HSM/220

I am the manager of a victims domestic abuse center where victims go for help and receive counseling services. We have recently had an increase in victims needing help in our area. My organization has asked me to increase our employees by 100%, and participate in an expansion plan. I need to research possible organizational structures that will best suit the needs of my clients and my organization.

Upon my first task, I researched different organizational structures beginning with, Functional Departmentalization which is the process of grouping jobs by their functions, like marketing, finance, human resources performed . Then Product departmentalization which is jobs that are grouped by product line. In this approach each major product area is placed under the authority of a manager. Then there is Geographical Departmentalization which are jobs grouped on the basis of a territory or geography such as southern, mid-western, or northwestern. Next is the Process Departmentalization and this method groups jobs, on the basis of product customer flow. And then there is the Process Departmentalization which is the grouping on the basis of products for customer flow. And finally there is Customer Departmentalization, which is jobs that are grouped on the basis common customers who have common needs.

Then I researched the Matrix organizations which is an organizational structure that facilitates the horizontal flow of skills and information. It is used mainly in the management of large projects or product development processes, pulling employees from different functional disciplines for assignment to a team without removing them from their respective positions. I have been trained to make sure that my victims are treated correctly to their individual cases. In order to do so I need an organizational structure. What would lead to complications are two or more people that are management and the lack of communication. This can lead to frustrations with the staff that are one step below or one step higher. There should be departments linked to the response to domestic violence and focus on helping those in need. Departmentalization is the process of dividing an organization into blocks or groups that may provide assistant to victims of domestic violence.
