My Dreams

...PERSONAL ASSESSMENT GROWTH PLAN | ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR (BUS 5450) | ABIOYE TOLULOPE | PERSONAL ASSSESSMENT AND GROWTH PLAN A convenient starting point for a discourse of this nature would, expectedly, be to provide a brief sketch of my background. My formative years of knowledge- acquisition were spent at various educational institutions in Nigeria. Specifically, between the year 2004 and 2008, I was at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State for degree program leading to the award of Bachelor of Science in Geography. My inquisitive and adventure loving nature steered me easily to the sciences. I chose to study Geography because the earth in itself provides an immeasurable source of instantaneously occurring mysteries. I then went ahead to start my career in sales at a reputable Telecommunications company in Nigeria. After four years mastering the art of sales I decided a career change or at the least career advancement was needed to succeed in this competitive world, hence my decision to pursue a Masters in Business Administration to hone my analytical skills. There are various principles that shape my vision, goals, path and my life’s journey. Amongst the factors that drive me is a passion for excellence, excellence in everything I set out to do however minute the task is. The need to be a pacesetter, a trail blazer, someone that questions the status quo is inherently ingrained in me. Also, having an acute dislike for mediocrity is another factor that has an impact on...

Boston Creamery

...Boston Creamery Case Solution MBA 611 Ryan Grady In 1973, after the installation of a new financial planning and control system at Boston Creamery, the ice cream division showed a favorable operating income variance of $71,700. In developing the profit plan for 1973, division president (and resident moron) Jim Peterson made the first of a series of inexcusable errors in budgeting surrounding the mythical “favorable” condition. He simply used expected results for the preceding year (as obtained in Oct. 1972), giving no consideration to factors like inflation, market growth, and the fact that sales goals should be expected to increase annually in a successful company. Peterson asked Frank Roberts, inept and underhanded VP of sales and marketing, to identify the cause for this seemingly wonderful news at the next management meeting. Roberts has also been instructed to point out the areas deserving of praise and those in need of reform. The report generated by Roberts is as follows. |Roberts' Variance Schedule | | |Favorable Variance Due to Sales | | | |Volume | |$117,700 | | | |Price | |$12,000 |$129,700 | |Unfavorable Variance Due to Operations | | | |Manufacturing...

Contemporary Issues in Management

...CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN MANAGEMENT WORD COUNT: 2568 Date of submission: 07/01/2013 Q. Referring to material from the unit, critically evaluate how the passage relates to issues concerning the business activities of MNCs and the concept of ethical leadership. ‘For however strong you may be in respect of your army, it is essential that in entering a new Province you should have the good will of its inhabitants. Hence it happened that Louis XII of France, speedily gaining possession of Milan, as speedily lost it; … For the very people who had opened the gates to the French King, when they found themselves deceived in their expectations and hopes of future benefits, could not put up with the insolence of their new ruler.’ ‘I conclude, therefore, that when a prince has the goodwill of the people he must not worry about conspiracies; but when the people are hostile and regard him with hatred he must go in fear of everything and everyone. Well-organized states and wise princes have always taken great pains not to make the nobles despair, and to satisfy the people and keep them content; this is one of the most important tasks a prince must undertake.’ (Machiavelli, 1513) A. The extract from Machiavelli’s, The Prince demonstrates a strong correlation to the issues involved in the business activities of modern day MNCs and the concept of ethical leadership. According to Resick, Hanges, Dickson, & Mitcheluson (2006), analysing data from the global leadership and...

Technology Decision Making Paper

...Technology and Decision-Making Paper Allie Timbo Health Care Informatics HCS482 November 8, 2010 Richard Ong, MBA, FACHE Technology and Decision-Making Paper More than ever before, information technology is helping clinicians and health care systems improve the collection and management of data along with the ability to aid in decision–making for clinical and business issues. Information technology has led to significant improvements in quality of care, patient safety, and communication between clinicians. The key to information technology and decision-making is to develop relationships between information technology and the users to make effective decisions. Systems that support decision-making assist the user’s ability to make short and long-term decisions by providing information to make decisions concerning particular situations. Health care informatics “incorporates theories from information, science, computer science, and cognitive sciences” (Englebardt & Nelson, 2002, p. 5). Health care informatics specialists use theories, and the Data, Information, and Knowledge (DIK) Model to guide their practice, which in turn supports clinical practice and optimizes health care delivery. Systems and Informatics Theories Theories are useful in several ways. Theories form a reference point for information technology and users. Without theories users would spend time condensing information and data from empirical sources. According to John Holmes, chairperson of the American...

Haliburt

...Ethics Case Halliburton Plc. & Washington Inc.: The Power of Politics in Corporate Business Success As a general rule, correcting market failures is best left to the government. Businesses cannot be trusted to get it right, partly because they lack the wherewithal to frame intelligent policy in these areas.[i] Free-market economist Adam Smith (1723-1790) states that if self-interested people are left alone to seek their own economic advantage, the result, unintended by any one of them, will be greater advantage for all. He maintains that government interference is not necessary to protect the general welfare.[ii] MBA 8111 Business, Government, and Society Introduction Governments have become the black box for corporate business success around the world. This paper will discuss the close relationship between business and government, using Halliburton as main examples throughout the case. Halliburton has often been perceived negatively by the public and has become a favorite target by Democrats for critics about conflicts of interest, undue corporate influence, hidden motives, accounting fraud, bribery, bilking the government, tax evasion, and trading with rogue nations.[iii] Its name has become synonymous with political cronyism.[iv] The current U.S. Vice-President Dick Cheney, who previously held the CEO of Halliburton from 1995 to 2000, is criticized to facilitate the government contracts to be available to the company even though he...
