...Stretches The following stretches have been designed by ergonomics experts and widely prescribed to relieve the symptoms of typing-related RSI. They should be performed several times per day (during breaks for example). Arm Across Chest This will stretch out your shoulders, upper arms and upper back and improve your posture whilst you work on your computer. * Place your right arm across your chest, and your left hand just above your elbow. * Pull your arm across chest and hold for 10 seconds. * Relax and then repeat on other arm. Arm Massage This will massage your arms. By loosening these muscles your blood flow will improve and help flush out the toxins released when typing. * Roll up your sleeves. * Using your thumb and fingers, massage both sides of your arm from elbow to hand. Repeat on other arm. Backwards Lean This exercise helps stretch the back muscles. When you sit your posture tends to hunch due to gravity. By stretching your back you prevent poor sitting posture. * Stand with your feet shoulder width apart and hands on lower back. * Looking straight ahead, slowly lean back, keeping legs straight. Bend Head Forwards This stretch is useful for the upper back and neck which are common areas of tension. * Bend head forward and gently push down until you feel a comfortable stretch. * Relax, and repeat several times. Lili Marlene Conflict Paper

...“Can the wind explain why it became a storm?” was the response Lale Anderson gave when asked, in 1972, if she could explain how the ‘Lili Marlene’ became the most popular song during World War II. (The story behind the song: Lili Marlene ) The song that would rise to be the most requested song during the war by both soldiers and civilians was first written as a poem by a 22-year old German soldier during the first world war. The man’s name was Hans Leip, and he had written the poem to express the anguish of separation from his girlfriend named Lili while on sentry duty at night when a nurse named Marleen would wave to him after finishing her shift. The poem remained unheard of for many decades until it was released in 1937 in a collection of poems called ‘Die Hafenorgel.' Leip published the poems at this time because the tensions of another war were starting to stir and he had hoped to dissuade the people through reminding them of the pain and horror of war. In 1939, a German Composer, Norbert Schultze, who barely remembered the first World War came across Leip’s poems. He modified the composition and offered Lale Anderson the position to sing the recording. The song was released just before the outbreak of the second World War and sold less than 700 copies. (Mason) More importantly, the Nazi Government tried to get rid of it, suggesting the song was anti-war propaganda. Leading this accusation was Hitler’s Propaganda chief, Joseph Goebbels. He banned the song from being played...

Imperialism and the Commodification of Hawaii

...Imperialism and the Commodification of Hawaii During the age of imperialism, the United States began to emerge as a rising imperial power in the nineteenth century. As a rising power, the United States was interested in expanding their territorial claims. The islands of Hawaii became appealing as a potential expansion target when business relations were established and the sugarcane plantations were created. As business relations with the sugarcane industry became successful, the United States wanted more control over the Hawaiian Kingdom. Inevitably, the overthrow of the Hawaiian monarchy led to annexation of Hawaii as an official territory of the United States. The motives for territory expansion of the United States were driven by imperialism, which retained the similar motives of early industrialization. The economic success of early industrialization is the foundation that reflects the desire of the United States to annex Hawaii in order to protect their financial investments. As industrialization was taking place, the foundation of the modern corporation demonstrates the economic ambitions for establishing control over a rising industrial society. The United States began industrialization in the 1820s when a cotton textile industry was created. As the cotton textile industries became successful, it led to an increase in diverse and mass production of other items such as uniforms, shoes, clocks, etc. (Bentley, Ziegler & Streets-Salter, 2010). As factories were undergoing...

Kellie Schmitt's The Old Man Isn T There Anymore

...uses enticing story telling techniques and purposeful tone. Schmitt also uses imagery to further help the reader see what was going on before, after and during the funeral. Since Schmitt used all of these components one can get a good feel for what it is like at the funereal and how some of the customs differ from America. Schmitt's use of story telling is very effective because it gives us it makes the essay leap off the page. A useful story telling tool is narration. We can evidentially see the use of this technique in paragraph twenty-eight where Lili, the deceased man’s daughter, takes about why they paid extra for the cremation. Schmitt narrates “Lili whispered: “We paid extra so he’d go to the fire alone.” Apparently, there had been some problems with getting the wrong ashes if you went economy style, and had your loved one cremated alongside other people.” This is an excellent example because she not only tells us what Lili says but why she mentioned it in the first place. Another good example of a story telling technique that Schmitt uses is a flash forward in the very beginning of the story. Schmitt immediately jumps to being at a funeral in the first sentence. Schmitt says “I found myself in a Chinese funeral parlor because of a phone call I made to my cleaning lady.” (Schmitt par.1) This is effective because it immediately captures the reader attention. Most people are start stories smoothly but, since Schmitt started off the essay with this sentence she gives the reader...

Also this book report will probably be only five paragraphs as I'm trying to remember everything that happened, because the book was due back to the library. This book begins with all of the main characters in a car, on their way to an unidentified place. But before I continue, I should tell want happened at the end of the previous book. To sum it up, Lili tried to attack Frannie but Luc told her to go and came back injured. It never said what had happened to him or Lili, so that's a thing. Then Gabe came along and got them into a car and took off....
