...Week 3 Management Structures By: Misty Ladnier The organization is run by people chosen best to handle the stressful situations that we are faced on a daily basis. I have been trained to make sure that my victims are treated correctly to their individual cases. In order to do so I need an organizational structure. I will explain the advantages and disadvantages of Departmentalization, Matrix organizations, the project team, and the collegial model. Departmentalization is very tricky; you have to pair individuals up so that the department runs smoothly. Sometimes you have people that need to be trained to do this kind of work so that the department does have great communication skills to understand what is going on at all times to keep your patients happy. Matrix organizations have resources that can be shared amongst the department or company. They run on getting ideas from whatever can be tapped at that particular time. What would lead to complications are two or more people that are management and the lack of communication. This can lead to frustrations with the staff that are one step below or one step higher. The project team is the people that come up with ideas. They are the people that have events for the employees or the patients. These events can bring fundraisers for things needed for the organization. But disagreements can put any planning at a standstill and then it can become too late to have it. The collegial model is people within the company that have...

...HSM/220 Week 3 Checkpoint: Management Structures Services for domestic abuse patients can be used in every organization that provides human services. There should be departments linked to the response to domestic violence and focus on helping those in need. Departmentalization is the process of dividing an organization into blocks or groups that may provide assistant to victims of domestic violence. Departmentalization offers both advantages and disadvantages to any organization. Advantages include: growth and expansion; management development; better customer service; improved efficient and enhance communication. Disadvantages include: communication reduced, slow decision-making and lack of cooperation between departments (Lewis, 2013). On a day-to-day operation, departmentalization is a conceptual tool, not simply a way to depicting the number of positions within an organization. Decisions about how to subdivide the work of an agency will depend on the nature of the service provided. The kinds of structure that are flexible and responsive to people in need (victims of domestic violence) can all be categorized under the heading of matrix organizations (Kettner, 2002). Advantages include: employees are highly responsive to both function and product line; flexibility of employee assignment and specialized resources. Disadvantages include: Constant tension between functional specialty and product line; dual authority structure difficult to maintain and employees have a difficult...

Your organization is happy to have you on board and trusts you decisions. Due to an increase in demand for services in your area, your center will be increasing the number of employee’s by 100%. Your employer asks you to participate in an expansion plan. Your task is to research possible organizational structures that best suit the needs of your clients and organization. In 200-300 words, describe the advantages and disadvantages of each of the following organizational structures: Departmentalization I was in charge of researching the best organization structure for a counseling center that offers services for victims of domestic violence. The departmentalization has six options that include: program, function, process, matrix, consumer/client, and geographical area. The advantages I will have when using the departmentalization structure is that the employees will have knowledge of not only their specialized career but in other different resources and programs. The employees can help the clients with their specific problem and not be wasting time researching for the problem. The disadvantage that I see in this structure is that if the client has more than one issue they may not be able to address each one. The client might end up going to different programs for the other problem. MANAGEMENT STRUCTURES ...

...Structure is extremely important to any organization or business. Not every organization provides the same services or products; therefore not every organization is going to be structured the same way. According to University of Phoenix Achieving Excellence in the Management of Human Services Organizations, (2002), There are four organizational structures that human services agencies have adapted as what is known as the “Formal and the Informal Organizational Charts” These organizational structures are known as Departmentalization, Matrix organizations, the project team, and the collegial model. There are five ways that an organization can be departmentalized; by function, by process by market, by consumer/client and by geographic area. Departmentalization breaks the organization down into parts or different departments within the organization. The advantage to this organizational structure is that it breaks the organization down into smaller departments. This helps to ensure that the clients get the services they need and that they are not shuffled from worker to worker. It also makes things easier on the supervisors or managers when something needs to be addressed. As disadvantage to departmentalization is that some personnel might be trained in more than one area and being stuck doing the same thing can sometimes lead to them being unsatisfied in their employment. Matrix organizations are more flexible than departmentalization is. A big advantage to matrix organizations...

