Lost in a Generation Gap
I have part of my company for almost seventeen years. When I started I was one of the kids in the office. I was part of a small group primarily made up of baby boomers and a few of us generation X’ers. Over the years, the work place has grown and changed. Most offices, including my own, now have three generations. We are watching the boomers prepare for their exit while the millenniums are making their presence known. Generation X, sits right in the middle. So where is the problem you ask? The problem is the drastic difference in views, ethics and even loyally.
The baby boomers are a generation of employees who worked hard and worked hard for one company. The Baby Boomers were focused on the organizations they lead, profit & loss, revenue growth, filling open positions, developing employees, and improving work cultures among myriad other issues related to running a business (Hain, 2013, para. 4). When I think of the boomers, I think of suits and ties. Long hours extending into the weekends. I think of meetings over a glass bourbon and a cigar. Woman taking notes and answering the phone. Okay, maybe I beginning to scene from Mad Men. I digress, the boomers have a sense of loyalty and dedication unmatched with any other generation.
Generation X, may not carry the same level of loyally, but they are another group of loyal workers. They are educated and ready to take on the world. Well, at least maybe the offices the boomers will soon vacate. We are a generation who has been learning the rope and absorbing all the information we can. Where is being to differ, in my opinion, is the dedication. Now, please do not misunderstand what I am saying. I am dedicated to my job, as most of us are. However, I think we do have more of a tendency to place family and family time over work more often than our predecessor might have

Under the difficult economic circumstances today, Brandon redefines the American Dream as the potential to work for an honest, secure way of life and save for the future according to the more intense spending habits of Americans.
