Every person has someone that they can always count on. I have two heroes because these two people couldn't have been heroes if they didn't have each other. My hero is my father and my heroine is my mother. When I was about three, my mother was diagnosed with a heart problem. It was a devastating time for the whole family. It was also deeply upsetting seeing my mother attached to all different kinds of tubes with fluids running through them. But seeing my dad give her the support she needed cheered me up a bit, and it gave my mother strength and courage which I began to see in her. Unfortunately, she did not make it. Raising two children on your own is extremely hard work, and I understand that. The quality that makes my father a hero though, is his courage. He is determined to carry on with his life and not let what happened ruin his life and ours. He has taken care of us and has been a single parent now for more than eleven years, so he is very special to us. He has been a great influence in our lives, and we make sure he knows how much we care about him every day. My definition of a hero or heroine is someone very special. They are someone who has qualities not everyone has. My mother's illness opened my eyes and made me realize that my parents showed qualities not many people have.
Sometimes we take the people we love the most for granted but thinking about all the things my father has done for me just makes me love him even more and although some times we don’t get along or see eye-to-eye, Im so fortunate that God has placed this man in my life or I wouldn’t be the person that I am today filled with goals and dreams that has the desire to make these dreams into reality. Sometimes I get frustrated because I do not believe in myself and I do not know how to meet his expectations, but even when he is not able to help me with a problem, he always has an answer for how I can help myself.
For me, leading is a significant attribute of a hero. My father is not only a leader, but a compassionate, selfless encourager as well as disciplinary figure. He is such a loving person, that he is willing to correct those around him in order for them to become a better person. He teaches his own children independence and responsibility so that they will be successful in this cruel world.
Self motivation, Self respesct, respect for others, and self discipline is the charateristics that my parents has instilled in me, they taught me that life isn’t always fair and when you want something you have to work hard and strive for the best and when I have a dream I better run with it and don’t look back until I reach the finish line.

Mary Barnett Cse

...My Thoughts Regarding the Mary Barnett Case Amanda Feeley Westwood College Ethics and Critical Thinking Dr. Henderson 01 November 2010 My Thoughts Regarding the Mary Barnett Case There are a few reasons in why I have concluded that Mary Barnett is guilty for second-degree murder of her child, Alison. Those reasons include: awareness of right and wrong, selfishness, and neglect. First, I would like to recap the case of Mary Barnett and some of the main details of the crime that she committed. On January 23, the defendant, Mary Barnett, left Chicago to visit her fiancé in San Francisco. She left her six month old daughter, Alison, unattended in the apartment. Seven days later, Mary returned to her apartment to find her daughter dead, she died from dehydration. Mary called the police and told them that she had left the child with a baby sitter, but later changed her story and said that she knew Alison would die in a day or two, and that she did not intend on returning home. She was charged with second-degree murder: intentional murder without premeditation. If convicted, she could face up to eighteen years in prison (Chaffee, 2009, p. 65). Next, are the key testimonies of the witnesses that spoke against and on Mary’s behalf during her trial. The witnesses and their testimonies played a key part in my decision of a guilty, verdict, of Mary’s actions. Mary was mentally evaluated by two different psychiatrists; one was her own personal...

Mary

...Accession of Mary Mary’s accession generally accepted and favoured by the English people, most likely because she was a legitimate successor There was the issue with Lady Jane Grey – Northumberland attempted to make his daughter-in-law, Lady Jane Grey, the successor after Edward. She was Queen for nine days, but was deposed and Mary carried on as legitimate successor. Faction Mary was determined to fill the council with loyal people, but she couldn’t prevent all rivalries! = Gardiner vs. Paget. The rivalry emerged over Mary’s marriage issue. Gardiner proposed that Mary should marry Courtnay, and Paget argued she should marry Phillip of Spain Some were also sceptical of some of her policies, such as the effectiveness of the burning of protestants. However, despite some disagreements with her policies, she managed to obtain agreement for 3 major steps: the full return to Rome in religion, her marriage to the heir of the Spanish throne and the declaration of war on France Faction was much less of a problem in Mary’s reign than her predecessors, with a greater sense of continuity and solidarity among most councillors. Marriage The first question on everybody’s lips was “Who should marry Mary?” Edward Courtney vs. Phillip of Spain Why Phillip? He was a Catholic He was Spanish, and Mary was half Spanish after all! He had more political experience as he had already been regent in the Netherlands Spain has money and owns most of Europe and the Americas It would counter...

Mary Magdalene Research Paper

...There has been archaeological ties between Mary Magdalene and Jesus Christ discovered that could aid as evidence for the theorist’s cause. In 1980 near Jerusalem, archaeologists found six inscribed coffins in a 2000-year old tomb. This places Jesus, the mother Mary, Mary Magdalene, and their son all in one tomb, much like a family. The problem with this discovery is that there are no DNA samples from Jesus or Mary, so we can not prove that the corpses in those coffins are in fact Jesus and Mary. Furthermore, paternity or maternity tests can not be done to prove that Jesus and Mary were indeed the parents to their “son” Judah. Scholars also seem to believe that this tomb is home to a Jesus that is not the biblical savior. This could be true, but no one could know for certain without DNA testing....

