In a dark room filled with stuffed animals, was me in my bed. Being half asleep, the illness bothered me. With fever ache and painful throat, I could barely open my eyes to feel myself. The back of my eyes balls was boiling, my throat as dry as the tree branches, I want to call for help. Help from my mother, father, anyone out there. I tried to sit up, my legs was too numb to move, every inch of muscles was stiffen, like I was mummified.
The sound of the cracking stairs alarmed me; I turned my head slowly towards the door, waiting for the angel to save me from this sick body. The light beam shined through the cracks of my door, my eyes so sensitive I had to look away for a moment. The door slowly opened as I looked back, a warmth and caring face appeared, she walked over to my bed, gave me a tap on the head, and sat down closely next to me. Her voice was so soft I could hear my heart beat; the feeling was very comfortable I wanted to fall asleep again. As I start closing my eyes, she held me up against her, sitting up and half lying in her arms, she put a thin straw through my dry lips, I began sipping on the straw like a baby drinking milk. I didn’t know what it was, but I just started drinking. Only realizing it to be warm and comforting, the straw was slowly taken out from my mouth, she held me down on the bed, tucked me well under the sheets. Without any notice, I fell asleep as she quietly exits the room.
I woke up from the noise around me, found myself lying on the clean grass in the middle of the playground. Children screaming happily at each other, playing like never before. I was so excited, wanting to join in the game. But wait, I almost forgot about being so sick in bed, why would I be sleeping on grass outside? I was so confused, Jason, my neighbor ran towards me and tapped me on the shoulder, “you’re it!” and ran off giggling. I stood up as soon as I could, trying to give all my strength to my legs, but I did so without difficulty. I thought to myself, I wasn’t sick at all. I started running around with the children, yelling and screaming so loud, I could feel my voice cracking. It was noon, the sun shining so bright and strong right above my head, sweat dripping down my cheeks, I flushed like a bright red tomato. I walked towards the drinking fountain to feed my thirst. I had to sit down to reduce the feeling of dizziness, my skin started to hurt like it was burning, then my head started to heat up like boiling water, then my arms and legs began to swell up like a balloon. I didn’t know what was happening, was the sun trying to eat us all, or am I sick? Suddenly everything around me started to move and turn, I was so frightened; it was like the kid from TV that was eaten by the monster for being naughty. I quickly thought about what I did for the past week that could be naughty, but couldn’t think of any, I think again, I did not study for my English dictation on Monday, and got a very bad mark, the teacher even gave me a pig sticker as a reminder for not doing well. I started to burst into tears, being sure it was the monster coming to eat me for not being a good student. I regret watching TV instead of studying for my English vocabularies. I would have made a better choice if I could choose again, I cried even harder, the hardest I have ever cried, to a point I crashed onto the ground.
When I open my eyes again, I was on my bed in my own home again. While I was still figuring out what had happened, mother pushed open my door and felt my forehead. Pulled up my curtains, pushed my windows wide open, “the medicine has done their job, you should be feeling alright now.” Still puzzled, so I was sick, and I someone did came in and fed me something to drink. Was the playground and the monster all a dream? I quickly looked over to the calendar hanging across the wall it is Sunday today. I mumbled to myself, I have to study for my dictation tomorrow, or else I’ll receive a piggy sticker on my notebook.
I hurried over and sat down at my desk, turned open the English textbook. Thinking to myself, it wasn’t a nice dream, but it was a good heads up.

The Littlest Hitler

...------------------------------------------------- The Littlest Hitler This is an essay of the story The Littles Hitler, and here it goes. Mocking is definitely the main theme in this story, as the girls keep going on at Davy, and then Lissette starts passing a paper around that people are signing under that they are on Anne Frank’s side. Guilt comes up as second theme for me, because as he steps into the bus everything, his comstume caused a lot of ruckus, even though there wasn’t a single jew in the bus, people were looking at him with grim expressions. Another third theme is love, as Dary feels sorry for the Freidlanders’ kid and wants to give them his candy, but in the end doesn’t. Davy is the kind of kid that probably doesn’t have an awful loads of friends and in the school is quite quiet. I think that he is a bit shy, because of as the teacher asks him who Hitler was, he answers fast and short, compared to Lisette which gives a long explaination of who she is dressed out as is. That often indicates of insecureness of person. After been mocked for wearing a Hitler outfit for Halloween, he immediately tells his dad, and the dad was shocked over the reaction of his classmates. They go out for buying a new costume, so he is very insecure with his old choice of outfit. Davy is anice kid that feels sorry for other, even though he dressed out as Hitler in the first place, he still feels sorry for the jews that were not allowed to go trick-or-treating, or maybe because he...

