Written documents and oral presentations must include correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

PREREQUISITES:
1. You must have successfully completed (grade C or better) CSCI/CISM 1130, Computer and Its Applications.
2. You must have successfully completed (grade C or better) ENGL 1102, English Composition II.

Remember: You are responsible for insuring that you have met the prerequisite requirements. If you are on the official roll of this course, you are certifying that you have satisfactorily completed these prerequisites prior to enrolling in BUSA 2105. If, at any time, we discover that this certification is invalid, you will be withdrawn from the course; if this happens after the withdrawal deadline, you will receive a WF, even if the discovery is made at the end of the semester and after a final grade has been given.

REQUIRED TEXT: • Thill, John and Bovee, Courtland. Excellence in Business Communication, 10th or 11th edition. 2013 or 2014. New York: Pearson. • You will need an SSU email address and access to D2L (set up through PAWS).

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
You will

• Prepare and deliver effective oral presentations, including appropriate verbal and non-verbal behaviors and audio-visual aids; • Plan, write, and edit letters, reports, emails and other technically correct business documents. • Demonstrate the ability to work cooperatively in a team to complete a team project and deliver an effective group presentation; • Develop a resume that represents effectively your current status. • Demonstrate your understanding of basic interviewing skills during a mock interview.

In addition, I expect all students to participate willingly in class exercises and discussions.

Success in accomplishing these outcomes requires a C or better.

CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION: • I will use several methods to deliver instruction, including o Lecture and interactive discussions o Homework and self-study o Exercises and worksheets o Student presentations o Teamwork; partner discussions o Video and PowerPoint o D2L assignments.

DISABILITY ACCOMODATIONS AND PERSONAL COUNSELING ON CAMPUS:
Savannah State University is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to students with documented disabilities, as required under federal law. Disabilities may include learning disabilities, ADD, psychological disorders, brain injury, Autism spectrum disorders, serious chronic medical illnesses, mobility impairment, vision or hearing loss or temporary injuries. SSU also provides free, professional, confidential, individual and group counseling, homeless services and referrals. The Counseling and Disability Centers are located in King Frazier 233, 8a.m. - 5p.m. 912 358 3129. Another resource for mental health emergencies is the GA Crisis and Access Line, available 24 hours a day at 1800 715 4225.

DRESS CODE:
For presentations, speeches, and guest speaker events, you are required to adhere to the COBA professional dress code unless advised otherwise by the instructor. Attire that is unacceptable at any time includes the following: • Ill fitting clothing (too tight; ultra short skirts/dresses; sagging pants) • Pajamas or loungewear • Tank tops, spaghetti string tops, strapless tops • Bare midriff or revealing clothing • Clothing with inappropriate language • Hats (never allowed in the classroom and applies to both men and women); o Ladies, if you aren’t sure about a particular form of headgear, ask me before assuming it will be okay.

ATTENDANCE: • Participation in class is important, and students who participate willingly throughout the semester will receive up to 5 points for that participation. • Attendance in every class is expected for the entire class period. Any deviation from this rule must be approved by the instructor beforehand. Leaving early without approval will result in a loss of points. • Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each class. Late arrivals will be noted. Two unexcused late arrivals will be marked as an unexcused absence. • Up to 3 points will be subtracted from your final grade points for each unexcused absence. • Excused absences must be documented appropriately on the next day that class is attended. • If a student has an unexcused absence on a test day or a presentation day, the student will receive a 0 for that test/presentation/exercise. • Students who miss class are responsible for all homework/assignments missed and must hand in that work on the next day of attendance. Students are responsible for finding out what new work has been assigned. If students miss an exam and the absence is excused, students must arrange a date to take the exam with the instructor.

