51 billion dollars, the amount spent annually by the U.S. in the ongoing war on drugs, a colossal failure that has actually caused additional problems. Many different solutions have been proposed and tested, yet few have been successful in cutting down drug usage. After research, I have discovered that there is an alternative that will save millions a year, reduce drug related crimes, and lower the levels of drug related deaths. This alternative involves not only allowing addicts to use their drugs in peace, but also to give them a safe, sanitary place to do so, having trained medical staff to supervise incase of overdoses, and even giving addicts the drugs they need.
In 1986 the first Drug Consumption Room (DCR) was opened in Berne, Switzerland. Drug Consumption Rooms are governed centers where drug addicts can use drugs in safer and more sanitary conditions with safety measures incase of overdose or other reactions. In the time since the first DCR was opened, over 90 other facilities have been implemented into Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Luxembourg, Norway, Canada, Denmark, and Australia. These facilities are combined with access to other mental, social, and health treatments, to promote a non-traditional recovery program that works to wean addicts off the drugs slowly while providing mental support for them. It is reported that 26 people have dropped out of treatment at the clinics, the majority of which are moving on to treatment without heroin such as methadone or to quit completely.
According to the Danish National Board of Health, this treatment has; reduced the number of days spent on crimes to a third, increased the number of addicts who find permanent housing by 30%, and Reduced side abuse so that addicts drink 50 percent less alcohol, and the abuse of benzodiazepines such as Valium has been reduced to a third. Volunteeing Students Makes for Better People

...Volunteering students makes for better people Paula Kehoe College communication skills – CMM110-32 Professor Rhett Andrew Wednesday, October, 3, 2012   Volunteering students makes for better people Outline Thesis Forcing students to volunteer teaches them to be overall better people. Controlling Ideas 1. Communication skills. 2. Teaches the student responsibility. 3. It can build character: raise self-esteem and personal development. Body paragraph: Volunteering for a high school student can be stressful at times. It can also do a lot of good though, by using up some free time high school students seem to have. High school students getting pregnant and in trouble with the law are outstanding compared to those on the honour roll. By getting the student to communicate with more people broadens their horizons. Having them see there is more in this giant world then just the name brand pants they have on, and the accomplishment of working hard to be able to buy the nice things in life. Having students volunteer teaches them the responsibility of the real world. They have a duty to fulfill, accountability, and people now depend on them. If something came up like a test they may need to study, they need to call the boss to plan for someone else to take their shift. The student may have the responsibility to open or close the store for daily operations, to follow the daily cleaning instructions or maybe just stock shelves. If these responsibilities are not met by...

Do Cfo's Make Better Ceo's?

...Do CFO's make better CEO'S? Introduction The CFO possesses many significant advantages as well as disadvantages if he/she is chosen to become the CEO. Recently an increasing number of company boards have decided that in order to best serve shareholders it is prudent to promote the CFO to CEO. CFOs themselves remain reticent about any personal ambitions beyond the CFO role - at least in public. But given this recent string of high profile promotions there is an increasing recognition that they have what it takes to take over the CEO role. To understand why CFOs are more frequently getting the top job it is important to know what the contemporary holder of the post does with his time. Article entitled “CFO to CEO” explains that the Monty Python image of an accountant sitting in a corner counting beans has disappeared, says Ian Graves, district director of continental Europe, at recruitment agency Robert Half International. Bluntly put, CFOs are now a much more exciting breed. In the 1990s, the CFO role became more dynamic and strategic, moving from being merely a functional head to also being a corporate leader (“CFO to CEO”, 2005). CEOs can benefit greatly from a CFO background. They will have a well grounded idea of how the financial laws affect the company as well as how official documents are created and how they are submitted. In short, the CEO with this background will be another possible safety net and another eye looking for deceit in the lower ranks. There are...

Does School Uniforms Make Schools Better?

