Needs of Stakeholder and Shareholder Obligations

...Needs of the Stakeholder and Shareholder Obligations The discussion board question to be addressed in this paper is how can a company focus on the needs of its stakeholders without neglecting its shareholder obligations? Answering this question will require defining both stakeholders and shareholders, identifying the corporation’s responsibility to each and then stating the solution. Shareholder According to Lewis and Weber, a shareholder is “a person, group, or organization owning one or more shares of stock in a corporation; the legal owners of the business” (Lawrence & Webber, 2013, p. 585). These are also known as stockholders. The company and its managers are generally expected or obligated to produce as much value as possible for the company’s owners and investors. They are “to make the most money it can for shareholders who own stock in the company” (Lawrence and Webber, p. 12) Stakeholder A stakeholder is defined as “persons or groups that affect, or are affected by, an organization’s decisions, policies, and operations” (Lawrence and Webber, p. 584). Commonly included in such are employees, customers, suppliers, and the community, as well as shareholders and other investors. The idea is that there is a corporate social responsibility or obligation of the firm to serve all stakeholders interests which is practiced through “stakeholder management” (Mattingly, J. E., 2004). The Solution With the inclusion of shareholders in the definition of stakeholders...

Scope Introduction Procter & Gamble (P&G), first introduced a great tasting mouthwash that was minty green and sure to fight off bad breath, called Scope in 1967. In 1990, Scope led the Canadian market share with 32%. However, since 1988 when Pfizer Inc. launched a new mouthwash called Plax, it became Scopes’ major competitor. Plax offered something different from the typical mouthwashes. Plax had the advantage over other brands because not only did it offer fresh breath and killing germs, but it was also a plaque fighter. Gwen Hearst, brand manager, is in charge of increasing market share, volume, and profits for Scope. Marketing Issues First, does Scope intend on introducing a new line extension by developing a product that strictly focuses on fighting plaque. This must be done in a way not to mistake the customer into thinking that there are additional claims to the original product. Second, add new claims to the already existing product. This would state something like “Scope not only gives fresh breath and kills germs, but it also fights plaque.” Or third, take no action but would need to focus on increasing...

...IMPROVING LOCAL HEALTH CARE JaCinta Oglesbee Strayer University HSA 520: Health Information Systems Aug 26, 2012 Dr. Retta Evans 1. Think back on the last time you accessed health care services in your community and make recommendations for incorporating unapplied telecommunications concepts that would have improved your visit. Provide specific examples to support your response. Medical providers are increasingly employing health information technology to improve patient safety, quality of care and efficiencies. However, adoption of health information technology has remained slow in rural areas. The use of electronic medical records would have improved the visit to the health care provider. “Medical records are central to all patient care activities, whether maintained in paper format or electronically. However, the development of a completely electronic longitudinal health record remains an elusive goal”, (Austin, C. J., & Boxerman, S. B, pg.227). Statewide initiatives for rural providers to expand use of interoperable electronic health records and health information technology should be put in place. And, it is important that new technology mandates be scalable. Incorporating Health Information Technology requires thorough and systematic...