FOR SUCCESS IN THE COURSE: • Listen well during class discussions and take notes. Many students benefit from putting notes into bullet form rather than trying to write full sentences. Test material will come from the text and from classroom discussions, so it’s important to avoid distractions and avoid letting your attention wander. • Remember, reading is not studying. Studying requires a focused approach where you go back over main points, review the diagrams and charts, test yourself on definitions and concepts, and clarify any confusing statements. It is particularly helpful to outline assigned chapter readings. Doing so will help you prepare for tests, and it will help you learn the best way to outline material logically…an important skill in preparing to write reports. • If you don’t have one already, set up your e-learning account and SSU e-mail immediately. • You may benefit from using the Writing Lab for help with writing assignments. Writing assistance is available in Payne Hall, room 206. You can make appointments at www.appointment-plus.com.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES POLICY:
No electronic devices are to be seen or heard during regularly scheduled class time, quizzes, tests, or examinations – (note that this includes earpieces and ear buds). If any are observed or heard during class, the student may be excused from class. Should such devices be observed or heard during assessment periods, there will be the presumption of academic dishonesty; those found to be in violation of this policy will be subject to the consequences for academic dishonesty under the College of Business Administration Policy on Academic Dishonesty. If you wish to use a laptop of notepad to take notes ask me about it first. If I allow it, you must sit in the front of the room to do so. Any deviance from the ‘for notes only’ policy will result in no further privilege.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY POLICY:
Academic dishonesty includes copying another student’s work, handing in work done for you by another person, cheating on an exam/test/quiz, plagiarism, and untruthful information provided to me about your work. Plagiarism is not tolerated and refers to the use of someone else’s work without stating that you are doing so. Citations are required whenever you use others’ work to supplement your own. If you are uncertain about when to use citations in your document, ASK.

The minimum penalty for the student who is academically dishonest will be a grade of ZERO for the assignment; however, the instructor may well assign a grade of F for the semester. Incidents of academic dishonesty will be reported to the Office of the Dean of COBA, the COBA student Services Office (for inclusion in the student’s academic record) and to the Vice President for Student Affairs.

WRITTEN ASSIGNMENTS:
All written assignments must be typed unless the instructor indicates otherwise. Written work should be free of grammatical, spelling, and punctuation errors. Assignments that are not typed will receive a failing grade. Unless told otherwise, you will hand in written assignments during class; occasionally, I may ask you to submit assignments via D2L.

One inch from the top of each written assignment (except for business letters which have a different format), you should place your name, the due date, the name of the class, name of the assignment, and my name. All documents (letters, emails, reports, resumes, surveys, etc.) should follow the formats appropriate for each type.

Final Paper:
You will complete a paper that will be due at the end of the semester. You will also give an oral presentation of this paper. Specific instructions will be provided separately.

GRADING:
Each assignment will be given a set of points, and the points will vary a lot. For example, one quiz may be worth 25 points; another may be worth 32 points; another may be worth 100 points. At the end of the semester, the number of possible points will be added together to determine a total. The number of points you have earned will be divided by the total possible to calculate your grade for the course.

For example, if the total number of points for the semester equals 340 and you earn 290, your score would be 290 divided by 340 = .85 or 85%, a B. You will use this same method to calculate your score on any one assignment/quiz. For example, if the assignment is worth 40 points and you earn 35 points, your score would be .875 = .88 or 88%, a B.

It’s important to earn as many points as you can and to avoid any reductions from your points (because of attendance issues for example). One point can make a big difference. For example, if you earn 305 points out of a possible 340, your grade would be .897 or 90%; however, if you earn 304 points out of 340, your score would be .894 or 89%. One point can make the difference between an A and a B. (Remember, up to 5 additional points may be given for quality participation, but unexcused absences or arriving or leaving late without permission may result in negative points.)

Love Is Love

...men and women to form stable families to bear and raise children”. This is a good point of view from him, but why does loving someone of the same sex not give the right to raise a family and be just as happy? Some might say its discrimination; some might say it is unfair to humanity. Is it fair to take away the pursuit of happiness because a couple of the same sex wants the same as a couple of the opposite sex? Marriage brings on many new roles for couples like buying and taking care of a home, buying a vehicle, joining bank account, picking medical and life insurance. These rights of marriage are stripped from same-sex couples, not giving the equal right to be with the person they love and care for and what to build a life together with. Love is love, why should it be based on who you are in love with? When looking a same-sex marriage, I wonder if a person is making the choice to be with someone of the same sex, or if it is all they know and...

