Based on psychological researches there is a direct relationship between age and your knowledge. As we get older, our verbal skills like knowledge of vocabularies will be improved. The Round House is collection of a thirteen year old boy journey towards finding his mother attacker. Louise Erdrich, the author of The Round House proved how Joe’s life and attitude were influenced by an accident. She wrote the story based on a thirteen year old boy’s knowledge about raping. Telling the story from Joe’s point of view is considered as an advantage because his lack of knowledge about raping activates his curiosity and left a question for him regarding what made people to do such a harsh thing to others.

He is blaming his mother and expecting her to change everything since she is the reason for the pain inside him. After the accident, Geraldine was prisoned in her loneliness, and she did not talk to Joe and Bazil about the accident. “I asked her if they found the file. She said that I should never mention a file” (145). From Joe’s perspective it should not be hard for his mother to speak out and reveal the story behind raping; Geraldine knows that if she tells the truth, she and her family will be in a danger. On the other hand if the story was told from the mother’s point of view, there would be no creativity and emotion since Geraldine knows who the attacker is and what he wants. Unlike her, Joe’s world is full of journeys and mysteries that are waiting for him. The only thing that Joe can understand is that his life is moving forward to an unknown destination due to his understanding. He becomes curious and desperate to reveal this mystery as soon as possible. During his towards knowledge he finds the source of human’s

...Justice: The Round House 11/3/14 By: Shannon Long For decades, when a Native American woman has been assaulted or raped by a man who is non-Indian, she has had little or no recourse. Under long-standing law in Indian country, reservations are sovereign nations with their own police departments and courts in charge of prosecuting crimes on tribal land. But Indian police have lacked the legal authority to arrest non-Indian men who commit acts of domestic violence against native women on reservations, and tribal courts have lacked the authority to prosecute the men. In Louise Erdrich’s novel, The Round House the main character’s father explains his understanding of “ideal justice as opposed to the best-we-can-do kinds of justice, which is what we end up with in making so many of our decisions”(306). Those who avenge killings, when the legal system can’t or won’t act, bear the consequences of having taken a human life. In the end, Joe’s parents “know everything. The sentence was to endure . . . I don’t remember that they even looked at me or I at them after the shock of that first moment when we all realized we were old” (317). When Joe hears that the judge handling his mother’s case is uncertain whether the accused man can be charged at all, the 13-year-old boy whose mother was raped pursues his own quest for justice. Narrating this gripping story years later, having himself become a public prosecutor, Joe shows how a seemingly isolated crime has many roots. The Round House is a gripping...
