Mangoes in the Philippines

...comes in your mind when you hear the word “Mango”? If you will ask me that question, the first thing that I think of is the Philippines. In my opinion, I can say, Without any doubt, that the best mangoes that the world has ever tasted came from the Philippines. I know people from other mango producing countries will question my statement. However, I am confident to say that there is no other mango out there that can beat Philippine mangoes in terms of sweetness, sourness, size, and weight. I tried almost all the imported mango varieties here in the US — including local mangoes. They all taste different from the original Philippine Mango. There are even varieties here that says “Manila Mangoes” in the sticker, but the taste does not say so. There are many mango varieties in the Philippines. Champagne mango or Carabao mango is probably the most famous in terms of taste. This mango variety is the sweetest mango that I ever tasted. It is also the mango variety that the Philippines export to other countries. There are different strains (breed) produced from Carabao mango — one of which is called Sweet Elena. If I am not mistaken, this breed originated somewhere in Zambales. Sweet Elena mango is the sweetest that I ever had. It is probably the sweetest mango in the world. There are also the well loved Cebu and Guimaras mangoes which are of world class quality. Filipinos enjoy eating mango regardless if it is green or ripe. The Pico mango or Manggang Pico is best eaten......

Banana (Musa Acuminato) Peelings and Mango (Magnifera Indica) Peelings as an Organic Fertilizer for Container Plants

...“Banana (Musa acuminato) peelings and Mango (Magnifera indica) peelings as an organic fertilizer for container plants” INTRODUCTION: Fertilizer is a substance used to promote plant growth. Natural or synthetic chemical substance or mixture used to enrich soil so as to promote plant growth. Plants do not require complex chemical compounds analogous to the vitamins and amino acids required for human nutrition, because plants are able to synthesize whatever compounds they need. It is mostly used in household gardens and farms around the world. It is useful in stimulating the plant growth so, it is most widely used. There are two types of fertilizers, the organic fertilizer and the inorganic fertilizer. They were both created to give off the same purpose; which is to stimulate a plant’s growth, but, there is a difference in their effects otherwise to Mother Nature. They are both made up of different compositions. Organic fertilizers are made of purely organic materials or chemicals while inorganic fertilizers are made up of the mixture of chemicals made by man and some chemicals which naturally come about from nature. My Favorite Foods

...History of Culture and Cuisine My Favorite Foods Mangos Mangos have been cultivated in South Asia for thousands of years and arrived to East Asia between the 4th and 5th centuries BC. By the 10th century AD, its culture had begun in East Africa. The 14th century Moroccan traveler, Ibn Battuta, reported it at Mogadishu Mangos then came later to Brazil, the West Indies and Mexico, where an appropriate climate allows its growth. “Selecting the ripeness of mangos can be determined by either smelling or squeezing” (Fresh mangos, 2011). A ripe mango will have a full, fruity aroma emitting from the stem end. Mangos can be considered ready to eat when slightly soft to the touch and yielding to gentle pressure, like a ripe peach. “The best flavored fruit have a yellow tinge when ripe; however, color may be red, yellow, green, orange or any combination” (Fresh mangos, 2011). Mangoes are widely used in cuisine. Sour, unripe mangoes are used in chutneys, pickles, or side dishes, or may be eaten raw with salt, chili, or soy sauce. Mango is used to make juices, smoothies, ice cream, fruit bars, pies, or a sweet and spicy chili paste. It is popular on a stick dipped in hot chili powder and salt or also as a main ingredient in fresh fruit combinations. “In Central America, mango is either eaten green mixed with salt, vinegar, black pepper and hot sauce, or ripe in various forms”(Fresh mangos, 2011). Toasted and ground pumpkin seed with lime and salt are used in their country when...

Yoga in Marketing

...Simon Kemp: One of the challenges we face as marketers and brands is that we spend a lot of time thinking about the way people perceive us from the outside world without looking inside. How can businesses look at their inward transformation? Sadhguru: There is a fundamental flaw in this process. Without enhancing yourself, you are trying to enhance your activity. It’s like taking a Vauxhall and trying to drive it on an F1 track. It’s bound to fall apart. Instead of dreaming of winning an F1 race if you build a machine which is capable of doing whatever it’s supposed to do, then whether it wins or not is subject to what others have done. Whether you win a race or not simply depends on how good or bad other people are. But when we do something are we functioning from the highest possibility within us, or from the lowest possibility, or somewhere in between, is a big question. And you do not know what your highest possibility is. For every other creature in this planet nature has drawn two lines. But for human beings there is only the bottomline and no topline. So it does not matter what you become, you still do not know whether you hit the peak or not. Only those people interested in winning races with crippled people have hit the peak. No matter what you have done there is always a chance that you can do more. Enhancing the machine and human mechanism is most important. Whether you win the race or not is not important. Then everything will be enhanced. The......

Filipina Is Another Name for Maid by Luisa A. Igloria (Copy)

...THEY SAY FILIPINA IS ANOTHER NAME FOR MAID by Luisa A. Igloria Our Overseas Contract Workers are the new heroes of the Philippines --Fidel V. Ramos In Hong Kong last summer my office mate and I took turns, smiling for pictures in front of "The Court of Final Appeal," as a joke, or maybe in a kind of atonement--because two women boarding the same ferry we took that morning said, in the dialect they were sure we would recognize, Is it your day off too? One of them had a quick, nervous way of smiling, as if ready to take it back if we had turned on them with indignation. The other was clearly ready to challenge, if the well- intentioned expression of solidarity were read otherwise. It was a day filled with rainclouds, a sky the color of aluminum, the dull sheen on the inside of an old rice cooker. Yes, we smiled, it's our day, off too. Is your amo kind? ventured the younger of the two, shyly. Yes, we said, thinking of the air- conditioned offices and computers we had left behind for two weeks of r & r, as we leant back on the green railing. The boat punched forward, toward the red and yellow buildings, the rickshaws lined up in the shade. Mine too, she said; now. But the first one… and her voice trailed like a scarf over the water, hesitating. We had to force our way in, said her friend, picking up the thread. I called the center, you know, the one near the church? Migrante. She was this close to being raped. Did you hear about......

The Ranch

...Roberto Muniz Professor Andrew Husband ENG 101.01 February 25, 2013 The Ranch It’s the end of the school year, and I know I have completed my part by passing all my classes. Now I’m sitting on the sofa watching television, but I can’t help but to feel anxious. I already know where I’m are going and who I will be going with, but I still need to hear the words conforming it. Fighting to stay awake I hear the door starting to open, excitement takes over me and I’m no longer sleepy or watching television. Then it happens, the words I have been waiting to hear all day coming rolling out of my father’s mouth: “we are going to the ranch.” Going to the ranch was and still is the most special place for me. After the trip announcement, it was packing time. The house was in complete joy, yet it was chaotic at the same time. I would run to my room as fast as I could and pull out my suitcase, but clothes were not on my mind. The ranch called for special items to be packed, like my slingshot, one of my prized possessions. It took me weeks to make it and find the right type of tree with the right tree branch. My uncle put it all together for me, he even added a leather hand grip. I couldn't play around with the slingshot in my neighborhood, so the ranch was perfect for target practice. Next was my pair of binoculars, they were perfect for the ride into the ranch, and once at the ranch those binoculars would always be around my neck. With all my special items packed, it was time to......
