Public Relations

...Relations? How is the changing technology environment impacting on Public Relations? Public Relations more than ever before is feeling a direct impact on this fast moving and ever evolving technology based world we live. Traditional forms of media are becoming obsolete, people are participating in more on-line discussions and organisations are much more accountable as more and more people have access to computers, phones and applications 24 hours, seven days a week. ‘In a world where e-mails are returned faster than phone calls and decisions may be made based on corporate websites, it is becoming increasingly important for businesses and business professionals to create and maintain and effective online presence.’ (Gale Cenage Learning, Madiha Bilal Kapadia, 30 November 2011) Recently Qantas was involved in a potential on-line disaster or was it a stroke of Public Relations genius that shifted the focus from the trade union discussions to a pair of first class pyjama’s? Qantas is Australia's largest airline and one of the oldest airlines in the world. Qantas was founded in Winton, on 16 November 1920 as Queensland and Northern Territory Aerial Services Limited by Paul McGuiness, Hudson Fysh, Fergus McMaster and Arthur Baird. Initially the airline operated air mail services subsidised by the Australian government, linking railheads in western Queensland. Between 1926 and 1928 Qantas built several aircraft in Longreach and made the inaugural flight of the Royal Flying Doctor...

Feminism

...Feminism by Madiha Rauf Feminism is a collective struggle towards acceptance of women existence and recognition of their contributions. Its’ basic philosophy is to challenge the social status quo by defining and supporting women rights. Historically the term of feminism is established in western society as a protest against the laws and policies that compelled women to work in a subordinate role in the 18th century. Millett characterizes feminism as a “system of political, economic and social equality between sexes” (Millett, 1970: 74). While it is defined as “politics directed at changing existing power relations between women and men in a society” by Weedon, (1987).Hooks (2000) explains feminism as “a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation, and oppression”. Feminism is diverse collections of social theories through which many focus on analyzing the social constructions of gender while other focus on gender inequality and promoting women’s rights. By describing major forms of feminism, Tuttle, Lisa (1986) says, radical feminism considers patriarchy as a root cause of women oppressions so believes on radical social changes while liberal feminism asserts the equality of men and women through legal and political reforms. Socialist feminism supports Marx’s ideas &relates the oppression of women to labor exploitation and class structure. While essential and cultural feminism believe that females value because of their special differences & inherent ability to care. Many...

Why we use distributed database? In centralized system, all queries are handled by the main server and all loads are on the server but in distributed system, a separate server for each site exists. • In centralized system If centre goes down, everything is down. So you need to have offsite redundant servers. • In centralized system there is the single point of failure that can bring an entire company down in the event of a server crash but in distributed system if one server crashed down we get information from main server. Distributed Database design: The design of a distributed computer system involves making decisions on the placement of data and programs across the sites of the computer network .in the case of distributed DBMSs,the distribution of application invoves two things: • The distribution of the distributed DBMS softwares • the distribution of thr application of...

...Information and communications technology Information and communications technology (ICT) is often used as an extended synonym for information technology (IT), but is a more specific term that stresses the role of unified communications and the integration of telecommunications (telephone lines and wireless signals), computers as well as necessary enterprise software, middleware, storage, and audio-visual systems, which enable users to access, store, transmit, and manipulate information. The term ICT is also used to refer to the convergence of audio-visual and telephone networks with computer networks through a single cabling or link system. There are large economic incentives (huge cost savings due to elimination of the telephone network) to merge the telephone network with the computer network system using a single unified system of cabling, signal distribution and management. Information and communication technology expenditure (% of GDP) in Pakistan was reported at 4.37 in 2008, according to the World Bank. Information and communications technology expenditures include computer hardware (computers, storage devices, printers, and other peripherals); computer software (operating systems, programming tools, utilities, applications, and internal software development); computer services (information technology consulting, computer and network systems integration, Web hosting, data processing services, and other services); and communications services (voice and data communications...

Dividend Policy

...Theories for Dividend Policy and Factors Affecting Dividend Payout A Review of the Literature Prepared for, 11038 Corporate Finance 307 School of Economics and Finance Curtin Business School Curtin University Miri Sarawak Campus Abstract The main objective of this literature review is to highlight the major theories for dividend policy that have been discussed and argued by many researchers over the years. It is aim to helping firms’ management to set their dividend policy and provide additional knowledge to investors. The theoretical aspect is agency theory which has negative relationship between percentages of insiders and ratio of dividend payout. The signaling theory is applicable in the real world but there is no evidence to support changes in dividend payout signaling the current and future performance of the firm. Bird-in-the-hand theory which risk adverse investors prefer receive dividend now instead of sell their shares in future for capital gain and this theory was not agreed by MM. Next is tax preference theory to study whether the level of firm leverage ratio will affect the dividend payout but it is not applicable for Indian firms. Lastly will discuss about how firm size and financial leverage can affect the firms’ dividend payout. In conclusion, since firms are free to choose whether to distribute dividend or retained their earnings, so there are not right or wrong theories and factors for dividend policy. Government regulations on firms and corporate...
