Mary Lennox from The Secret Garden, written by Frances Hodgson Burnett, is curious, heartfelt and mischievous. Towards the beginning of the story, Mary Lennox hears someone crying in the house at night; She doesn’t know where it is coming from or who is making the noise, and she wants to find out. On page 53, “ ‘There was someone crying—there was—there was!’ she said to herself. She had heard it twice now, and sometime she would find out.” Because Mary desperately wanted to find out what the voice was, she is an extremely curious character. Furthermore, once Mary meets Colin, she is very caring and kind towards him. This makes her heartfelt because many people thought of Colin as an awful person, and they did
