Management Planning

Introduction
Rockefeller and his associates founded Standard Oil Company in Ohio in the 1850’s. They purchased a three-quarter interest in Vacuum Oil Company, this was purchased in 1879. In 1966 Standard Oil changes its name to Mobil after Standard Oil celebrates 100 years being in business. In 1972 Jersey Standard changes its name to Exxon Corporation with the approval from Jersey Standard shareholders during a special meeting. In 1997 Mobil introduces speedpass an electronic system which activates the pumps and charges credit cards. In November 1999 Exxon and Mobil join to form Exxon Mobil Corporation. This merger is to enhance their ability to be more effective global competitors.
Ethic, Legal and Social Responsibility
The ethical responsibility at Exxon Mobil is to comply with all governmental laws, rules and regulations. The corporation has chosen to have the highest integrity. Exxon Mobil expects compliance with its standard of integrity throughout the corporation and they will not tolerate any employees who achieve results cost in violation of law or who deal unconscientiously. Exxon Mobil Corporation has been conducting business in a manner that would be compatible for our environment and economic needs, which they operate to protect the communities in the safety, security, and health. The commitment they have for the community has been documented in the safety, security, health, environmental and product safety policies. All of these are put through the management system. The legal issues that they had been when there was an oil spill in Alaska. It was a major one. It was the Valdez oil spills which happen on March 24, 1989. According to the news it was the lowest point in Exxon Mobil’s 125 year history. Exxon Mobil took immediate responsibility for the spill; it cost them 4.3 billion dollars for the cleanup, compensation, settlement payments. The company compensated over eleven (11) thousand Alaskans and businesses within the year after the spill happen. Their responsibility was to make sure another Valdez would not happen again. Exxon Mobil has double up its long time commitment to safe guard the environment, employees, and operating communities worldwide. They have modified tankers routes, instituted drug/alcohol testing, and many more. Exxon Mobil CSR strategy is to focus on education, public health, environmental and more. They want to promote is Standard of Business conduct which are embedded in the company’s management strategy. Every business has their way to make business decision reflects on the company’s commitment. In the end Exxon Mobil continues to apply its expertise and challenges of providing the best knowledge they know how in energy to the world, in an economically, environmentally and socially responsible manner. The term social responsibility can be in itself as this may include social, ethical, and legal factors (Bateman & Snell, 2009). Any organization can be expected to take responsibility for their shareholders, and investors and one to do it is to provide them all with adequate information.
Strategic, Tactical, Operational, Contingency Planning
Strategic planning, involves making decisions about the organizations long term goals and strategies. Strategic plans have a strong external orientation and cover magic portions of the organization. (Bateman & Snell 2009) Exxon Mobil strategic planning includes to strive to meet with their shareholders; maintaining a leadership position in the core of the business. They are striving to be the best in the business and they plan o doing this by being the most efficient competitor that they know how to be. They want to capture the best investment opportunity while they maintain a selective and discipline approach in business.
Tactical Planning: translate broad strategic goals and plans into specific goals and plans that relevant to a definite portion of the organization often a functional are like marketing or human resources. (Bateman & Snell, 2009)
Exxon Mobil has a group called Operation Integrity Management Systems (OIMS) this has eleven element of framework which includes management leadership commitment and accountability, next “Operation” risk assessment and management, facilities design and construction, information/documentation, personnel training, operations and maintenance, management of change, third party services, incident investigation and analysis, community awareness and emergency, preparedness. Each one of these has different levels of assessments to make them work. Each element has been in the works for over 125 years and each year they are trying to make their company safe for their employees and communities. The management system has to meet Operation Integrity Management Systems expectation they must incorporate the entire characteristic to be effective in what they are doing.
Operational Planning: Identifies the specific procedures and processes required at lower levels of the organization. (Bateman & Snell, 2009)
Exxon Mobil has many different employees who work at different stages such as bookkeeping, supply planning, electrical personnel and so on, each one of these has a very serious job to do and do it well. Let’s look at the person, who works as a supply planner, they are responsible for stock availability whether it is bulk or just a box for the corporation they are still responsible to make sure it is where it is suppose to be. Sales and operations planner they are to be implementation and improving the Sales & Operations Planning process in the European and Africa Middle East Supply chain on all management levels. Leveraging best practices between countries and zones.
Aim to meet and exceed customer expectations by building reliable, timely and efficient supply chain, Exxon Mobil has companies overseas so they need to make sure things are being done overseas as well here in America. Exxon Mobil tactical, operational and strategic planning have been working for over 125 years and they plan and they plan to make things work.
Conclusion
Exxon Mobil have been in business since the mid 1800’s from being Standard Oil and Jersey Oil, they have come together making it ExxonMobil Corporation. They have been working through legal issues of all the oil spills they had to making it a better place for their employees to work and having it safe for their communities whether it is here in America or overseas. They have several ways of making the organization to work whether is through Operation Integrity Management Systems, they have eleven elements that have been working for them for many years and they are making sure that it gets better each year.
