First we should get a clear view about what environmental scanning is.
Environmental scanning is 4th step of strategic management model.

…………. STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT MODEL…….. * ESTABLISH A VISION * DEFINE THE MISSION AND OBJECTIVE * ENVIRONMENTAL SCANNING * STARTEGY FORMULATION * GENERATE/EVALUATE/SELECT STRATEGY * STARTEGY IMPLEMENTATION * EVALUATION AND CONTROL

Environmental scanning is careful monitoring of an organizational internal and external environments for detecting early signs of opportunities and threats that may influence its current and future plans.in comparison surveillance is confined to a specific objective or a narrow sector. Forth stage of strategic management process is to conduct the internal and external audit in order to identify the internal strengths and weaknesses against external opportunities and threats. Following type of external scanning are to be conducted focusing on identifying and evaluating events/factors beyond the immediate control of own organization. * Political [national structure, political lobbies] * Economical [income, currency value] * Social [life style trends , demographics] * Environmental [local laws , pressure groups] * International [presence of international[world bank] * Legal[legal system] * Education * Demography
While in external analysis, three correlated environment should be studied and analyzed, * Immediate/industry environment * National environment * macro environment

To His Coy Misstress

...Thine eyes, and on thy forehead gaze; Two hundred to adore each breast, But thirty thousand to the rest; An age at least to every part, And the last age should show your heart. For, lady, you deserve this state, Nor would I love at lower rate. But at my back I always hear Time’s wingèd chariot hurrying near; And yonder all before us lie Deserts of vast eternity. Thy beauty shall no more be found; Nor, in thy marble vault, shall sound My echoing song; then worms shall try That long-preserved virginity, And your quaint honour turn to dust, And into ashes all my lust; The grave’s a fine and private place, But none, I think, do there embrace. Now therefore, while the youthful hue Sits on thy skin like morning dew, And while thy willing soul transpires At every pore with instant fires, Now let us sport us while we may, And now, like amorous birds of prey, Rather at once our time devour Than languish in his slow-chapped power. Let us roll all our strength and all Our sweetness up into one ball, And tear our pleasures with rough strife Through the iron gates of life: Thus, though we cannot make our sun Stand still, yet we will make him...

...often arose. Informal competitions started when a few truly exceptional dancers were noticed on the dance floor; the rest of the people would back off and allow the leaders to duke it out. As these informal competitions became increasingly common and popular, announced competitions became part of a night out at hip hop clubs. Whether they arose organically or they were advertised in advance, this competitive nature helped hip hop retain the "battle" culture that has existed since the beginning. This type of competition can also be seen in other dance forms, perhaps most notably in tap dancing of the early 20th century. *The Hammer Dance (Mc Hammer) MC Hammer brought rap music to the mainstream audience with his album Please Hammer Don't Hurt 'Em, the biggest-selling rap album of all time. Nwa Contact Zone

...colonialism, slavery, or their aftermath as they are lived out in many parts of the world today”(Pratt 34) by Mary Louise Pratt in her writing titled “Arts of the contact zone”. This song has been helpful and caused huge issues within the communities. The song shows the struggle that people of color go through in society and how different races portray each other based on stereotypes. NWA, which stands for Niggas With Attitude, wrote this song as a parody. I believe that they presented themselves with such vulgar because they felt like everyone saw them in a negative way. They became what the public thought they were. In doing so they caused a lot of commotion with the FBI and police. The song is from the view point of the 3 attorneys; MC Ren, Ice Cube, Eazy-E and the judge Dr. Dre. Each attorney shares their story about the struggle of being a person of color living in Compton. The first verse is by Ice Cube who mentions “and not the other color so police think/ they have the authority to kill a minority”(NWA 5). What Ice Cube is saying is that cops think because they are white, they are superior to people of color. The cops assume they have the right to kill them and abusing the authority they have. Instead of protecting the civilians, they are harming them. Later on Cube says “searching my car, looking for the product/thinking every nigga is selling narcotics/ you'd rather see, me in the pen/ than me and Lorenzo rolling in a Benz-o”(NWA 6) The police will stop these young...

