This One Summer is an uplifting fictional autobiography depicting the authors Jillian Tamaki and Mariko Tamaki’s vibrant view into girlhood and growing up. Rose has been going to Awago Beach since she was a little girl. Since the age of five, Rose met Windy and both have spent their time together during their stay at Awago Beach. This year, their stay at Awago Beach is much different. Rose and Windy are finding themselves in love and are amid a family crisis. Rose and Windy are caught up in the drama of two teenagers, Dunc and Jenny. Jenny is worried that she has become pregnant by Dunc. This image addresses to the audience it is a summer day of swimming in a lake or beach, which is relevant to the title of the book. The illustrations have been arranged to be read from left to right and from up to down, thus creating an easy format to be able to read. This aids in the reading in which allows the reader to notice it is time to go to the next box and continue the story. The font style in the book is legible and can easily be read. When the characters express themselves with excitement, the font is changed to a larger font size and all letters are capitalized. All language within the book is in a bubble style and pointed to the appropriate person speaking. This allows for the reader to view which character is speaking and can easily view when it is time to move onto the next bubble.