...Management Structures HSM/220 I am the manager of a victims domestic abuse center where victims go for help and receive counseling services. We have recently had an increase in victims needing help in our area. My organization has asked me to increase our employees by 100%, and participate in an expansion plan. I need to research possible organizational structures that will best suit the needs of my clients and my organization. Upon my first task, I researched different organizational structures beginning with, Functional Departmentalization which is the process of grouping jobs by their functions, like marketing, finance, human resources performed . Then Product departmentalization which is jobs that are grouped by product line. In this approach each major product area is placed under the authority of a manager. Then there is Geographical Departmentalization which are jobs grouped on the basis of a territory or geography such as southern, mid-western, or northwestern. Next is the Process Departmentalization and this method groups jobs, on the basis of product customer flow. And then there is the Process Departmentalization which is the grouping on the basis of products for customer flow. And finally there is Customer Departmentalization, which is jobs that are grouped on the basis common customers who have common needs. Then I researched the Matrix organizations which is an organizational structure...

...a Matrix structure for the organization. Matrix structures consist of cross-functional project management teams that are formed to solve problems related to growth, diversification, productivity, and competition. The structure calls for temporary collaboration amongst experts from various functional areas in order to provide flexibility, creativity, cooperation, and fast responses to concerning changes in the market (Ferrell, 2009). Spectrum Brands may use a matrix structure to leverage the success that others have experienced in the food transportation, aerospace, and extractives industries. In food transportation, businesses like Tree of Life have used this structure in supply chain to ensure that vice presidents of inventory management, transportation, and warehousing, individually partner with procurement specialists of different product lines to ensure maximum throughput from distribution centers (Casper, 2009). In aerospace and global extractive businesses like oil, gas, and mining, Matrix structures have been used to integrate dissimilar international business segments under a common goal by mobilizing highly skilled executive teams with global functional roles (Millar, 2008). Spectrum Brand relates to these industries in its mission to diversify the portfolio, requiring a myriad of vendors and a sophisticated supply chain in an international marketplace. 2) Explain how the firm could operate using a Multidivisional structure. A multidivisional structure organizes...

...The Spectrum Brands Organize Using A Matrix Structure A matrix structure as a project management structure sets up teams from different departments, thereby creating two or more intersecting lines of authority. Also, matrix addresses issues that arise with the growth, diversification, productivity, and competitiveness in its structure. Matrix structures provide flexibility, enhanced cooperation, and creativity. They enable the company to respond quickly to changes in the environment by giving special attention to specific projects or problems. An approached to organization design in which employees report both to a functional or departmental supervisor and a project supervisor is a matrix design. When David Jones started his career in Rayovac in 1996, the company almost exclusively produced batteries. In his first year, Rayovac generated sales of about $400 million. Mr. Jones has changed the strategic direction of the company, introducing Matrix structures and he diversified the product lines and Rayovac is not competing in several different markets. Ultimately, Jones strategies have led to a name chang for the corporation. It is now known as the Spectrum Brands Corporation. The Spectrum Company not only produces batteries; but also many varieties like pet products, personal grooming, and lawn and garden care. Matrix structure has helps the company annual sales growth and diversified its production in to multi- items. The market becomes bigger in the world wide markets and...

...concern about any risk.” (Madura, 2008) “As these examples suggest, banks can incur agency costs, or costs resulting from managers increasing their own wealth as to oppose to the shareholders wealth.” (Madura, 2008) For banks to prevent these types of agency problems, a few banks give stock as compensation to managers. With those types of managers they normally will make sure to maximize the shareholders wealth because they are also shareholders. If any of the decisions made by the manager are conflicting with the goal of maximizing the shareholders wealth, the share price will not be able to attain its highest. The board of directors are either appointed or elected to act as, representatives of the stockholders to institute corporate management related policies and to make decisions on major company matters. Some duties include the hiring and firing of executives, dividend policies, options policies and executive compensation. They are the ones who try to make sure that when the managers are making a decision that it is in the best of interest of the shareholders. Some of the more important functions of bank directors are to decide the payroll system for the bank’s executives. They make sure accurate disclosures of the bank’s financial stand point and performance to investors. Not...