...Does School Uniforms Make School Better? Do school uniforms really make schools better? I say NO! Only because I, myself, went to a school that had to wear uniforms. While there are advantages of school uniforms, there are also some disadvantages. Depending on the requirements, school uniforms can be expensive to buy for parents. There are also arguments that wearing uniforms hides the child’s personality and therefore they cannot express themselves in their own way. The staff thinks it would be best for their students to wear uniforms and that the schools would be better disciplined but, what they failed to realize is that it was the uniforms getting us into trouble. Students would get sent out of class multiple times for dress code violations, then sent to ISS, then a campus level hearing for a possible referral to a district level hearing and then eventually your sent to alternative, because you didn’t have your shirt tucked in, or your pants were rolled up, but you know maybe all that happened because your mom bought your school clothes over the summer and you just so happen to GROW. Your shirt was un-tucked because it was to short and your pants were rolled up because you didn’t want to have high waters. Can Smart Technology in Classrooms Make Your Child Learn Better

...Smart! But can it make your child learn better? by Karan Khemka [->0] Schools are turning to education technology to provide better teaching. Yet, despite strong growth, many edutech companies face challenges for sustainable growth With exploding affluence in emerging markets like India and Brazil, governments are unable to keep up with the demand for high-quality education among the growing middle class. Families are turning to private schools, and enrolment has grown, for example, in China by 12 percent and India by 8 percent per year in recent years. Entrepreneurs are opening private institutions at unprecedented rates: In India, the current 70,000 private schools are expected to double in the next decade, with an astonishing 20-30 schools set to open daily. Two new private schools are opening in Sao Paulo each day. | The rapid growth of these markets is generating intense competition among private schools. Unlike other consumer offerings, schools are both highly localised and experiential; urban families have breadth to be choosy, and schools must deliver reviews and results before families will opt in. It is no coincidence that top schools and universities—Oxford, Harvard, Eton, Andover—are also the oldest schools in their countries. Our findings show that 20 percent of Brazilian private schools and 25 percent of Indian private schools have been in operation less than five years. This creates a challenging set of circumstances in which new schools must differentiate...

...A Review of " Did the Players Give Up Money to Make the NBA Better? Exploring the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement in the National Basketball Association" Xiao Chen Johnson & Wales University A Review of " Did the Players Give Up Money to Make the NBA Better? Exploring the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement in the National Basketball Association" It's a long but clear title; and I use two whole lines to write it. I'm a basketball fan. When I planned to find a prime resource to read and write about it, I'm aware of some researches or business events involving my interest and business, so I chose this article. After reading the whole essay, I felt perplexed because it wasn't a general primary research that I could recognize at once and the author used some data from sports association. Finally, I thought it's available deliberately. I have two sample reasons: one is that the author collects the valuable data; the other is that the author analyze and flow the idea to the conclusion. Statement of the Problem What is the implied research question in this study? The answer is obvious. Just like the title, this research is to talk about effects of the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement in the National Basketball Association. As we knows, because of the new bargaining agreement, players will earn less money that before, and make contribution to the league, but people doesn't it affect or not. This research gives the author's analysis. Review of Related Literature ...

Reviewing the Effect of the Color Red: Does Red Make Us Perform Better?

...Reviewing the effect of the Color Red: Does Red make us perform better? In many contexts, individuals compete to show dominance over others, whereas dominance can be due to different factors. Several studies attribute a reaction to the color red to the success in competitions, but however in different ways. This review is meant to elaborate on the different hypothesizes about the color red and it’s effect on competitions and the methods used to test these hypothesizes. Hill and Barton (2005) suggested that the presence of the color red is very influential in competitive settings by triggering a feeling of dominance and aggression in the competitor when s/he wears the color. They refer to the evolutionary association between red and it’s effect on testosterone levels in individuals, that reflect male dominance and therefore induce fear in an opponent. Hill and Barton (2005) observed differences in the outcome of the Olympic Games 2004 in which competitors were randomly assigned to wear red or blue outfits. Given that in symmetric contests (in which competitors had relatively equal abilities) the competitors wearing red had a much higher rate of winnings, they hypothesized, that this effect was due to the production of testosterone elicitated by the presence of the color red. Nevertheless, Hill and Barton imputed the outcomes of combat contests only to the performance of the competitors leaving out external factors that are involved in rating the outcomes like the subjective...
