{draw:frame} Affection, devotion, passion, desire, respect or loyalty. It does notreally matter which one because they are all forms of love. Some are powerful and demand attention while others are more subtle and just below the surface. In recent years, love has drifted from these subtle levels to the more noticeable ones, namely passion. In my opinion, our society downplays the real necessity for genuine affection. By this I mean that we, as a society, spend so much time focusing on only one level of love (passion) that we tend to neglect and not recognize the need for closeness and trust (friendship). Love is an all-encompassing emotion that can be powerful and demanding, but also rewarding and pleasurable. What is the one emotion that has everyone mystified? What is the one emotion that has started as many wars as it has ended? What emotion has had more plays, songs, and stories written about it than anything else? Love, that one emotion that makes enemies into friends and friends into enemies. So many legends surround this emotion, from the goddess Athena and Helen of Troy to Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. There is only one happiness in life, to love and be loved. *-(* George Sand *)*- Love is the greatest gift we can ever hope to give or receive. Love is the one thing that can overcome so many of the difficult times that we are faced with in life. Love is so powerful - it can turn frowns into smiles. It can help mend the most broken heart. It can even turn all of the ugliness in the world into the most beautiful portrait we could ever have the pleasure to behold. Love comes in so many different levels, that it doesn't appear to be the same emotion at all, but it is. There is so much to love, that it will be hard to put into this simple essay. It can tear people apart and make us do irrational things to bringing together entire nations. What can this emotion not do? It's hard to tell, but there is a lot it can. This emotion, bring tears to our eyes when something happens to our family members, friends, and pets. When we feel love ripped from us, as in death or being spurned by another, we do things we wouldn't normally do, such as go on violent rampages, or mourn to the extent that our loved ones have to watch us constantly to make sure we don't try anything like suicide. Some can move on, always remembering the lost loved one after a while, but others can not let go. These are the ones that need our love and support the most. The Magic Of Love Love is like magic And it always will be. For love still remains Life's sweet mystery!! Love works in ways That are wondrous and strange And there's nothing in life That love cannot change!! Love can transform The most common place Into beauty and splendor And sweetness and grace. Love is unselfish, Understanding and kind, For it sees with its heart And not with its mind!! Love is the answer That everyone seeks... Love is the language, That every heart speaks. Love can't be bought, It is priceless and free, Love, like pure magic, Is life's sweet mystery!! *-(* Helen Steiner Rice *)*- There are so many levels to love, that I can only express a few of them here. These are the ones we see most in life. Friendship starts this list off. Yes, it doesn't seem like it, but we do feel love towards our friends, this is what helps us get along so well, and why we miss them when we don't see our friends for a long time. It's also why we hold certain friends over others no matter what happens. Sometimes, the bond between friends deepens to the point where a stronger bond of love is made, making them family. A Friend's Love says: " If you ever need anything, I'll be there." -( Jimi Hollemans )- Love for our Family is another level of love, it is for our siblings and other family members. Even though we do things to our family members, and sometimes we don't like some of our family, that bond is still there. It is the family bond level of love that brought about the phrase, (B_lood is thicker than water)._ We will do things for our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, and children before we would even consider doing them for anyone else. Many wars have been started because of this family level, brother avenging brother or father, father protecting his wife and children, or even children protecting their parents. This simple family bond can even extend to include our pets, amazingly enough, and that is a good thing. Romantic Love is the third level of love, it is the bond that brings man and woman together. This level is among the strongest of them all. It is this level of love that has brought together kingdoms into nations in the past, and ended many great wars. It brought together families that have argued for years and years, such as in the Shakespearean play, Romeo and Juliet. Even though the two mentioned killed themselves in the end, it still brought their families together. Love is like a mustard seed; planted by God and watered by men *-(* Muda Saint Michael *)*- Love of a Mother is another level of love, it is the bond between a mother and her children. There is no stronger, nor will there ever be. This bond starts from the very first tiny fluttering of movement and never ends, even after death of the child. A mother protects her children in the name of love, and directs them through life using it as the example to follow. Well, at least it should be. Sometimes it is because of her children, a mother will work