...LYING?! FINAL ASSIGNMENT Lying is an interesting topic to discuss. It is a common wrong act that everybody does quite often in their lives regardless of good lies or bad lies. I’ve never spent times to think deeply about lying until I joined Business Ethics of my MBA program. To begin with, it may help to understand the difference between a pathological or compulsive liar and a sociopath (see, types of liars). Ultimately, making this type of distinction may not be that useful. Because in either case, the outcome is typically the same: dealing with a compulsive or pathological liar is very difficult to do. And unfortunately, sociopaths cannot be changed (see, lovefraud). A compulsive liar will resort to telling lies, regardless of the situation. Again, everyone lies from time to time (see, when lovers lie), but for a compulsive liar, telling lies is routine. It becomes a habit - a way of life. Think back to when you were a child and your parents told you that a man in a red suit named Santa Clause came down your chimney on Christmas and brought you presents if you were good. They tend to think of them as these greedy, devious, snake-like con artists that serve the rich and take advantage of the poor. Rarely will mainstream media or books try and make a case on behalf of the lawyers and argue that this stereotype is not true. Does this mean the negative image of the legal profession should be universally accepted as being accurate? Similar to the way our judicial system runs, it is necessary to properly examine both sides of this image to accurately determine if the stereotype of lawyers is true.
