The potential buyers must have access to material information about the firms. The financial sector must be disciplined. In order to show the importance of financial sector discipline, empirical findings on the debtdefault status of privatized enterprises in Bangladesh are presented. The proceeds from privatization can be used for workers’ compensation and labor training since in the short-run labor retrenchment due to dismissal of excess workforce may lead to social and political problems unless alternative arrangements are available for workers.