Love

...Love From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search For other uses, see Love (disambiguation). Archetypal lovers Romeo and Juliet portrayed by Frank Dicksee Love is an emotion of a strong affection and personal attachment.[1] Love is also a virtue representing all of human kindness, compassion, and affection —"the unselfish loyal and benevolent concern for the good of another".[2] Love may describe actions towards others or oneself based on compassion or affection.[3] In English, love refers to a variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes, ranging from pleasure ("I loved that meal") to interpersonal attraction ("I love my partner"). "Love" may refer specifically to the passionate desire and intimacy of romantic love, to the sexual love of eros, to the emotional closeness of familial love, to the platonic love that defines friendship,[4] or to the profound oneness or devotion of religious love[5], or to a concept of love that encompasses all of those feelings. This diversity of uses and meanings, combined with the complexity of the feelings involved, makes love unusually difficult to consistently define, compared to other emotional states. Love in its various forms acts as a major facilitator of interpersonal relationships and, owing to its central psychological importance, is one of the most common themes in the creative arts.[6] Love may be understood as part of the survival instinct, a function to......

...“The greatest feeling in the world is to love and to be loved.” People have different connotations in love. Some would say it is indefinable. But what is love? What is teenage love? How does love affects the behavior of teens? Love is an intense feeling of positive emotion toward, or enjoyment of, a person or thing, especially strong romantic or sexual feelings between people (Encarta Dictionaries, 2009). It is the feeling you feel when you like someone. This variety of uses and meanings combined with the intricacy of the feelings involved makes love remarkably difficult to consistently define, compared to other emotional states. Love is patient and kind and does not keep a record of your wrongs, never give up on you and never fails. Love is unconditional and everlasting. Love is the nourishment of my human soul. It is a process which evolved naturally, but with many obstacles. Those are some of the connotations of people when it comes to love. Love is always a positive feeling but oftentimes, it is abused, misused, and overused. Everyone falls in love especially teens. At their age, they tend to be more aggressive in loving someone. Friends from our childhood or adolescence are special, no matter how much time has elapsed between visits. These compelling connections are the result of shared roots during the formative years. Our childhood friends and teenage sweethearts experienced with us all the wonderful, horrible, boring, and embarrassing moments that......

Love?

...“Love is always patient and kind; love is never jealous; love is not boastful or conceited, it is never rude and never seeks its own advantage, it does not take offence or store up grievances. Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but finds its joy in the truth. It is always ready to make allowances, to trust, to hope and to endure whatever comes.” -1st Corinthians 13:4-7 What is love? A person tends to have likes, preference and desires of his or her heart that differs him or her from other human beings. Some choose to be with the company of others and some rather be alone, one’s garbage could be somebody else’s treasure, some prefers pork while others love chicken or beef, etc. There are things, people, situations that we are comfortable with which others feel otherwise. Love gives color to these choices, if we love someone or something – we accept anything that comes with it. There are times that we have to give in to something which is not what we want so someone gets the pleasure of having the desire of his or her heart. We sacrifice our own satisfaction so someone can get what he or she wants and that is love. To sacrifice in the name of love is an effort that is not expecting something in return, it gives the delight that what you have done filled a missing ingredient of your day. Sometimes I wanted to watch something on TV but my brother want something else; giving in to his choice would give me more pleasure than insisting mine and break his heart. This distinct......

Love

...In A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, he put a twist on it. It was post to be a comedy but it’s a mix of both comedy and a love story. Love is something that’s hard to explain because love is hard to find, but when you do it’s always something that tries to get in the way of you being happy because love is a tricky thing. Some people make love seem all fun and easy to be in but when they get in love themselves, they can see the heartache and plain they got to go through. In the story Egeus had went to see Thesus, duke of Athens with a complaint against his daughter Hermia. Even though he promised she was to marry Demetrius, who was in love with her but Lysander, an Athenian youth who had won her heart. Hermia had refuse to listen to her father in marry Demetrius because she was so in love with Lsyander. Her not wanting to marry Demetrius didn’t sit well with Egeus that he demanded she be punish by law for not obeying his word. Thesus then went to her in said she will be sent to nunnery or put to death for not wanting to marry him. Lysander had then made it seem that Demetrius is not telling the truth about being in love with Hermia because he was once engaged to her friend Helena. Which was a smart thing to being that up at that time because they was talking about putting her to death for not marrying him. When Thesus, Egeus, and Demetrius had left the room. Love

