Wouldn’t it be incredible if you could gain more customers and make more money by making a single change in your marketing strategies? Advertising is a great way to gain customers, however this has to be done effectively and appropriately. The Verizon commercial, Magnificent Geese, portrays several migrating geese in hopes of finding a better place; however, they are unhappy with this better place because their cell phones were not working (Thunder Man, 2015). Based on the review of the messages, branding, and setting, Magnificent Geese should be taken off the air because it may offend the audience.
Messages in a commercial are important because they give impressions about the company as well as the product. The messages in a commercial should support the product as well as be positive and should not imply negative or controversial messages. If this happens, it gives a negative impression of the company as well as the product. As Laskey, Fox and Crask (1995) stated in their research, “a commercial’s effectiveness is likely to be influenced both by the intended message … and how well that message is conveyed” (p. 31).
