In January 2008 a British journalist, Sarfraz Manzoor, wrote an article with the title “Me, Me, Me” that appeared in the magazine “Esquire”. He gives his opinion on how the phenomenon “New Narcissism” has its influences on today’s society through the Internet. And he leaves us with the impression that there is a reason to be worried about today's youth being more narcissistic than ever before.

Narcissism is not new for us. New Narcissism is a modern version of the phenomenon narcissism. And it has been known since ancient Greece with the Greek myth about Narcissus that fell in love with his own reflection in the water. The man that got narcissism recognized as a medical condition was Sigmund Freud (l. 53). But in our age, the word, narcissism, does not seem that serious and is mostly defined as a phenomenon. This New Narcissism has come to life because society reproduces itself (l. 59). And growing numbers of people are more narcissistic according to a study performed by psychologists. Sarfraz Manzoor, who has written this article, describes that New Narcissism is the offspring of today’s society. He makes an example by including a person named Chris Crocker. Crocker became famous because he put a video on the Internet where he defended the celebrity Britney Spears. There can be two reasons for his behaviour. Is he doing this to tell people that they shall back off and because he is fond of her? Or is he doing this to get attention? But it does not seem as if Britney is the main focus. It is the Britney-obsessive Crocker who draws your attention. Chris Crocker is like a sick howling animal “leave Britney alone!” (l. 9) into a camera. This quote has made him so popular on the website, YouTube, that people from all over the world have watched the video more than 12 million times (l. 23) – today 41,6 million times. But Crocker did not feel sorry for Britney, he just wanted to get a lot of attention and become a celebrity himself. He got his 2 minutes and 12 seconds of fame and a few days later Chris Crocker announced, he was in the process of making a new reality show on national television (l. 17-19). This is a great example of new narcissism, Chris Crocker intentionally tries to get attention on Britney’s account, a very selfish and egocentric act and that is what new narcissism is all about. But the reason that nobody dismissed him as being crazy is due to the fact that he is a victim of the paradoxical development of our modern culture where everybody wants to be famous. He is a product of society. Manzoor makes a parallel reflection to the myth of Narcissus, stating that Crocker “is holding up a mirror to ourselves.” (l. 119), because Chris Crocker thinks that his simple opinion is something the world ought to know.
Sarfraz Manzoor is using a very strong ethos throughout the article. He presents several experts like Sigmund Freud, the father of physiology, professor Jean Twenge and his San Diego State University study, social critic Christopher Lasch, plastic surgeon Dr. Maurizio, author Simon Crompton, managing director of Greg Hodge and author Andrew Keen. He uses all these experts in a very professional way. At first, he builds up his point, and then supports it with the expert. For example when Manzoor introduces the social networking sites as part of the problem. He starts with statements from managing director of the highly controversial dating-site (l. 74-75), where he focuses on the members’ need for validation, and then Manzoor backs it up with statistics of how many people use blogs and videos. He also mentions an article from Times Magazine that has announced that the “person of the year” was “you” (l. 83). And this is exactly the point that Manzoor gets. He disagrees with Times Magazine, because it seems as if they are making positive spin with this narcissistic title, as Sarfraz Manzoor states “What Time neglected to mention was that most of the internet content comprising the “Information Age” is bollocks” (l. 85-86). Manzoor does not like that bloggers, users of Facebook, MySpace and Tweeter are all focusing on the same subject: telling about him or herself (l. 89-90). And because of this, he is worried. He uses logos; when he is saying that no own but themselves want to hear about what they had for breakfast (l. 61) or what they did at the last party just like the celebrities. He is talking to people’s common sense that other people are not interested.
Returning to Chris Crocker and Britney Spears, Manzoor is using pathos. He describes Britney Spears’ attempted comeback in sympathy with this failed performer (p. 1, l. 15). And then he goes on to describe Crocker. Sarfraz Mazoor uses very prejudiced adverbs to describe his video, such as “horribly, gruesomely and shamefully compulsive viewing” (l. 15). The reason for this comment could be due to the fact that he sees it as a bad thing that Crocker is trying to take advantage of Britney’s bad situation. And because of this he describes Crocker as “attention-seeking, internet-enabled and celebrity-crazed” (l. 114). He paints a dramatic image of Chris Crocker; “he howls into the ether, tears streaming down his mascara-smudged face.”(l. 9). This stands in sharp contrast to the very well reasoned and factual tone used in the rest of the article.