at a job she hates, just to make sure that they have everything they could ever want or need. Love of a Patriot is another kind of love, it is present between a person and his country. A patriot loves his country because he was born in it and his forefathers are buried in its land. His love can fight for his country’s glory. Love for our Pets is the sixth kind of love, it is among a person and his pet. We love our pets because they protect us, they cheer us, they sometimes make us happy and they play with us. The phrase, love makes the world go round is very true. Poems, plays, and legends can only briefly touch the true meaning of love. We can only feel what that meaning is, and express it in ways only we can understand towards another. The true question we should be asking is not, what is life, but what is love. *A co*n*fusion* about love It is presumed that sexual attraction, being instinctive, is comparatively constant over the centuries and across cultures. But let's be clear: sexual attraction is only one manifestation of love. One can be sexually aroused and still feel no love, just as a couple can be married and possess no mutual sexual appetite or love. Some people find they can fulfill sexual needs one way, and they love something else, such as a hobby or their work. When sexual desire go ahead and call it sexual need, is very strong, it certainly gets called love, but it is not. To be precise it may be best termed carnal love. Similarly, a glutton loves food, and an addict perversely loves whatever drug or activity he's hooked on. Sexual love is not necessarily anything more than an equivalent of an animal being in heat. On the other hand, if two people share a wholehearted, broad-based love for each other, then their sexual relations may be more an expression of their affection than of their instinctive drive. Love and sex are too much confused. It is frightful how many beastly rapes and molestations take place, which are sexual but devoid of love completely. Love can be found far from sex, as in a mother's love for her child, or a religious order's mystical love of doing glory to God, or of the patriot’s love towards his country and rulers. The soldier's courage to defend his family is a kind of love in action. Childhood friends who go through life together know love, though not sex, as regards each other. Have I made my point obvious? I am sure. Love’s antithesis is hate. Hate is often associated with harm or destruction, evendeath. But again, it is not equal to those. It is strongly held negative emotions, even as love is strongly held positive ones. Love is the greatest feeling, Love is like a play, Love is what I feel for you, Each and every day, Love is like a smile, Love is like a song, Love is a great emotion, That keeps us going strong -( Meghan )- The golden rule, "_Love thy neighbor as thyself_," or "_do unto others as you would have them do unto you_," helps us see that if we want people to enjoy peaceful, content existence, we must work together cooperatively, and not let our passions, of either love or hate, get us out of line. One thing I'm sure of, is the world would be a better place if all of us individuals had someone or something we loved. I feel sorry for people who are neutral about this, indifferent regarding that, and don't know what really turns them on. I almost wish there was a law against having no love in one's life. Well, that kind of thinking is too extreme. Is it possible, without love, to be healthy in a mental sense? To be balanced? Can an individual's self-esteem be proper without love? It is certainly possible for a person to be temporarily devoid of love. For example, pick up a random individual, transport him across the planet, and set him into a strange culture, where he knows no one, he knows not a word of the language. He will be in shock, and will love no one, and probably his only love then would be of longing for his familiar life. Temporarily, his shock and his sadness will be more powerful feelings than any love he feels. Strange Have you ever heard of the phrase, “_love is blind_?” Most people have. This must mean that it is a belief of many. Well, what does it mean when someone says, “love is blind?” If love is blind, one may argue to facilitate the meaning that love is eternal, regardless of one’s faults, their lies, and their affairs; that regardless of any negative outcome that love overlooks it. If love is blind it prevails all evil. However, everyone may not agree that, “love is blind.” Love is not blind - It sees more and not less, but because it sees more it is willing to see less. -( Will Moss )- Love isn't blind; it just only sees what matters. *-(* William Curry - Another common phrase is that, “_love hurts_.” Why is it that love has acquired this unpleasant metaphor? Self-experience could be an answer to this question. Most people, at some time in their lives, have been hurt by someone that they love. Is this because they have done something wrong or is it simply human instinct? Humans are full of error and often decide it is easier to give up on love than struggle through the hard times. Therefore, does love hurt or do people hurt? Many would say it is people who hurt because they fail to pursue this love that they have claimed. What is love? I don't know, but I'll do what I can to express it to my son, my wife, my family and friends, and to every single pet I have or ever will own in the best possible way that I can.

