All my life I have been nurtured in and exposed to the wonders of the world of mathematics. Because my father was the deputy director of the Institute o f Quantitative and Technical Economics at the Chinese Academy of Social Scie nces, during my childhood I was often surrounded by mathematical data, formu las and charts. As I grew older, I began to realize that by collecting and a nalyzing data and building mathematical models according to the data, my fat her had the power to forecast such grand concepts as the growth rate of the
GDP (Gross Domestic Product). I was astonished by the power of mathematics a nd my curiosity drove me to read as many books as I could in the related fie ld. Gradually, I found that I had stepped into another world, a world of int elligence and aesthetics. I felt that it might be my destiny to probe this w orld. With self-confidence and my father's encouragement, I chose applied mathemat ics as my major in college. Thanks to the excellent faculty who guided me on my pilgrimage across the mathematical universe, my love for mathematics con tinued to bloom. In my analysis courses, I first met the continuous function under the definition of Cauchy. Then, my vision broadened to the Riemann in tegrable function space, which is composed of "almost" continuous functions. With the advent of the set theory, my vision again expanded to the measurab le function under the theory of the Lebesgue Integral. In my algebra courses
, I was equipped with a powerful tool- the matrix. The more knowledge I lear ned, the more useful I found that this tool, especially in numerical analysi s and optimization. When I moved into the real abstruse world of abstract al gebra, I came to realize that mathematical symbols did not have to stand for numbers; for instance, they may represent matrices, quaternions, or transfo rmations. In fact, it...

The March on Washington

...The March on Washington Introduction It is August 1963, and tensions have been mounting in the year leading up to this day. I don’t think anyone realized the impact this march would have on the civil rights movement or if Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. knew his impromptu speech alone would have a significant impact on the American people and on the soon to fallow political choices. Had this march not have gone the way it did things may have taken longer to move forward and the Civil Act Movement in my opinion may have been stunted and delayed. Body Between 1940’s and 1963 there had been two marches organized on Washington the first was led by A. Philip Randolph whom was the consummate black political organizer of his age. He labored unrelentingly to get individuals and groups to put aside their divisive, parochial, and often petty concerns and close ranks in the formation of a mass movement for the common good. The foremost architect of the modern Civil Rights movement, he urged boycotts in the South against Jim Crow trains, buses, schools, and businesses. “Nonviolent Good Will Direct Action” is what he labeled his movement to gain social equality decades before Martin Luther King, Jr., and others emerged on the 1960’s political scene. If not the man himself, then his influence and ideas were at home at the forefront of virtually every civil rights campaign from the 1930’s through the 1960’s, including desegregation of public accommodations and schools, ending of......

Was the Long March a Success

...The Long March Part A Practice The Long March took place in China from October 1934 to October 1935. It was a strategic retreat from Jianxi province in the south, all the way to Yan’an in the north of China. The Long March began Mao Zedong's ascent to power, whose leadership during the retreat gained him the support of the members of the party. The bitter struggles of the Long March, which was completed by only about one-tenth of the force that left Jiangxi, came to represent a significant event in the history of the Communist Party of China. This sealed the personal prestige of Mao and his supporters as the new leaders of the party in the following twenty years, creating the new party elite. Some historians, such as Spence, are sceptical about the significance of the Long March on the CCP. However it is clear that at the time it was an incredibly significant event for the communists. This is shown by Sources 2 and 6, both intimating that the Long March was crucial. The success of the Long March created propaganda for the communists and helped to spread the communist message amongst the population of China. One short term effect of the Long March was that communism was spread around China and events during the Long March were mythologised and used as propaganda against Chiang and the KMT.  It was vital in helping the CCP to gain a positive reputation among the peasants due to the determination and dedication of the surviving participants of the Long March. Source 7 is a......

Peace March

...My word, what a program Capital Talk of 3rd October proved to be, guests included Imran Khan (PTI), Marie Ann Wright (US former diplomat) and Lauren Booth (Britsh journalist). The show was hosted by Hamid Mir and its agenda was to talk on the issue of Drone attacks and Waziristan Peace March. Hamid Mir proved to be comparatively better anchor than other hosts such as Sana Bucha, Asma Shirazi and Javed Chaudhary, etc. He was moving on with questions instead of asking same questions repeatedly. Biggest surprise for me were responses given by the two foreign guests; they seemed to be more Pakistani than any so-called anchor, analyst, or politician from PPP, PMLN, MQM and ANP etc., kudos to them for speaking out truth with courage and audacity. Imran Khan, as usual, was solid in his responses and clear on his stances. He did not budge even for a moment when he declared that once the proper voice has been raised in front of United States and within United Nations against the use of Drones in Pakistan, he will order the PAF to shoot down any invading aircraft that violates the sovereignty of Pakistan’s by entering its air space. This is a normal procedure followed by all countries as per UN charter. Marie Ann and Lauren Booth supported Khan in this, though Ann hoped that it will not come to this. Furthermore, the foreign guests confirmed what most neutral, honest and patriotic analysts in Pakistan have been stating continuously, according to them the media abroad is being used...