...Mic Check, One-Two Suzanne Fields, the author of “Bad Raps: Music Rebels Revel in Their Thug Life” wrote her article on May 21, 2001 for insight on the news. In her article, Fields talks about how rap music has negative effects on our younger generation. She personally believes that the lyrics in these songs have a harsh effect on our youth and that it is the worst genre of music out right now. While reading, I found her opinion to be extremely biased and unfair. I also found myself disagreeing with almost every bad thing she stated about the rap genre since many other genres can have the same types of effects on younger people when they listen to them. Fields starts out her article by saying that rap music “expresses the worst kind of images” and is harmful to our younger generations. She thinks that the lyrics “employ vulgar street idioms” and are too harsh. She also states that she believes their lyrics come from “a world of broken families, absent fathers, illegitimate children and matriarchal dominance, often subsidized by welfare.” (Fields) Fields continues her argument against rap music by saying that the reason for the harsh lyrics is because language and experience of poetry and romance are absent from the lives of the rappers and their audiences. Fields personally does not know the true lives of the rappers, so she shouldn't be judging them just off of their lyrical content. Fields continues her article against rap music by using a couple facts about other singers...

...9-502-040 OCTOBER 5, 2001 DOUGLAS B. HOLT Mountain Dew: Selecting New Creative Standing at the front of a PepsiCo conference room, Bill Bruce gestured enthusiastically, pointing to the sketches at his side. Bruce, a copywriter and Executive Creative Director, headed up the creative team on the Mountain Dew account for PepsiCo’s advertising agency, BBDO New York. In fact, it was Bruce who devised the famous “Do the Dew” campaign that had catapulted Mountain Dew to the number three position in its category. With his partner, art director Doris Cassar, Bruce had developed ten new creative concepts for Mountain Dew’s 2000 advertising to present to PepsiCo management. Gathered in the room to support Bruce and Cassar were BBDO senior executives Jeff Mordos (Chief Operating Officer), Cathy Israelevitz (Senior Account Director), and Ted Sann (Chief Creative Officer). Each of the three executives had over a decade of experience working on Mountain Dew. Representing PepsiCo were Scott Moffitt (Marketing Director, Mountain Dew), Dawn Hudson (Chief Marketing Officer, and a former senior ad agency executive), and Gary Rodkin (Chief Executive Officer, Pepsi Cola North America). Scott Moffitt scribbled notes as he listened to Bruce speak. Moffitt and the brand managers under him were charged with day-to-day oversight of Mountain Dew marketing. These responsibilities included brand strategy, consumer and sales promotions, packaging, line extensions, product changes, and sponsorships....

...AECT 350 Passivhaus on a Budget http://www.greenbuildingadvisor.com/homes/passivhaus-budget The article is about Jason and Stephanie Specht’s first time having a house built for them. They wanted a builder who would satisfy them with the quality of the construction, and wound not charge too much to do so. The Specht’s chose the company Structures Design/Build to be their builders for their house. While meeting with their consultant for the first time, the consultant, Adam Cohen, asked the couple if they had any interest in Passiyhaus. The Specht’s did not know what Passiyhaus was and assumed that energy efficiency was too expensive for them. Cohen believed that if they were to create an optimized Passiyhaus design, that they could achieve the cost parity with a traditional construction. He argued that by constructing a Passiyhaus, it would not be any more expensive than constructing a house that would meet the existing energy codes. The articile states that “it is the idea that a builder can leverage their knowledge and experience to produce a Passiyhaus at a price equal to standard construction, if the energy costs are included in the calculation.” It also states that the additional costs of the Passiyhaus construction ends up paying for itself through the savings in the monthly utility bill. The Spechts’ agreed on the idea of designing a Passiyhaus. As the building process began, The Specht’s continued with their research on the Passiyhaus design. They found that the Passiyhaus...

...Airmass : Meaning and Characteristics “An air mass may be defined as a large body of air whose physical properties, especially temperature, moisture content, and lapse rate, are more or less uniform horizontally for hundreds of kilometres.” According to A N Strahler and A. H. Strahler: “a body of air in which the upward gradients of temperature and moisture are fairly uniform over a large area is known as an air mass.” * An air mass may be so extensive that it may cover a large portion of a continent and it may be so thick in vertical dimension that it may vertically extend through the troposphere. An air mass is designated as cold air mass when its temperature is lower than the underlying surface while an air mass is termed warm air mass when its temperature is higher than the underlying surface. * The boundary between two different air masses is called front. Source Regions * The extensive areas over which air masses originate or form are called surface regions whose nature and properties largely determine the temperature and moisture characteristics of air masses. * An ideal source region of air mass must possess the following essential conditions: * There must be extensive and homogenous earth's surface so that it may possess uniform temperature and moisture conditions * There should not be convergence of air; rather there should be divergence of air flow so that the air may attain the physical properties of the region...

