This theme, however, is one of the oldest in history, and while it is not the most apparent, it does exist by William Shakespeare. The Lion King seems not to be based on a fairytale, but rather on the Tragedy of Hamlet by William Shakespeare. The basic character archetypes are concealed, and the storyline is simplified for children. But with a closer inspection of the characters themselves and the storyline, we the seasoned readers, can see just how apparent these similarities are. He is characterized as a righteous, wise, and kindhearted leader, but admirably powerful and courageous as well. Throughout the movie Simba demonstrated development as a leader. 2. Rafiki demonstrated a significant amount of Transformational Leadership when he was motivating Simba to go back and save the people of pride rock. Servant leaders strive to help their followers who have "broken spirits and have suffered from a variety of emotional hurts. It was a movie that was an essential piece to one’s childhood. If one did not watch it, then he/she did not truly live out their childhood. However, I came to realize how complex ideologies was presented in the movie, mainly, the concept of leadership. When I was younger, the only thing I thought about was how Simba should avenge his father and take out the bad guy, which was Scar in the movie. ...In The Lion King, Minkoff and Allers present a clear difference between good and evil, whereas Shakespeare’s depiction of good and evil character in Hamlet is not so clear. The characters in The Lion King are categorised almost immediately in the orientation of the film, with the image of the characters giving the audience a clear picture of who the suspected betrayer is. However in the play Hamlet it’s a lot more difficult to label the characters as good or evil, the audience cannot be certain that Claudius is evil until the climax when he reacts to the play organised by Hamlet. There is a clear distinction between good and bad in The Lion King, this makes the audience highly suspect scar’s future betrayal of Mufasa and Simba. While in Hamlet we can never be sure about which characters to trust, as it’s difficult to ascertain whether Claudius is guilty for Hamlet’s (King) death because of his overly normal personality and lack in signs of guilt and worriedness.