The Little Mermaid and Its Moral

...6 The little mermaid http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Little_Mermaid#cite_note-5 Upon reading the original story of Andersen’s “The Little Mermaid”, the love between the little mermaid and the prince can reflect the author’s love to someone who was going to get married at that time. In the story , little mermaid asked for the Sea Witch for exchanging her beautiful voice for her two legs to dance with the prince . From this scene, the author wants to highlight the love’s sacrifice and how love is so important to change one’s values and beliefs . The author utilizes little mermaid’s impossible yet touching love with the prince to represent human’s love ---love can be an ultimate power to make oneself to sacrifice. Yet , from the little mermaid ‘s love with the prince and how she still danced with the prince despite the suffering excruciating pain, we can interpret some messages from daily lives .Take shark fin soup as an example , while we enjoy drinking the shark fin soup during traditional Chinese weddings , we have sidestepped the painful feelings when the sharks’fins were torn off before being dumped back to the sea .Not only sharks , but elephants and tigers do love humans even we know or don’t know .Indeed , they are like the little mermaid , sacrificing their body parts to fulfill the happiness of human and this is one of my insights after reading this story. Although the love between the animals and humans isn’t as same as the love between the little mermaid...

Little Mermaid and Feminism

...Lit Theory In The Little Mermaid The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson is very different to the familiar Disney version, but something that they both have in common is the underlying idea of feminism. Both versions are mainly about women and the male characters have to depend on these women to save their lives. The main character is female and so is the villain and both, in their own way, have a lot more power than the men in the story. A main observation that supports feminism in The Little Mermaid is that there are almost no male characters in the story. There is a sea king who is the little mermaid’s father but he is only mentioned. The only male character that has even the slightest meaning to the story is the prince that the mermaid falls in love with and he’s not really developed as a character at all. He’s really just there for plot purpose, and it’s the little mermaid and the sea witch that actually have a personality. Another point of feminism is the fact that the women in the story have all the power. This is first observed in the fact that the king of the sea is mentioned but it is his mother that has an actual role and gives words of wisdom to the main character which sets off the entire plot. Then there is the little mermaid herself. First she demonstrates her power by rescuing the prince from drowning, usually it’s the prince that has to rescue the princess but here it was the other way around. Also she has all of these hopes and dreams of becoming...

How Does The Little Mermaid Relate To Feminism

...The late 1980’s film, The Little Mermaid is relevance because it appears to oppose the feminist movement in history that advocated for female advancement and empowerment within society. It is imperative that Disney’s skewed recreation of the beloved tale, The Little Mermaid be analytically criticized because it was meticulously portrayed to perpetuate anti-feminism. It is also important to analyze the use of language, images and other affecting factors and how they too contribute to sexism depictions in this film. There are various examples within the film where the female characters’ bodies and minds are demeaned and undervalued because of the imposing dominance the characters imposed upon them. One of these includes the exchange of Ariel’s voice for legs and the declaration in “Kiss the Girl” that could win over Eric without saying a word because of her good looks....

Cathedral

...Cathedral I did not care for the narrator of this story at all! The way he told the story was very irritating and made it hard for me to become interested. I had to read back over many paragraphs to comprehend what was going on. He could have put five of his short sentences that said the same thing over and over again, into one sentence. To me the narrator seemed simple minded. There was a couple moments only a sentence or two where he made me think the story was going to become easier to read, but it did not. In a way I do pity him, because his sentences consisting of only a few words and the way he would say the same sentence over, just switching the words a little made it seem to me that the narrator did not know how to speak correctly. The narrator seemed almost resentful about Robert coming to visit. He came across very rude and non-supporting of his wife, who was excited being able to see an important friend she had not seen in years. The narrator acted like being blind was a contagious and deadly disease. He did everything not to like Robert or to give him a fighting chance. Robert surprised me in the end, because after the way the narrator reacted throughout the story, in the end it was Robert who won over the narrator and gave the narrator an important life experience. Robert may be blind and could not see the narrator’s actions and facial comments, but he had to be able to feel the negative attitude the narrator had towards him. Robert just continued on,...