Narcissism is when you only think of yourself and your own needs – exclusively. It is when you are so self-obsessed that you are unable to see anything else but your own reflection. But the New Narcissism means that people today are willing to do anything to achieve fame and attention for their own benefits. Sarfraz Mazoor’s main point is that, with New Narcissism being at centre stage in our culture, we all believe that we are the single most interesting person in the world. The key role that Chris Crocker has in Sarfraz Manzoor ‘s main argument is highlighted by the use of pathos when describes Chris Crocker, and almost exclusively ethos to back it up. This gives the argument all the drama of pathos, yet all the credibility of ethos. He then concludes that Chris Crocker is, after all, just reflecting back the culture that produced him, which is they key point: That a narcissistic society turns us all into Chris Crockers.

...“The difficulty in life is the choice”, 1 100% agree with this quote George Moore indeed would have gotten a vote from me when it came to come true this actually is. To explain his quote in other words; he’s stating the hardships and difficultly in life can most likely be avoided , you step into it and enhance it more that’s where the difficulty comes in which in some many ways could have probably be avoided . The book “Twelve Angry Men” by Reginald Roses is definitely a prime example of chosen difficulty when in many ways it could have been avoided. The teenager in the book “Twelve Angry Men” was on trial for the manslaughter of his own father. In my opinion that teen was all the way guilty. But majority of the 12 jurors saw him as innocent. Some pledged his innocence by justifying the manslaughter by saying he was “ a product of his environment” , claiming the boy grew up in the slums , had it bad all his life , from the robbing’s to the car theft even the stabbing his was involved in with another teen. But let’s be real it wasn’t mandatory for this teen to do those things. In all reality that young boy did those wrong doing himself all by his lonesome. Of course probably his environment gave him ideas and the thoughts in his head, but let’s thinks did the environment put the knife in his hand and forced him to kill his father? No right, so why the environment is the one to blame when it came to this boy reasons for killing his own father? No one lead him down the path of...

Be Me.

...licked my head, takes control of my head from a distant, glass reflection. I finally make my way toward the cold, bare bathroom. Recovered, I find myself looking into the lifeless reflection to prepare for another unstable day. To start, I set my hands to find the light switch which seems to avoid me. Light glaring into my poor, unaware pupils, I set my hands in warm-filled water. I bring my face alongside the running, sincere water. After hydration, I attempt to clear out the cow-licked hair-do; I reach for my sturdy, black comb and combat the cow’s drool! With no avail, I soon give up. I place my index finger on the power button of the high-powered, blue electric-shaver and trim the fur that guards my face from fierce colds. Next, I prime my toothbrush with invigorating, peppermint toothpaste and smoothly graze each special tooth. I then enrich my essence with refined, colorful fragrances. Widely awake, I dash toward the fridge and explore its contents. A glass of cold milk and protein bars fill me. The cocoa aroma of the breakfast bars surrounds me. I adore the refreshingly, cold liquid and chocolaty sweetness of the bars. After finishing my feast, a text from a classmate notifies me to leave for school. Soon after leaving my house, I started my silver Cadillac then drove to pick up a classmate and head to class together. Finally, we arrive at school just to find no available parking. Irritated by no available space, I realize that I’m going to be late to class. I’m......

Not Into Me come ,but took me as a surprise. See derrick is very special; his is those kinds of guys you absolutely feel attached to because they are gentle and caring, and make up for amazing friend. However, he was not the only one there his “friends” arrived to. I decided to just ignore that and jump to the 3ft high colled water pool I felt a chilling sensation while I hit the bottom of the pool and out of the sudden I started to feel fresh, a little confused but more alive than ever. The pool just awoke this feeling of being reborn, though I was still myself. When I decided to get out up me chilling water was washing out my visage, and that’s when I caught eye of him, It was like being in a drought and suddenly felling the raindrops. He definitely looked differently, I wasn’t sure of what but it made smirk. We both made eyed contact , he for sure saw me the same way, he couldn’t stop smiling but what was I doying, really derrick he was just a friend, no, he definitely dint feel like a friend anymore there was something more to this. It felt exciting and I wanted to know more about this moving emotion. I decided to get out of the water and seek help, to the only girl I know is an expert on this kinds o f situations, Unabella. When I got to her, was kind in a hurry but I told her to help me, she agreed wit h the condition that I’d gave my beautiful coral sandals in order to talk to her boyfriend. ... But for the older group of sports fanatics and people who are looking for a cold one with the boys or with the gals, tagging on the phrase "Wings, Beer, and your favorite sports". We will use these different phrases with the places that we are going to advertise to these specific targets, which we will get to next. The first type of media we are going to use is event sponsorship to reach to sports fanatics and older men and women. Year around there are bowling leagues and softball leagues and soccer leagues that need to have team sponsors in order to pay for their equipment. This would be a perfect way to get our logo on a jersey and to promote coming to hang out after the game. I know that if I was sponsored by Buffalo Wild Wings that me and the boys would head to our sponsors place after the game. My personal favorite that we are going to do is our support media outdoor signage on route 24 targeting the flowing traffic coming from Fort Wayne, IN and Toledo, OH. There are going to be ten signs involved, five coming from either direction. One sign will be placed at the 69-24 loop and the other placed at the 75-24 loop just stating the Buffalo Wild Wings logo and promotion for Defiance, OH....

