instead of real apple...

Living Like Weasels

...Living life as we are meant to Life is much simpler that we make it.  Life is easier than we are living it.  All we need is our basic instincts to live a simple and happy life. Annie Dillard is saying in "Living Like Weasels" that things are easier when your choices are made with instinct and carried through rather than analyzed.  We all know that life through an innocent, and simple mind is a wonderful thing.  That might be why we remember childhood as an easier time.  We grow up and things get complicated and we loose that innocence or mindlessness. “The weasel lives in necessity and we live in choice, hating necessity and dying at the last ignobly in its talons.”  (Dillard 100) Choice is something that we make day in and day out.  I believe that Dillard is saying that the mindlessness of a weasel is simple to the core and it only making choices based on pure instinct rather than vanity or personal motive.  It is a simple mind of a wild animal that uses necessity to make its choices. “People take vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience-even of silence-by choice.” (Dillard 101) We choose to ignore our basic natural instincts for personal gain that we hoard for our future needs, but we don’t ever have the time to enjoy all that we have acquired. So why do we move so fast to gain as much as possible to overlook that we don’t have the time to enjoy it. Dillard is arguing that life is moving by to fast and so much is happening right before our eyes. We are so busy with our day-to-day...

Joyce Meyer: Promises For Your Everyday Life

...I like readings that would motivate, encourage, uplift, keep me grounded, and help me learn, however, I also enjoy reading romance and suspense novels. The title of something that I truly enjoy reading would be “Joyce Meyer: Promises for Your Everyday Life – a Daily Devotional”, something that I read every morning, since, it does not only keep me grounded, besides, it serves as a guide for me. Another Book that I read a while back titled “The Deep End of the Ocean”, a book, which started out as a suspense with a trailer, was captivating, keeping the reader on edge, predicting what was happening next. I also enjoy reading “The Interesting Narrative of the Life of Olaudah Equiano” in my Africa, History and Culture class a few semesters ago....

Solomon

...Putting Life in Perspective Inspiring Bible Characters Solomon As we continue our study of inspiring bible characters, we meet King Solomon. Solomon, the son of King David, is known throughout the Word of God for his wisdom. In fact, the Lord asked him what he wanted most and Solomon requested that he be given a discerning heart to govern and distinguish between right and wrong (I Kings 3: 9). Solomon, in effect, was asking God for wisdom. Scripture tells us that God granted Solomon his heart’s desire and gave him great insight and a breadth of understanding. Solomon’s wisdom was greater than any other man (I Kings 4: 29-31) . Because we know King Solomon to be the wisest mortal man on Earth, it makes sense for us to examine his life and words to gain insight for ourselves. The Bible tells us that Solomon is the author of the Book of Proverbs. Because the Book of Ecclesiastes follows a theme of wisdom and insight, King Solomon is widely believed to be the author of this Book of the Bible as well. Let us be inspired by the words of Solomon. King Solomon—the Wisest Man on Earth… Solomon puts life in perspective… • Ecclesiastes 1: 1-4, 2: 12-14 – King Solomon is saying that when you really think about it that everything is meaningless—a chasing after the wind. – Generations come and generations go… Solomon seems to be saying that our stay on Earth is temporary, therefore, everything in the world is really meaningless. – Question for Thought: What does Solomon mean...