...The word "love" can have a variety of related but distinct meanings in different contexts. Often, other languages use multiple words to express some of the different concepts that English relies mainly on "love" to encapsulate; one example is the plurality of Greek words for "love." Cultural differences in conceptualizing love thus make it doubly difficult to establish any universal definition.[10] Although the nature or essence of love is a subject of frequent debate, different aspects of the word can be clarified by determining what isn't love. As a general expression of positive sentiment (a stronger form of like), love is commonly contrasted with hate (or neutral apathy); as a less sexual and more emotionally intimate form of romantic attachment, love is commonly contrasted with lust; and as an interpersonal relationship with romantic overtones, love is sometimes contrasted with friendship, although the word love is often applied to close friendships. Fraternal love (Prehispanic sculpture from 250–900 A.D., of Huastec origin). Museum of Anthropology in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico. When discussed in the abstract, love usually refers to interpersonal love, an experience felt by a person for another person. Love often involves caring for or identifying with a person or thing (cf. vulnerability and care theory of love), including oneself (cf. narcissism). In addition to cross-cultural differences in understanding love, ideas about love have also changed greatly over time...

...Love is a word with many definitions. Although, Webster defines love as a strong feeling of attraction resulting from sexual desire; enthusiasm or fondness. But to me love is not just a feeling, but it is the way that you treat the ones you care for. You should treat the ones you love so considerately through your actions they'll know you care and love them. Love in my eyes, is making that sacrifice for someone, knowing that you might regret it sooner or later. Love is how you make another person feel when you are in their presence. Many people show or express their love for someone in many and different ways. To me love is in the actions not the words. The true meaning of love like what is the meaning of life is one of the questions that will remain unsolved forever. But right now the love is a great thing that should be treasured forever and valued as a important part in your life because it will effect all relationships, romantic or not. Love has not changed at all over the course of history and this makes it the most important emotion anyone could have. Most people take love for granted and worry about it always being there when they need it the most.      Family love is another type of love we can think about. It is the love we use between our intermediate family and our extended family members. Family love is said to be blind, only to show that love can be shown to anyone no matter condition or problems one can have. Of course we all know about the good times, hard......

...Essay 1: WHATS LOVE Everybody has felt it at one time or another, be it for a person, pet, or even a non-living object. That feeling is love. Love is felt in different intensities; it may consume your whole being, or perhaps it’s just a little crush. Some people search for what seem their whole lifetimes for love, whereas others may seem to fall in and out of love on a regular basis. Of course, here we are talking about people. We can love many things, but the love between two people is unique and special. Love is rarely defined because everyone experiences it differently. What one person thinks is love, another may think is infatuation or vice versa. How does one know he or she is in love? How is it possible to distinguish between the love of romance and the love shared between friends? In order to understand love, we need to first understand the two major types of love: romantic love and friendship love. People often define romantic love based on its difference from friendship love. Would you kiss your friend? Perhaps, but it is not necessarily the things you do with your romantic partner that makes your love romantic. Romantic love is often confused with infatuation because it is so allconsuming. Romantic lovers are usually on each other’s minds. A person may make decisions based on his or her romantic partner, such as whether or not to move to a different province for a job and leave his or her partner behind. People make large life decisions based on their romantic......

...Forrest Williams Dr. Mogford Definition Essay 3/17/14 Love Love is something that could be seen in multiple points of view, it just depends on the eye of the beholder. For a few, love could be purely passionate, or just plain sexual. For others, authentic love is completely unrestricted and only truly exists between family members, or between people and an immortal. And for some people, love is effortless, ever changing, and everywhere, and is felt for family, friends, partners, and pets. Though none of these people would be considered right or wrong, there is one thing that is certain: love is the most dominant force in the entire universe. Love happens between two people in any respect, whether they’re married or it’s a mutual relationship, boyfriend and girlfriend, straight or gay, young or old, love is felt in all varieties and by everyone. Marriages and partnerships are often built when people find one another normally after they first meet; these relationships can go as deep or as simple as sharing philosophical or religious beliefs. Then there’s love between people who may find that they like the same films, books or music. Love often relies on some sort of “chemistry”, or that somewhat hairy, tingly feeling that you feel in your stomach once you think or come in contact with this special person. Hormones raging, feeling overwhelmed with passion are just some of the feelings from that inter love felt through your bodies “chemistry”. Some people feel the butterflies...