Art of Sleeping

...Art of sleeping The success of Art of sleeping is yet to reach its peak but has significantly increased in the past year with the success of their new EP ‘Like A Thief’. Art Of Sleeping were recently signed with Dew Process and exploded into high rotation on Triple J with ‘Empty Hands’, their immensely personal and cinematic single. This emotive brand of indie-rock has been the trend du jour of 2012 and probably has been since the rise of Boy & Bear, Matt Corby and The Medics; so Art Of Sleeping hit at exactly the right time. The bands new EP reached Top 100 ARIA Chart debut and an invitation to partake in an Official ARIA Showcase next month. This is the first release to chart for Brisbane group. Prior to the release of Like A Thief, the band had released several singles that picked up significant radio play on Triple J. And also recently completed a national tour called Above the water prior to the EP’s release which included special guest tigertown. They also went on tour with Paper Kites as a supporting act, performed at Big Sound 2012 and Fat As Butter 2012. National touring came with these hits, more exposure, more support. Still, success took the band completely by surprise. Since they were notified that ‘Empty Hands’ was added to triple j, the band haven’t really stopped. The Band will also be going on its Like a thief tour down the east coast of Australia starting in there home town of Brisbane at The Zoo. Sydney will be the next in line, where Art of Sleeping...

Humidity

...What is Humidity?? * Humidity is the state of atmosphere in relation to amount of water vapor it contains. Humidity is closely related to its temperature – higher the air temperature, more vapor the air can hold. * For this reason, saturation vapor pressure (ew) goes up with air temperature; i.e., as temperature goes up ew also goes up. Significance of Humidity The amount of water vapor in air effectively controls the weather condition by controlling evapotranspiration from land and water surfaces. Evaporation rate is proportional to difference between saturated vapor pressure at water temperature (ew) and actual vapor pressure in air (ea). EL = C (ew – ea), Where, EL is lake evaporation rate, C is a constant of proportionality. Causes of Humidity Molecules of water having sufficient kinetic energy to overcome attractive forces tending to hold them within the body of liquid water are projected through the water surface into the air. The process by which liquid water is converted into vapor is called vaporization or evaporation. Since the kinetic energy increases and surface tension decrease as temperature rises, evaporation rate increases with temperature. Most of the atmospheric vapor is the product of evaporation from water surfaces. The direct transformation from ice to vapor, and vice versa, is called sublimation. The process by which vapor changes to the liquid or solid state is called condensation. Properties of Water Vapor The partial pressure exerted by water...

Mountain Dew

...America, the company had three divisions, each with category-leading brands. Pepsi and Mountain Dew were the number two and three soft drinks. Frito-Lay dominated the salty-snack category with Ruffles, Lay's, Doritos, and Cheetos. And the company had recently acquired Tropicana, the leading juice brand. In 2000, PepsiCo had acquired the SoBe line of teas and "functional" drinks from South Beach Beverages, which it operated as a stand-alone subsidiary Mountain Dew had carried PepsiCo's soft drink revenues during the 1990s as cola brands struggled. But now the Do the Dew campaign( the famous "Do the Dew" campaign that had catapulted Mountain Dew to the number three position in its category) was entering its eighth year, a long stretch by any consumer goods baseline. Many other brands were now sponsoring the same alternative sports that Mountain Dew had relied upon to boost its image. Teens were also gravitating to new activities and new music that Dew's competitors had successfully exploited in their branding activities. Figuring out how to keep the campaign working hard to maintain the brand's relevance with its target consumers had become a chief preoccupation of senior management at both PepsiCo and BBDO. At the same time, key competitors were raising their ad budgets as competition in both the Carbonated Soft Drink (CSD) and non-carbonated drinks categories was heating up, sending Dew sales below targets. Choosing the right ads to maximize the impact of Mountain Dew's relatively...
