The text showcases this to us when it reads, “Salva stubbed his bare toe on a rock, and his whole toenail came off.” “Salva would think of his family and the village and, he was somehow able to keep his wounded feet moving forward, one painful step at a time.” on page 53 and 54. This means that even though Salva was in terrible pain, he continued on because of his determination to return to his family. Determination drove Salva to survive even though he realised most his family is probably dead. The novel informs the reader of this when it mentions, “He would never see them again. He was from a village in Sudan, but was chased out from war and lost his family in his journeys. Therefore, Salva had to go through shootings, tiredness, hunger, pain, crocodiles, and monstrous tides in his journey to find his family. Like Salva, individuals survived challenging environments in A Long Walk to Water with perseverance, hope, and luck. Character Analysis: A Long Walk To Water

...Have you ever had a dry mouth or dry skin? If you have, those are the few signs of dehydration. These conditions were normal to the characters of the novel “A Long Walk to Water”, Salva Dut and Nya. In this novel, Salva and Nya are survivors of two different conflicts of both war and nature. According to Webster’s Dictionary survivor defies as,“ a person who survives, especially a person remaining alive after an event in which others have died.” but the definition I get from this book is to be determined to persevere instead of quitting. By the end of the novel, Salva leaves a note in which he states, “Stay calm when things are not going your way. You will persevere instead of quitting. Quitting will lead to less happiness in your life then...

There is only one character in this story. Her name is Ellie and she is presented as a girl who likes to party. She is already shown this way in the start of the story, where she is waking up from a wild party the day before. "Cans, some cans of lager, and them more coke arriving and - K, didn't they do some K?" This quote shows the reader, what type of girl Ellie is. There are no doubt that she loves to party, and maybe too much. I would also like to highlight an another quote "Will they really kick her off the course? Or will she have to repeat the year?" This quote indicated, that she has been taking drug and drinking a lot for a longtime now. She has probably recieved a lot of warnings from her school, so it isn't the first time that she is in this bad position. I believe that the author would like us to feel a little bad for her actually. Because she is all by herself, she doesn't have any parents to make limits for her anymore. "Her mother appears...

Roman's Legacy Essay

..."Do ut des" - a motto of pre christian Roman religion, meaning "I give so that you might give". (from the website Ten Ton Hammer proverbs and quotes.) The lasting Legacy of Rome is not Christianity despite the popular belief. Christianity would not be the Lasting Legacy of Rome because it would have spread without the Romans help. The lasting legacy of Rome is the architecture, city additions, the use of art, colosseum, technology, language, and Western democracy that the Romans invented. In the Modern world people use most of the things that the Romans invented every day. The lasting legacy of Rome would be architecture, because the arches and bridges would not be here today if the Romans had not invented them. The Romans invented the arch....

Faith In The Crucible Essay

...As Martin Luther states in his quote, faith seizes an individual’s life and allows them to see “clearly” with support in their beliefs. True faith is like water, it flows clearly through the world, but can be easily polluted. The Crucible, written by Arthur Miller, is a play that’s theme heavily revolves around and relies on faith. The fact that so many individuals, such as Abigail Williams, have their faith “polluted” and choose to lie and falsely accuse others of witchcraft shows just how easily an individual’s faith can be “polluted”. However, there were also those who had strong faith, like John Proctor and Rebecca Nurse, whom were eventually hanged...

Imagery (page 4) “By now he had stared at the window all through a late summer so hot and wet that the air both day and night felt like breathing through a dishrag, so damp it caused fresh sheets to sour under him and tiny black mushrooms to grow overnight from the limp pages of the book on his bedside table.” This sentence is so descriptive and appeals to my sense of touch and feeling it makes me feel like it’s a hot and humid summer night again. 4.)