...Love is something that means very different things to different people. For some, love can be purely romantic, or even purely sexual. For others, real love is utterly unconditional and only truly exists between family members, or between people and a deity. And for some people, love is fluid, ever changing, and everywhere, and is felt for family, friends, partners, pets, and even inanimate objects, dead artists, and fictional characters. None of these people would be right or wrong, but one thing is certain: love is the most powerful force in the entire universe. Between partners of any description, be they married or cohabiting, boyfriend and girlfriend, straight or gay, young or old, love is a relationship of mutual understanding and respect. Marriages and partnerships are often built on common ground that people find when they first meet; this can be as deep as sharing religious, philosophical or religious beliefs, or as simple as finding that you love the same film, book, or band. This kind of love is often reliant on some kind of ‘chemistry’: that strange feeling that they give you in the pit of your stomach, and the feeling that nothing in the world is more important to you than enjoying the moment you’re in together. Some people feel that they experience love at first sight, where they know from the minute they set eyes on each other that they want to to be with that person, but something built on common interests and understanding must be stronger. ...Jackson Brown, Jr. that goes, “Love is when the other person’s happiness is more important that your own.” To put it differently, it is when a person suffers long for someone you find yourself loving him or her. However, in the dictionary, love was only described through the intensity of the feeling. It does not explain fully what to experience inside ‘love’. Nevertheless, it all arrives in some point. Love is vulnerable, unconditional and a decision. Love means to embrace vulnerability. Vulnerability means capable of being hurt physically or emotionally. Love involves both but often times, it is the feelings that is involve. Usually, when a person loves someone, he or she tends to do everything for him or her. Even if it means getting hurt, they will still continue. Being vulnerable means accepting everything is going to happen, anything is going to happen. It sounds scary but people become this kind of people because of love without even them knowing. It won’t be a weakness because this will be their strength, they will gain courage. They will face obstacles even if it looks like they are not going to survive. It is what makes them strong. Vulnerability makes its beauty visible. It is like a balloon, it is fragile but it looks so much better if it is seen and not hidden and if it is felt and not absent. It exhibits its beauty in its own way. That’s what love becomes when it’s vulnerable. The beauty of the relationship becomes noticeable. Love means to give everything......

Would there be a connection with who you love and how the brain works, after some research and watching a video by Helen Fisher, an Anthropologist and preeminent researcher in the field of human affection from Rutgers University I was able to better understand how the brain connects with love. Helen speaks about how she feels the brain works when you’re madly in love, the brain can tell so much about love, how it can be divided into three systems and how each systems leads to different stages of a relationship. Love starts deep in the ventral tegmental area, the hypothalamus, and the nucleus accumbens. She talks about the reward system, a system that receives messages from the brain rather it is a craving, an addiction, even an interacted with a person. It can simply be an attraction, an attachment or a sexual relationship. Within her research there is a starting point for love, and it begins with the caudate nucleus which sits deep in the center of our brains. There are different stages of love each have a particular role with the relationship progression, when looking at how a......

...A Triangular Theory of Love This article presents a triangular theory of love. According to the theory, love has three components: (a) intimacy, which encompasses the feelings of closeness, connectedness, and bondedness one experiences in loving relationships; (b) passion, which encompasses the drives that lead to romance, physical attraction, and sexual consummation; and (c) decision/commitment, which encompasses, in the short term, the decision that one loves another, and in the long term, the commitment to maintain that love. The amount of love one experiences depends on the absolute strength of these three components, and the kind of love one experiences depends on their strengths relative to each other. The three components interact with each other and with the actions that they produce and that produce them so as to form a number of different kinds of loving experiences. The triangular theory of love subsumes certain other theories and can account for a number of empirical findings in the research literature, as well as for a number of experiences with which many are familiar firsthand. It is proposed that the triangular theory provides a rather comprehensive basis for understanding many aspects of the love that underlies close relationships. What does it mean "to love" someone? Does it always mean the same thing, and if not, in what ways do loves differ from each other? Why do certain loves seem to last, whereas others disappear almost as quickly as they are......

...Love From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search For other uses, see Love (disambiguation). Archetypal lovers Romeo and Juliet portrayed by Frank Dicksee Love is an emotion of a strong affection and personal attachment.[1] Love is also a virtue representing all of human kindness, compassion, and affection —"the unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another".[2] Love may describe actions towards others or oneself based on compassion or affection.[3] In English, love refers to a variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes, ranging from pleasure ("I loved that meal") to interpersonal attraction ("I love my partner"). "Love" may refer specifically to the passionate desire and intimacy of romantic love, to the sexual love of eros, to the emotional closeness of familial love, to the platonic love that defines friendship,[4] or to the profound oneness or devotion of religious love[5], or to a concept of love that encompasses all of those feelings. This diversity of uses and meanings, combined with the complexity of the feelings involved, makes love unusually difficult to consistently define, compared to other emotional states. Love in its various forms acts as a major facilitator of interpersonal relationships and, owing to its central psychological importance, is one of the most common themes in the creative arts.[6] Love may be understood as part of the survival instinct, a function to......