...could do with music the way the seemingly subtle change of one thing could completely change the entire experience, emotion, and message that existed within a piece of music. High school is where I truly blossomed as musician. As a freshman, I began playing in the jazz band (which developed into my favorite style to play), I made first chair in the symphonic band over three seniors and a junior, I began learning how to play the bassoon, and I began to teach myself piano and guitar. Currently, I play alto saxophone, bassoon, clarinet, piano, and guitar. Being drum major has given me an experience that is like no other; I get to lead 141 other students every day, and I get to share this love of music with them and create something that will be left as legacy as new and old traditions and processes are passed down through years of students. It is all this history—all this personal expansion—that has lead me into wanting to continue my musical education and to be able to pass the art of music down to generations to come....

...the speed at which the reaction took place. And that’s kind of important. Was our experiment well-conducted? Processing issues? For a few high-schoolers with no training or clue as to what they were doing, I’d say we met expectations. True, the lab itself proved to be inaccurate. But hey-- at least we had some data, and came up with conclusions of some kind. Some were not so lucky. Individual issues have been addressed several times-- namely the fact that the reaction itself took place over a much longer time than was necessary, making the temperature change much more gradual than we could have hoped; our max value was a lot lower than what I feel it would have been had we performed correctly. If I could run this experiment again, let me tell you exactly how things would go down. First, I’d use the most precise balance in the room, as compared to the one nearest my desk. Second, I’d first measure out my 50mL of HCl in a graduated cylinder before allowing it to react with the NaCl; better accuracy is better accuracy. We also clearly had time to run more than one trial, if our first one was so badly screwed up and yet we still came out with a final conclusion. Therefore, we should have run 2-3 in total. If one were to reproduce our results, they would have to screw up pretty badly in their experiment. The experiment itself isn’t that impossible to reproduce if done correctly, although it would be wise to add the part about catalyzing the reaction (as well as giving a......

Dont Be Me Be Better Than Me

...Cortney S. Grissom Dr. Cherry 2013FA-ENGL-1301-71036: Composition 1 29 October 2013 Be Better Than Me My grandfather Earsery told me before he died, "Cortney, don’t be like me, be better than me!" that comment struck me as strange, as I was simply walking into the kitchen to get tall glass of lemonade paying my grandfather no attention. I later on heard another father figure in Carl Gant utter similar words to me as I worked alongside him in my professional life. Years have passed since these events occurred; however, as I continue to grow as an adult and man, I know now those words represent a gift of both wisdom and warning. During my upbringing in Louisiana I was taught that carrying the surname “Grissom” carried a certain amount of responsibility. A Grissom, isn’t allowed to say “fo” in place of the word “four”, nor is a Grissom allowed to present oneself in any way that would shame the family. Some family members felt the standards of my grandfather where too high, but I had no problem keeping up with the rules and regulations of life in a military home. Looking back on my teenage years, I’ve come to realize my granddad was a sculpture and I was a rough natural stone that would one day be his masterpiece to carry on the name “Grissom”. A trip to the gas station would become a exercise in memory recall, “What color was the shirt of the gas station worker?” or “How many buttons were undone on that woman’s blouse behind you in line?”, my grandfather would ask...

Feel Me

...Feel me. It wasn’t the same as before and it would not be happening again, ever. It’s funny to think that we had been strangers before; during and after the love game we used to have. It had taken me months to get over with it because I thought I couldn’t replace you. But then I know I’m wrong. You don’t deserve me. I deserve someone much, much better, someone who’ll not make me feel like I was the worst girl ever, someone who can respect me and someone who is sensitive to my feelings. He’ll never hurt me like you do, compare me to other girls and move on so fast in just a snap of the wind. I had tried fixing those broken friendship that we had built a long time ago. But things aren’t agreeing on my side. I just want to be your friend and go back to those days that we are so close to each other without any malice. But then you’re the one who’s making this hard for us. I don’t know where your cruelty had begun and I don’t know when it will end. I don’t even know the reason behind your unmanly ways. I’m trying to start a conversation but then you started calling me nonsense. I was devastated because I never heard you say that to me once upon a time. And then I realize, I just don’t know you at all. Vice-versa. I don’t know why and I don’t know how but I want to regret everything we once had. The notebook, planters, crown pendant, brownies, cookies, my princess, etc. now I realize, it’s all a joke. You used me but then I had become so blind, I was blinded by the light of love...