March 2

...March 2, 2024 Dear Bridgette, How are you? I just wanted to send you a letter letting you know how proud of you I am. You have come such a long way in life. It’s pretty amazing the transformation you have made. You are a great wife to your husband and a wonderful mother to your children, and even to the kids you helped raise that aren’t your own. It’s a beautiful thing to see how much your family means to you. You also have a rewarding career as a RN. It’s a demanding job, and took over 5 years of school, but you did it. Not only did you get your Associates Degree in Nursing, but you went even further by going to a University to get your Bachelor’s Degree. That’s pretty amazing, considering there was a time in your life when you couldn’t imagine anything beyond Bob’s Classy Lady or the Candy Cat. There was a time I wondered if there was any hope for you. All you did was work in bars, whether it be bartending, or dancing. You’re only concerns were having a good time and where the party was and those were your priorities way before you were 21. This is why you dropped outta high school. It interfered with your “good time.” And that resulted in you being in those bars for so many years. You didn’t need an education to pour drinks or dance. Your firstborn, Adrian was the best thing to ever happen to you. Once you got pregnant with him you changed your life from top to bottom. You knew that you could never have a husband and raise a family with the kind of life you had......

March 9th

...Last year on my 22nd birthday I got the best surprise in one of my favorite cities San Francisco, California. It all started with waking up to Taylor Swift’s song “I’m feeling 22” and happily dancing and singing along to the music. The weekend was already special because my younger sister was visiting from the Bay area and my Grandmother and Grandfather were celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary. My sister Sarah, my longtime boyfriend TJ and I started off our Sunday adventure around 7 o’clock in the morning, right after we got Starbucks of course. We were making our way from Antelope, which is in the Greater Sacramento area, to San Francisco to enjoy a day of adventuring. The journey there was full of laughter and music, along with site seeing all the beautiful scenery around. I am a frequent visitor to the City so we decided to go to the beach where we always do, right off of Ocean Beach by the Cliff House restaurant. Like we had done many times before we hiked down the cliff and walked around the old building foundations. The old structure filled with water so we walk on the cement beams around and across careful not to fall in the water with all the seagulls and seaweed. So that part is always fun and almost dangerous at the same time! We finally make our way across after helping one another on the more difficult spots but still having a great time. The next part of our journey was to a cave that ended at the ocean with rocks and waves. In the middle of the cave......

Salt March in India

...The Salt March, also known as the Salt Satyagraha, began with the Dandi March on March 12, 1930, and was an important part of the Indian independence movement. It was a direct actioncampaign of tax resistance and nonviolent protest against the British salt monopoly in colonial India, and triggered the wider Civil Disobedience Movement. This was the most significant organized challenge to British authority since the Non-cooperation movement of 1920–22, and directly followed the Purna Swaraj declaration of independence by the Indian National Congresson January 26, 1930. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (commonly called Mahatma Gandhi) led the Dandi march from his base, Sabarmati Ashram near Ahmedabad, to the sea coast near the village of Dandi. As he continued on this 23 day, 240 mile (390 km) march to produce salt without paying the tax, growing numbers of Indians joined him along the way. When Gandhi broke the salt laws at 6:30 am on April 6, 1930, it sparked large scale acts of civil disobedienceagainst the British Raj salt laws by millions of Indians. The campaign had a significant effect on changing world and British attitudes toward Indian independence and caused large numbers of Indians to join the fight for the first time. After making salt at Dandi, Gandhi continued southward along the coast, producing salt and addressing meetings on the way. His group planned to stage a satyagraha at the Dharasana Salt Works, 25 miles south of Dandi. However, Gandhi was arrested on the......

Its objective was to create the highest recall for Magic in the pre-paid cellular telephony segment by cashing in on the two biggest passions of India - movies and cricket. Bharti also changed the tagline for Magic from 'You Can Do Magic' to 'Magic Hai To Mumkin Hai' (If there is Magic, it's possible). The move attracted considerable media attention, as it was unusual for a company to spend so lavishly to promote a single brand. In October 2002, Bharti launched a television commercial (TVC), featuring Shah Rukh Khan (leading actor, already endorsing Magic since a couple of years) and Kareena Kapoor. The TVC, developed by one of India's leading advertising agencies, Percept Advertising, was the first of the series of four TVCs for Magic's new campaign. According to Bharti, the TVCs aimed at attracting young adults in SEC B and C categories of the Indian market1. | | Commenting on the new developments, Hemant Sachdev (Hemant), Director, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Bharti Enterprises, said, "The aim is to be relevant to the masses and make all their dreams, hopes and desires come...
