Maine Coon Cats

Abstract
Over time many myths and false ideas have been developed about the Maine Coon Cat breed. For years they were one of the top breeds in the United States and then the long haired breeds arrived and took their place. After almost being forgotten they have resurfaced as a prized and favored pet. Once being exclusive to Maine, breeders can now be found all over the United States.
Maine Coon Cats
Contrary to rumors and beliefs, the Maine Coon cat did not originate from feral cats mating with raccoons, as this is genetically impossible. While it is not known how they came to the United States, they are “one of the oldest natural breeds in North America”. (Kelley, 2010) Originating in Maine, this breed became very popular until around the early 1900’s, when the introduction of the long haired cats caused them to loose their status. After many years of being forgotten, the Maine Coon has become one of the top breeds in America and is now accepted by the CFA as a registered breed. Interested potential owners can find breeders all over the United States. (Kelley, 2010)
As stated previously, the Maine Coon is one of the largest cats in the United States. With it’s huge size and feral looks many would think it to be unfriendly in nature. While it does have many traits that make it look formidable, this cat is actually very amiable. They are basically like most cats in that they do chase the occasional bird, mouse, or chipmunk; however, they make great pets, are good with children and other animals, are very social, and are very loyal. They almost sound more like a dog. (Carrie, 2010)
So what besides size makes a Maine Coon different from all the other cats? Well, for starters their ears “are large and wide, with long tufts coming out of them, and lynx-like tufts on the tips”. (Carrie, 2010)

Brain and Lobes

...different behaviors of people. The frontal lobe, also called the cerebral cortex is located at the front of the brain right behind the forehead. This lobe is associated with reasoning, higher level cognitive, motor skills, and expressive language. According to K. L. Hartwig, the frontal lobes of the brain “are the seat of emotions and judgments related to sympathy, which is the ability to feel sorrow for someone else's suffering, and empathy, which the ability to understand another's feelings and problems.” (Hartwig, 2007) An area in the back of the frontal lobe, the motor cortex can be found. The motor cortex takes in the information from the other lobes which will then be used to carry out our body movements. The frontal cortex has three main areas precental, prefrontal, and orbital-frontal cortex. The temporal lobe is located at the bottom of the brain behind the temples on the head; this...

Toolkits for Idea Competitions: a Novel Method to Integrate Users in New Product Development

...Toolkits for idea competitions: a novel method to integrate users in new product development Frank T. Piller1,2 and Dominik Walcher1 TUM Business School, Technische Universitat Munchen, Leopoldstrasse 139, 80804 Munich, ¨ ¨ Germany. walcher@wi.tum.de 2 MIT Sloan School of Management, 50 Memorial Drive, E52-513, Cambridge, MA 02139, USA. piller@mit.edu 1 Research has shown that many innovations originate not in the manufacturer but the user domain. Internet-based toolkits for idea competitions (TIC) are a novel way for manufacturers to access innovative ideas and solutions from users. Idea competitions build on the nature of competition as a means to encourage users to participate at an open innovation process, to inspire their creativity, and to increase the quality of the submissions. When the contest ends, submissions are evaluated by an expert panel. Users whose submissions score highest receive an award from the manufacturer, which is often granted in exchange for the right to exploit the solution in its domain. Following the idea of evolutionary prototyping, we developed a TIC in cooperation with a manufacturer of sports goods. The TIC was launched as a pilot in one of the company’s markets. Submissions were evaluated using the consensual assessment technique. The evaluation of this study provides suggestions for further research, but also implications for managers willing to explore TIC in their organization. 1. Of Mice and Men Essay

...07/10/12 Karla Roman Ms karigian “of mice and men” book summary The novel opens with two men, George Milton and Lennie Small, walking to a nearby ranch where harvesting jobs are available. George, the smaller man, leads the way and makes the decisions for Lennie, a mentally handicapped giant. They stop at a stream for the evening, deciding to go to the ranch in the morning. Lennie, who loves to pet anything soft, has a dead mouse in his pocket. George takes the mouse away from Lennie and reminds him of the trouble Lennie got into in the last town they were in — he touched a girl's soft dress. George then reminds Lennie not to speak to anyone in the morning when they get to the ranch and cautions Lennie to return to this place by the river if anything bad happens at the ranch. When he has to take the dead mouse away from Lennie a second time, George chafes at the hardship of taking care of Lennie. After calming his anger, George relents and promises Lennie they will try to find him a puppy; then he tells Lennie about their dream of having a little farm where they can be their own boss and nobody can tell them what to do, where Lennie will tend their rabbits, and where they will "live off the fatta the lan'." Lennie has heard this story so often he can repeat it by heart. And George emphasizes that this dream and their relationship make them different from other guys who don't have anyone or a place of their own. They settle down and sleep for the night. The...

...Men and Animals Chapter One: Date: Saturday, September 29th, 2019 Place: Bee’s Apartment Time: 7:35 p.m Maybe I am a little like Sekai-ichi’s main character, Takano Masumune. Everyone I dated made me a little cold in the heart. The more they got serious about me, the more I became cold to them. Also, we both like cats. We both are near-sighted. We both love to read. (But I’m not an editor-in-chief like he is.) And we both are still in love with someone after high school. Okay. Maybe I am a lot like Takano. But just not only in personality. I lay on the couch with my cat lying on my stomach and was purring away. I was petting her gently as possible while I was reading the Sekai-ichi Hatuskoi manga. This volume was back on Ritsu’s point of view. The last one was on Takano’s. He was explaining everything that happens between him and Ritsu. He was really mean to Ritsu then, but I like it how he slowly began to fall for Ritsu’s loving smile. Or was it just him in general? I closed the book and remember the page I was on. It’s been so long since I read the series. I took off my glasses and pinch the bridge of my nose then rubbing my eyes. I have been working my ass off since I graduated from the Early College High School to become an E4 in the Air Force. I was seventeen years old when I enlisted, but I really couldn’t do anything while I was still in high school working on college courses. But I did work on getting at least a 4.0 in my GPA or whatever it was I...