Religion to Me

...Religion to me is a part of everyday life. The decisions and judgments I make on a day-to-day basis are created based upon my upbringing and what religion I was taught being raised as a child, which is what was instilled in my parents from their parents and so on. I was raised Catholic and try my very best to attend Church on a weekly to monthly basis. I went through the ranks having been Baptized, First communized and Confirmed. I don’t consider myself a “religious” person in the sense that I am an avid member of the church, but I do believe there is a being that exists that looks over us. I think it’s important to have religious beliefs because in a time of need or desperation, there is a supreme being that you can instill your faith in and ask for help when needed. For me, Religion officially kicked in and made me a little bit more faithful during my time in the United States Air Force. From Basic training to deployments on the front line, Religion was something that gave me solace during concern and fear. Basic training was so in your face that on Sunday’s the military gave you some time for you to escape a few hours each day from the constant stresses the Training can provide. Sundays were a day that you looked forward to and each an every day, the harder you pressed on, the closer you were to a few measly hours of peace and quiet away from the Technical Instructors that wanted to make your life unbearable. Religion offered me a time then, to get closer in......

Writing and Me

...All about me, me and me Woosh. Woosh. Woosh. The fan spins in my excessively hot room. Sweat is dripping off my forehead and I feel like I might pass outtttttttttttttttttttt. Sorry just did right there. Oh fuck! I have to finish this essay tonight and what do I have? Zero inspiration to write something that’s all about me. It seems really easy but damn, my writer’s block is really kicking in. The heat is killing me. I’m sitting in my my room with a refreshing glass of water with two ice cubes, not crushed ice, I hate that shit. I mean why would you want crushed? The pieces are so small you’ll just start to swallow ice. I also have some bad for you poisonous shit chips to my left, but they taste soooo good. I’m listening and singing to some of Coldplay’s great hits on my small little amp. The most notable songs that catch my attention at the moment are: Viva La Vida, Lovers In Japan and Strawberry Swing. Sometimes I try to imagine that there is a strawberry swing on a rolling green hill with the markings of a strawberry on the wood seat of the swing. I love to put myself in the image of what the singer is describing. The lyrics are paint on the canvas of my mind. Thinking about being in someone’s song comforts me. Songs help me get through writing this difficult essay that I wish I weren’t doing at the moment. Wow! I’m almost at two pages. Don’t quit now. Damn. Game of Thrones is on my television. Founding Me

...Discovering Me Many individuals believe that higher education allows us to find ourselves. We have four decades to comprehend how to make a effective document, to give an dental demonstration without defect, and have the self-discipline and stamina needed to hold up against a two time last examination. With a durable education and learning, we are able to overcome the important globe, to flourish with the information we have carefully drilled into our thoughts. But what do these factors educate us about ourselves, and what do these factors really help us with in the lifestyle that follows after college? In lifestyle do we need to comprehend alliterative line, or the distinction between quadratic equations and mean, average, or mode? These is needed, and this information crucial to know, but do they really allow us simply walking away from higher education with a real knowing of ourselves? Cultural research modify the methods in which we perspective education and learning. The energy behind learning about competition and competition is that the college student is needed to know themselves, before they can start to comprehend others. Cultural research smashes down the surfaces to train and learning, and instills in the learners a sensation of personality that will speak out loud for many decades following higher education. About Me

...from Ardmore OK. I lived there till I was about four years old. My mother moved us to Vermont to take care of my grandmother and grandfather. My mother then married a man who adopted me when I was seven years old. In second grade I had a teacher who saw me asking for help on a spelling test and said it was cheating and told my parents he was going to hold me back a grade. He said I was slow and needed special help. My parent thought it would be a good idea to put me in Justin Morgan Christian School. They did not have the best learning program in that school. We sat in a cubby all day long looking at the wall. When we had a question we had to put an American flag on the top of the cubby. For the bathroom we put up the Christian flag. We worked in what they called “paces” You worked in them all day long they had a book for math, science, English, and so on. Each year you went up in a “pace book” the higher you got in school. That kind of learning did not work for me. So at the end of my sixth grade year I asked my parents if I could go to a Public School. So in 7th grade I went to a high school in my home town. I was so far behind when I got in class I didn’t know how to really do anything in my classes my first year, so when I went to 8th grade they put me in all special classes. I was really hard for me to have to go to a one on one class room when my friends and class mates went to regular classes. I graduated in 2004 with pretty good grades.