...Does Love Justify Actions or Is It An Excuse? Love will make you do crazy things and in Hedda Gabler we seen the total effect of this action. Was she right for being manipulative or conniving because that was what she was used to? Was it alright for her to pull the strings in everyone else’s life because she wasn’t happy with hers? Does love justify these actions with a powerful claim to make you jealous, envious, and malicious to the receiver? Hedda Gabbler used the absence of love to continue to hurt people who cared about her and loved her. Hedda was a controlling kind of person who basically cared about what other people thought of her more than what she thought of herself. The fact that she was bored with her life wasn’t any better so I guess she thought she was justified in making others life’s worst. I think this was an excuse because her father never showed her love at all when he was alive. The fact that she had his picture still watching over her she was never really fully able to show her true emotions. She would never be happy because of her past and she’s paying for it in her present. I thought this is just like so many people in the world today, even though she had a father she probably couldn’t express herself like she wanted to because it would be looked down upon. That’s why she was never happy in the house she had or the husband she married it all was a part of her status. When Love Bourg came back into the picture you could tell that they had......

Love

...ideal for giving a speech, especially a very important one. I finished my speech, hugged my brother and his new wife, and walked over to the bridal table. I typically am not the go-to-the-guy type of girl, but I was just so intrigued by this man that I just had to go against my own rules for a change. I walked up, sat in the seat next to him and asked, “Are you Snap-Chatting?” He then looked up, and I noticed that his eyes were a beautiful green-blue. He gazed at me and then replied with a simple, “Yes.” I then of course handed him my phone and added him into my contacts. “Zach. What a nice name.” I thought to myself. The rest of that night is history. Weeks went by, and we had become inseparable. I had never known love, but I was beginning to realize that love is what we had. He would pick me up at my house, and take me to school, this was when I was still in traditional high school. That was just our thing, the rides to school, though I dreaded the destination, he made my day significantly better. We went out to eat often to our favorite restaurant, Real Hacienda, and did things like go mudding in our Jeeps. We went fishing a couple times here and there, but fall fishing in Indiana is not the best. I guess what I am trying to say is, we had a blast. I got to know who he really was, and he got to know me. ...not moving forward our fuel would end and the plane would crash. No one wants their life to go to waste therefore making a choice is necessary. We often say that we have to live our life alone but that is not true, everyone needs a partner with them a friend or a soul mate. I was 26 when I realized that I need someone in my life that I can trust and ask for support. I had this girl in my mind since two years she was decent and lively. I felt life when I was around her while on the other hand was my cousin who had loved me ever since she got familiar with the word love. The entire family was longing for our wedding. Now that I took marriage seriously I had two choices, choices that mattered, that would make or break my entire life. Just as Robert frosts poem suggests I had two roads diverged in a yellow wood. I had to quickly make a decision because all three of us were aging and I had to take a decision soon. Love marriage had its own charm, I would get to spend my life with the one that my heart longed for while on the other hand I knew that my cousin would be a perfect wife...

Love

...Love is beautiful. Love is unconditional. Love is non judgemental. Love is care. Love is acceptance. Love is bliss. Love is pure. Love is serene. Love is calm. Love is silent. Love is not I, me or you. Love is us. Love is not wanting or expecting, Love is giving and accepting. Love is a strength that gives you courage to stand and act in a situation when you don’t even have the capacity to move. Love is a vibration that makes you strong. Love is a signal that binds the souls together. What I feel for my mother is Love. What I feel for my father is Love. What I feel for my sister is Love. What I feel for my brother is Love. What I feel for my grandparents is Love. But I don’t know how to show this Love. I never kissed my brother, or hugged my sister unoccassionaly or thanked my parents unreasonably or gifted my grandparents ever. I just don’t need these gestures to show my unconditional emotion to them. Do I? Dressed in a gorgeous piece came my princess and asked, “How am I looking Di?” And my “Yeah!!” Is enough for her to know that she is looking “Just Perfect”. On the Christmas Eve this year, a bundle of beautifully packed gift lied under my pillow. Holding them in my hands I rushed to my father and said, “Papa!! Santa gave me this”. And he knows that I was thanking MY PAPA SANTA. No matter how much treacherous our fights may be, and the next moment we are together playing Subway Surfers. This is my brother. Do I need to tell him SORRY explicitly? NO. Long days......
