Ocean Lakes High School
Agenda March 11-15, 2013
This school will take care of you.
Once you walk through the front doors of the school, you will check in. When you are checked in, go up the stairs to the Math Department Room and sign in. Ask the security guy at the desk to direct you. I believe its room 246 or 248? The security guy will direct you. Once in the room ask for Mrs. Hammer, and she will give you a book to sign in. **If she is not there, ask a teacher sitting at any desk (tell them you are from university instructors, and they will direct you to her desk and where to sign in for University Instructors). They are really nice people.
After signing in you will go to room 258 at 10:40, a teacher will be in the classroom. You will do this routine every day you are there.
The lesson:
The teachers preplan lessons for all of the Algebra students (meaning they have a topic already set to teach the Algebra students (which is my/your job)). I do not know the topic to teach until the day of class. Don’t freak out its not as bad as it sounds. Once you get the topic the students will work on it for two days. After you do a quick 2-5 min lesson they will go to tenmarks.com and to the topic (TOPIC: E to complete). If they still don’t understand how to do the problems have them watch the video on tenmarks, com (some students that are struggling I work one on one with them). THEY HAVE TO SCORE 70% or BETTER FOR THEM TO MOVE TO THE WORKSHEETS. Some students will lie about their grades so you have to check it off to make sure its above 70%. Once they are finished with tenmarks.com they will move on to a worksheet in the Topic: E folder which is PURPLE. That is what I use as their quiz grade. I normally help them and walk around constantly because I want them to stay focus. My advice is never sit down, I care about them passing the SOL and take everything they do

...Traditional Home Remedies Of Guyana By Dmitri Allicock “A wise man should consider that health is the greatest of human blessings, and learn how by his thought to derive benefit from his illnesses” [Hippocrates -father of Western Medicine] If you grew up in Guyana you would certainly be acquainted with some of these common over the –counter- medicines and remedies that brought relief for various afflictions and ailments. Corner stores carried a wide array of medicines found only in the Caribbean and Guyana. These were augmented with herbal medicines and treatments before a visit to the doctor was attempted. Home remedies have been around for thousands of years. Even these days about 30 per cent of prescription drugs are still synthesised from plants. In fact, the word 'drug' comes from an old Dutch word, drogge, which means 'to dry' - which is how many plant medications were prepared. However, it is always wise to remember, just because something is "naturally" growing from a tree, doesn't mean it's safe to consume. Our grandparents and older folks would swear of the healing properties of herbs, leaves, roots and seeds that cured diseases which they contracted. The fact that our ancestors survived proved that some of the many remedies used then, did work and have increasing practical applications today. Arrowroot is a common plant of Guyana. Napoleon supposedly said the reason for the British love of arrowroot was to support the commerce of their...