Study Habits

...Theme Analysis Little Women is a coming of age story of four sisters in Civil War New England.  Together they face hardships and poverty all the while trying to reach their Castles in the Air.  More than that however, Little Women is a morality tale.  Each chapter not only contains the lives and adventures of the four sisters, but lessons on how to be a good person, and how to achieve happiness in life.  These values are centered upon God, family, and love.  Though money, people, hair, and childhood dreams come and go, Marmee's wisdom about happiness never seems to falter.  The dreams of the writer, artist, and pianist in the family all fall behind the happiness they find in their respective households.  In some respects, Little Women is also a child-rearing guidebook.  When Marmee's harvesting time came, she had three happy well-rounded children and a fourth with God.  Each lesson she taught was not just told to them, but demonstrated, and enforced with kindness and with love.  She inspired her girls to be the best they could be, and did not try to change them even if they were as awkward and tomboyish as Jo.  Most importantly, she let them make the choices for their life and did not sway their decisions once the girls made them.  Little Women today remains a classic because it shows that every young person goes through trials and decision points.  Death's of loved ones, family crisis's, and the mending of broken hearts are something all young people go through and are acturatly...

Mermaids

... Mermaids Well, the million dollar question here is: Why would you pick mermaids as your topic? To be perfectly honest, I picked it because...Why not? Mermaids are something that has always been a part of my life. (As strange as that may sound) But it’s true. Mermaids are just something I’ve always been around. They are these magical beings of the sea. They are beautiful. They are amazing and everyone wants to see one. I LOVE MERMAIDS. There. I said it…I love mermaids. I remember being a little girl and watching The Little Mermaid with my older sister and thinking, ‘Wow. This is beautiful.’ This movie really was where it started. I think for a lot of people, it began with this movie. This movie showed mermaids in this light of being beautiful and being able to love. As a child, this is a pretty cool thing. It feeds the wonder and innocence of a child. But that gets killed and shot down upon the arrival of Middle School. But that’s another story. Mermaids have always been something of wonder. Though I’m an eighteen year old college bound girl, I still keep that child-like sense of innocence alive. We really don’t know what there is in the sea. Most of it is unexplored because of the dangerous environments. The ocean is something of marvel, yet instills fear in me. I’m afraid of the ocean. I don’t like to look out onto the beach and see never ending water. I could never go on a cruise. It seems like an irrational fear, but I just can’t do it. I guess I’m...

The Lil Mermaid

...The Little Mermaid is an example of how woman were seen in society. In the fairy tale, women are characterized by appearance rather than personality by both men and women. The little mermaid mentions “But if you take my voice, what shall I have left?”. In this quote, the little mermaid believes that she cannot just be herself to win the prince’s heart. The prince also looks at women the same way because of how he talks to the little mermaid. He asks her, “You’ve no fear of the sea, have you, my dumb child?”. He treats her as if she is still a small child just because she cannot speak. The tone helps shape the whole story into a feminist piece. Anderson relays the moral of the story for women in a cautionary tone to make them realize the message that is being said. The little mermaid gave up everything for the prince, and in the end, she paid a terrible price for it. Hans Christian Anderson’s writes her story The Little Mermaid in a cautionary tone with the usage of imagery and characterization to symbolize a feminist work of literature. The little mermaid’s grandmother demonstrates how appearance rules over personality. In the story, they characterized women in such a way that good looks are everything. When the little mermaid asked if the humans liked mermaids, the grandmother said, “They very thing that’s so beautiful here in the sea, your fish’s tail, seems ugly to people on the earth; they know so little about it that they have to have two clumsy supports called legs, in...

Example Of Megara Informative Speech

...waiting for prince charming. I wanted to be witty, brave, and free-spirited - I wanted to be Megara from Disney’s heroic feature film, Hercules. This always led to my friends waving their hands in my face and insisting that she is “not a princess.” So what? Not all of us need to be damsels in distress; or, as Meg puts it, “I'm a damsel, I'm in distress, I can handle this. Have a nice day.” She is Disney’s token “strong, independent woman who don’t need no man.” It just seems as if Disney spent a little extra time on Megara. She has a developed past, one that isn’t all cupcakes and rainbows, and that in itself is a lot more than most of the leading ladies can say. Her attitude packs a punch...
