Future of dairy farming

Revive of dairy industry in Pakistan introduction With the every passing day, dairy products are becoming costlier because live stock farming has not scientifically grown with the increase in population and also it did not match with the pace ofurbanization. In spite of having a large population of LIVESTOCK, the country is spending some $40 million annually on the import of formula milk only, which is the highest amount spent by any country in the world on this particular commodity. The role of livestock can be judged from the fact that about 35 million people are engaged in raising 2 to 3 cattle/buffaloes and 5 to 6 sheep’s/goats in their backyards and are deriving 20 to 25 percent income from it.

The LIVESTOCK include cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats, camels, horses, asses and mules. During the last five years, the combined population of cattle, buffalo, sheep and goat increased from 113 million,
Currently, there are some 160 varieties of infant formula milk available in the markets. While breast milk is the best a mother can give her infant in terms of a balanced and healthy diet.
Milk is the largest and the single most important commodity. Despite decades of neglect, Pakistan is the 5th largest milk producer in the world. The total value of milk produced is higher than the value of two major crops, that is, wheat and cotton. The production of quality milk is an important part of any dairy operation. It increases farmer's profitability and has many benefits.
Our project will be about to educate poor and uneducated

Livestock Issues

...Badin from Internet Badin website] LIVESTOCK MANAGEMENT AND SOCIO-ECONOMIC ASPECTS It is not easy to introduce technological innovations in livestock production at the level of the smallholder. Without adequate knowledge of taboos, customs and the sociology of village communities, the researcher has little hope of establishing methods to improve traditional systems. Subsistence farmers must first ensure their families' food supply. Only then can they think of improving the condition of their livestock. Thus, if technical innovations are to be successful, they must be introduced taking into account the following requirements: • There must be an immediate financial return from the application of the innovation • The innovation must be relatively simple and should not interfere with normal farm activities, such as planting or harvesting • The livestock venture must entail minimal risk • The innovation should not be hazardous or arduous, unless returns are exceptionally high • It should not cut across religious or other cultural activities. The introduction of technologies is discussed in detail by Dolberg (1982, 1983) on the basis of experiences with the development of new livestock technologies in India and Bangladesh. His analytical framework for a livestock development strategy is given in Table 1.6. This illustrates the complex interactions that determine whether a new technology will be adopted by the farmer. 1.6 A LIVESTOCK DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY The challenge to...

May 2007 Wildlife Biology Conservation of leopard in Ayubia National Park, Pakistan Director: Dr. Daniel H. Pletscher Large carnivores are important for biodiversity and ecosystem function, yet are very difficult to conserve because of their large home ranges and conflicts with humans. I examined human-leopard conflicts in and near Ayubia National Park, Pakistan, to provide management recommendations for the conservation of leopards. Persecution of leopards by humans has been on the rise primarily due to depredation on livestock and risk to human lives. Since 1989, 16 humans have either been killed or injured in and around Ayubia National Park while leopards faced 44 human-caused mortalities during the same period. I examined the management strategy adopted by NWFP Wildlife Department for leopard conservation, identify gaps, and suggest possible management...

Risk Management

...Discuss the risk management of natural hazards using a range of examples to support your answer. Natural hazard processes are an essential part of how Earth functions. These processes have been shaping the planet Earth for millions of years. In modern times risk management plans are a necessity because of the wide variety of natural disasters occurring all over the world. It is thought that because of the frequency and increase in severity of hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and tornadoes that the United States alone experiences an average loss of one billion dollars every week. (C. McMillan, 1998) Therefore it is obvious why a procedure of disaster preparedness, mitigation, management, and prevention is highly important as a method of dealing with such events. Risk management involves addressing any phenomena that could potentially cause havoc in a community. (C. McMillan, 1998) It is significantly different from traditional preparedness and response activities. A traditional approach attempts to address existing problems, while hazard risk management “focuses more on anticipating problems by ensuring that growth and development address the likelihood of hazards and their interaction with environmental systems.” Whereas traditional preparedness and response mechanisms often focus on individual hazard events, risk management views hazard exposure as an ongoing process and aims at reducing the vulnerability of the society and the economy to natural disasters. Such...

Urbanization

...Abstract The aim of this work is to look into urbanization trend in Pakistan and its socio-economic implications. The study would examine the effectiveness of a range of remedies applied in Pakistan, and as to how other countries are dealing with the problems arising due to urbanization. Based on analysis of the case of Pakistan and cross-country experiences, an attempt will be made to suggest remedies based on regulatory framework and various economic instruments to resolve the urbanization related issues. Urbanization is generally considered as a means and an end towards development. In Pakistan as well, the transition of a substantial portion of population to a largely urban population and the development of mega-urban regions/centers is being viewed as an engine of economic growth in the Government’s ‘New Growth Framework’. The success of this Growth Framework depends, to a large extent, on the speed with which the urban centers are transformed into dynamic, knowledge-based, productive, healthy and efficient centers. Urbanization is the process of a country becoming more industrialized from a previously agricultural dominated society; it is a cyclical process involving three essential aspects: behavior, structure and demography.
