Q.1.Was playing Jeopardy a good way to test intelligence of machines? Why or why not? The use of the supercomputer IBM Watson in the Jeopardy American television show was a very good way to test it. Since the show is all about asking the contestants questions from wide range of topics including sciences and history, it will test the ability of Watson to come up with a precise answer. In order to do this, it is fed all the information it needs to participate in the game. The most important part is the process it takes in giving out the answer and the arguments it accompanies it with. (Loftus, 2009). The Jeopardy game provides a good platform since it involves asking question random questions and expects right answers from the participants.
Q.2. Is Watson a good example of computer system intelligence similar to humans? Watson demonstrates a very good example of intelligence similar to that of humans. It is able to accept questions, analyse them, determine what they require and give the correct answer. However, the requirements needed by the computer to come up with the answer is very different from humans. The computer will need to be fed all the information in order to perform effectively.
Q.3.Would Watson be useful in consumer services and what should have to achieve this? The ability of Watson to answer any question asked, having fed with the right information, can be very helpful in businesses. Especially in matters relating to customer services. Customers are able to get answers from the various question they may have

Warehousing Management System

...Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) The evolution of warehouse management systems (WMS) is very similar to that of many other software solutions.  Initially a system to control movement and storage of materials within a warehouse, the role of WMS is expanding to including light manufacturing, transportation management, order management, and complete accounting systems.  To use the grandfather of operations-related software, MRP, as a comparison, material requirements planning (MRP) started as a system for planning raw material requirements in a manufacturing environment.  Soon MRP evolved into manufacturing resource planning (MRPII), which took the basic MRP system and added scheduling and capacity planning logic. Eventually MRPII evolved into enterprise resource planning (ERP), incorporating all the MRPII functionality with full financials and customer and vendor management functionality.  Now, whether WMS evolving into a warehouse-focused ERP system is a good thing or not is up to debate.  What is clear is that the expansion of the overlap in functionality between Warehouse Management Systems, Enterprise Resource Planning, Distribution Requirements Planning, Transportation Management Systems, Supply Chain Planning, Advanced Planning and Scheduling, and Manufacturing Execution Systems will only increase the level of confusion among companies looking for software solutions for their operations. Even though WMS continues to gain added functionality, the initial core functionality...

Mysql Database Management System

...A database management system (DBMS) “creates, reads, updates, and deletes data in a database while controlling access and security” (Baltzan, 2015, p.92). The database management system that I have decided to write about is MySQL. SQL stands for structured query language which “asks users to write lines of code to answer questions against a database” (Baltzan, 2015, p.92). The company that makes and distributes the system is Oracle Corporation. Oracle Corporation is a worldwide computer technology corporation that was founded on July 16, 1977 in Santa Clara, California by Larry Ellison, Bob Miner, and Ed Oates. The headquarters are located in Redwood City, California and focuses on increasing and selling computer hardware systems and enterprise software products but mostly its own brands of database management systems. Oracle also builds tools for database development and systems of middle-tier software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, customer relationship management (CRM) software, and supply chain management (SCM) software. In this article “DBA and Developer Guide to MySQL 5.6”, talks about the new development of MySQL on how it is much better and that it has improved and just explaining more about its improvement. It has better performance and scalability, better application availability with online DDL/Schema, and better developer agility with NoSQL Access with Memcached API to InnoDB. It has improved in replication for high performance, self-healing,...

Management Information System Word

...Data base management systems: A database management system (DBMS) is system software for creating and managing databases. The DBMS provides users and programmers with a systematic to create, retrieve, update and manage data. A DBMS makes it possible for end users to create, read, update and delete data in a database. The DBMS essentially serves as an interface between the database and end users or application programs, ensuring that data is consistently organized and remains easily accessible. The DBMS manages three important things: The data, the database engine that allows data to be accessed, locked and modified -- and the database schema, which defines the database’s logical structure. These three foundational elements help provide concurrency, security, data integrity and uniform administration procedures. Typical database administration tasks supported by the DBMS include change management, performance monitoring/tuning and backup and recovery. Many database management systems are also responsible for automated rollbacks, restarts and recovery as well as the logging and auditing of activity. * Data modeling vs Database structure Data modeling is often the first step in database design and object-oriented programming as the designers first create a conceptual model of how data items relate to each other while a data structure is a specialized format for organizing and storing data. Different steps of developing database * Enterprise data model: preliminary understanding...

Paper on Database Management Systems

...International Journal of Scientific & Engineering Research Volume 3, Issue 3, March -2012 ISSN 2229-5518 1 A Distributed Transaction Model for a Multidatabase Management System Omar Baakeel and Abdulaziz Alrashidi Abstract— This paper examines the distributed transaction issues that are present in multi-database management systems (DBMSs) and how the distributed transaction in database technology differs from other distributed processing systems. Some common issues that arise with the distribution of transactions over a multi-DBMS while dealing with concurrency control and recovery are highlighted, such as site failure, network failure, and time failure. This study proposes an exceptional distributed transaction model for processing transaction queries in multi-DBMS based on the idea that a complete database can be constructed at any stage. Index Terms— Database management system (DBMS), distributed transaction, transaction management, transaction network —————————— —————————— 1 INTRODUCTION ENERALLY, a distributed transaction is defined as a transaction that updates data on two or more networked computer systems. Different conceptual structures for processing transaction elements are required to meet certain needs of applications that must update distributed data in terms of peer to peer connection. Developing a transaction model is difficult because most of these techniques are customized for a single transaction point, and many types of failures, such as client failure...