Mary Rowlandson

...The Struggle: Mary Rowlandson’s Story of Survival “All was gone, my husband gone..., my children gone, my relations and friends gone, our house and home, and all our comforts within door and without, all was gone except my life and I knew not but the next moment might go too.”(Edmund, 19) These were the words of Mary Rowlandson, a woman taken into captivity after Native Americans raided her colony, tortured and murdered the people of the land, and took Mary and a few others and turned them into slaves. Mary’s life was spared because she possessed the skill of sewing, and often sewed and knitted the Indians clothing. During her captivity she analyzed the way the Native Americans socialized and lived their everyday lives. The two worlds were polar opposites, and the way Native American women were treated was much different to the beliefs of Puritan ideology. Indian women even led army groups as large as 300 people; they were considered very strong. The women considered Mary to be weak, and treated her as such. In the Puritan world woman’s power was non-existent, and believes the women were around to serve the man, and their opinions and thoughts were not valued. “It was a solemn sight to see so many Christians lying in their blood, some here and some there, like a company of sheep torn by wolves. All of them striped naked by a company of hell-hounds, roaring, singing, ranting, and insulting, as if they would have torn our hearts out.”(Rowlandson, 9-10) While many of her townspeople...

Mary Dyer

...very outspoken one may I add. She was also a supporter of Anne Hutchinson, a very prominent woman in America back then. She was hung for defying a Puritan law which banned Quakers from the colonies. This woman’s name was Mary Dyer.  Not much is known of Mary Barrett Dyer’s early life. On October 27th, 1663 the first known history of Mary Dyer was noted. She married William Dyer, a very successful merchant, in London. William and Mary added on to the family by giving birth to six children. In 1635 they all migrated to the Massachusetts Bay colony where they had been accepted as members of the Church of Boston. They both realized they found themselves in a place full of controversy involving antinomianism which is holding under the Gospel that moral law is not useful for salvation because faith alone can only accomplish this. Another Quaker woman in Boston, Anne Hutchinson held regular religious meetings at her house where William and Mary often attended. In 1652 Mary and her husband traveled to England where they remained for five long years. This was when she became a Quaker. She had then returned to Boston to spread the message of the Quakers but was sadly imprisoned. Luckily her husband, since he had not adopted the Quakers customs was able to set her free.  Mary dyer was a woman who fought for what she believed in. She was executed almost multiple times. She had two companions when she returned to Massachusetts after being expelled. They were William Robinson and Marmaduke Stephenson...

Over time, Mary's increasingly sensitive questions about the adult world give Max progressively worse anxiety attacks, and he is ultimately institutionalized. During his time there, Max is diagnosed with depression and Asperger syndrome. Mary Cassatt

...Art History Mary Cassatt: The Impressionist Painter Cassatt was an American painter and printmaker. She lived much of her adult life in France, where she first befriended Edgar Degas and later presented among the Impressionists. She often created images of the social and private lives of women, with particular emphasis on the intimate bonds between mothers and children. Although she painted for the majority of her life, the paintings she painted later in life are her most well known pieces: These paintings documented the private lives of women and often children. Cassatt was born in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania on May 22, 1844. Her father was a successful stockbroker and land speculator and her mother came from a banking family. Mary was one of seven children in her family, two of her siblings died in infancy. Mary traveled many places as a young girl, including parts of Europe. Her family moved from Allegheny City, to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and then to the Philadelphia area when she was six years old. When she traveled to Europe, she took art classes and found a passion for painting and drawing. Her family objected her thoughts of becoming a professional artist and ridiculed her for even considering painting as a career. Mary’s parents may have been concerned that she may develop the feminist thinking that many female artists had at that time. However, at the age of fifteen, Mary decided to start taking classes at a Pennsylvania school for art. She was only one...

Mary Wollstonecraft an English writer, philosopher, and advocate of women's rights. Wollstonecraft admits that there is a difference between the sexes, but criticizes the conclusion that men are above women. What is the message of the book? In our time the women mind are not in a healthy state. You can compare them to flowers. They have to beautiful just like a flower. A flower can be weak under the wrong conditions and break. Under the right conditions they can handle some real challenges and grow. Which challenges are you referring to? First and foremost the whole education system. Women are educated to be a good wife. They learn how to play piano and draw instead of read and calculate. What is your personal solution to all this? It is very important for women to find a husband, because they depend heavily on men financially. I want to encourage all women to make a stand, get an education and through that be strong and independent. As regards the men, I request them to be more chaste and modest, and women to grow wiser. Let there be focus in the individual, the freedom to speak your mind and to be yourself. I suggest that both men and women should be treated as rational beings and I imagine...

Proud Mary Analysis

...“Proud Mary” is a 60x48 portrait piece done by Thedra Cullar-Ledford and located in The Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, Texas. Using oil on canvas, Thedra is able to catch the eye of the viewer and emphasize certain things such as the small lump on the breast of the subject (she is naked and has the body of a plastic doll) and the toy gun the subject is holding. Additionally, she uses a wide range of browns to give the subject a rich skin tone and changes the value throughout to make it seem as though there is a spotlight on the subject. She then went on to attend the California College of Arts where she got her MA in printmaking/sculpture, and later the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Arts where she received her BFA in painting.