...Assessment 2: Management and Organizational Structure issues Strayer University Situation To gain perspective of operating efficiencies within the Spectrum Brands organization, an examination of differing structures will be written. This paper will offer perspectives of the matrix and multidivisional structures, possible communication problems and ways to overcome them. A recommendation of effective centralization of organizations will be offered. Action 1. When David Jones joined Rayovac batteries were the main product line. For the company to utilize a matrix structure would prove effective in times of growth by branching out into other product lines. This requires existing management and employees having different backgrounds and focusing on different aspects of a project. Assuming Spectrum Brands intends to create a new vacuum cleaner, a team would be formed with each person being from different departments, and possibly specializations. This would exist as a person from design and engineering and another from marketing working to create the vacuum. The organization would exist as a team with the individuals still having to report to their functional management, but also reporting to project managers working on associated aspects of the vacuum cleaner product development. As the vacuum cleaner product develops, certain individuals would become more involved while others might drop out of the team completely. Action 2. The use of multidivisional structure is likely...

...Check Point: Management Structures Holly Regan HSM/220 September 12, 2013 Melissa Lichau Management Structures Departmentalization is conducted in six different ways or in relation to six different set of circumstances that have been departmentalized categorically. I process, in these six different ways to departmentalize, each has its very own unique way of precisely targeting the necessary criteria which could be by program, by function, by market, by consumer/client, or by geographical area. In order to be successful with each type of departmentalization, the board must effectively and precisely pinpoint its general area of need and what it will take to be successful in terms of assistance in these particular areas. Matrix organizations are kinds of structures that a categorized flexible and responsive and are characterized by employees having more than one supervisor and in order for them to perform at their highest level of productivity, they must have some area of expertise that is disciplined. The project team happens to become a creation of several highly imaginatively intelligent groups of people that are formed to collaborate with each other and strive at creating more diverse ideas, or putting a different take on some of the many already formed ideas and the opinions of those more diverse ideas. The collegial model works flawlessly when each member is able to be independent, but equally share management responsibilities or work out a specific rotation...

With a tough several years embroiled in a downturned economy, a focus will be put on how DuPont has responded and adapted through its management style and implementation of strategies to maintain profitability and realign themselves with the market. II. Introduction/ History E. I. Du Pont De Nemours was founded in 1805 and was incorporated in Wilmington Delaware in 1915. The company first produced high-grade powder used in explosives. However, by the early 1900’s, the company shifted their focus to chemicals and energy to meet escalating needs by consumers and businesses. ...be interpreted as a statement from the perspective of a critical theorist (Green 2004) and if left unchallenged this statement would prove absolute. However, using a modernist perspective it can be argued that understanding would lead to quantification (Hatch, 2006) that could in turn, lead to greater efficiency. Solely from referencing the two theories above and the 2 ways of looking at a single statement we can ascertain that a combination of perspectives gives us a greater understanding than a single perspective. This essay explores how using a multi perspective approach would provide the individual with a more comprehensive and well ronded understanding to organisations, an increased capacity to understand how to better embrace structure and its implications and the holistic simplification and explaination of cultural effects. It also brings to light the conflicting nature of these theories and its inherant biasness. The first advantage of using a multi-perspective approach to understanding an organisation would be that it provides us with a more comprehensive and well-rounded understanding to organisations. This greater understanding begins with the internalisation of the different perspective’s ontology and epistemology, which are the assumptions about the nature of reality and the method in which knowledge is attained respectively (Marianne, 2002). The modernist epistemology is positivism, which states that “truth is discovered through valid conceptualisation...
