Question 2: What four basic functions make up the management process? How are they related to another?
The four basic functions that make up the management process are Planning and Decision Making, Organization, Leading and Controlling. They are related to each other because a good manager is able to implement two or more of these functions at a time. A manager needs to be organized and controlled to plan and make decisions and vice versa. They need to be able to lead and organize their employees to be able to carry out plans and decisions.
Question 3: Identify several of the important skills that help managers succeed. Give an example of each. How might the importance of different skills vary by level and area within an organization?
Some important skills that help managers succeed are:
Technical Skills: Being able to train employees and answer work-related questions.
Interpersonal Skills: Being able to interact and get another with people inside and outside the organization.
Conceptual Skills: Being able to understand how the organization works as a whole and with its environment.
Diagnostic Skills: Being able to come up with the right response to situations.
Communication Skills: Being able to voice their opinions and information to employees and to be able to understand what employees are conveying to them.
Decision-making Skills: Being able to recognize problems and find the right actions to take to deal with the problems
Time management Skills: Being able to work efficiently and assign work properly.
Question 5: Describe the system perspective. Why is a business organization considered an open system?
The book defines a system as “an interrelated set of elements functioning as a whole”. The system perspective looks at an organization that has four basic aspects: inputs,
