How successfully does the use of symbolism in ‘Madame Tutli-Putli’ (2007) contribute towards a narrative that explores themes of a woman’s sexuality and freedom?

Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski are the professionals at showing their story through the use symbolism in their work of stop motion animation “Madame Tutli-Putli”. I will be showing the best examples I have chosen to support the themes of a woman’s sexuality and freedom in the short animated film, I will also be exploring the use of symbolism and how well it contributes towards the narrative in the short film. Now that we saw Madame Tutli-Putli’s eyes, as an audience we are more emotionally connected to her . We can feel the despair and sadness towards her life, which we can all relate to as human beings. Her eyes remind us, that at some point we have all either been or will be in her shoes. The moth approaches Madame, the moth symbolises her, just as the moth is attracted to the light and wants to escape the darkness, she desires the same. The things she feels she needs are weighing her down. The moth struggles to control its balance, just like Madame struggles to balance while her belongings are weighing her down. She then moves the moth away, we can tell that she is not giving up yet and she is not letting her obstacles get in her way. When the train goes past Madame, a strong gust follows it - causing her hat to fly off as well as her belongings. The glare between Madame and the tennis player creates an uncomfortable energy between them. The real human eyes technique tells us enough without feeling the need to say anything ; we know that the tennis player is dangerous. During the uncomfortable stare; the train goes through the tunnel. At this moment, the feel of treacherous life is pushed further to another level as we can see the tennis player’s eyes gleaming in the dark as the line of light crosses over his left eye. Then we can see Madame’s eyes, the innocence of her eyes places the watcher in her shoes and letting the watcher experience the feel of terror and insecurity of being a woman who is cautious about her
