Lina Sue Park’s emotive narrative A Long Walk to Water is based on Salva Dut’s real life conflicts, highlighting his tenacity through the adversity that he faces. Furthermore, it was able to capture the intolerable levels of privation that refugees experience. The eleven-year-old protagonist of the narrative, Salva, has been isolated from the rest of his family. Having to walk from his village to a refugee camp, he suffers greatly from thirst and hunger.
