Stereotypes In Mean Girls

...are some things that we hold to a higher standard than other. These include appearance, employment and socioeconomic status to name a few. Although disheartening, some believe they cannot achieve everything they deserve without some if not all of these attributes. This tends to be true for adolescence who have been brought up by these ideals. The film Mean Girls directed by Mark Waters, makes it clear that popularity and appearance is all that teenage girls need to get ahead. That females who have these characteristics will ultimately succeed in life. Not only does that give a false hope to those watching the film, but it emphasizes the effect of bullying that is shown throughout the film. Cady Heron, played by Lindsay Lohan, moves to Illinois after being in Africa for twelve years with her parents who are in the zoology field of work. Cady is taken by surprise by public school life after being home schooled and meets up with Janis Ian and Damian who are more of the social outcasts and into theater and art. Cady is...

Stereotypes In Mean Girls

...Mean Girls (2004) Mean girls 2004, was directed by Mark Waters. Based of a book by Rosalind Wiseman “Queen Bees and Wannabes” and screenplay by Tina Fey. The movie was first developed by Tina Fey, calling Saturday Night Live’s producer Lorne Michaels to suggest Queen Bees and Wannabes if it could be turned into a film. Borrowing elements from the book, she then rewrote the plot from her own high school experience. Lindsay Lohan first read Regina George’s line but the casting team felt like she was more fitting into their Cady’s character and that it would harm her reputation at that time. Rachel McAdams was casted because Tina Fey felt her being “kind and polite made her perfect for an evil-spirited character. Amanda Seyfried also read lines for Regina’s role but the producers suggested her for Karen due to her “spacey and silly sense of humor”. Lacey Chabert and...

What Are The Stereotypes In Mean Girls

...We have all seen the movie Mean Girls, directed by Mark Waters. The film delves into the life of a modern high school student and the timeless stereotypes. Today’s society idealizes “popularity” to the point where it is unhealthy. If we don’t conform to the mold of a seemingly perfect person, we are marked as outcasts. Everyone wants that feeling of belonging and are willing to sacrifice who they are in order to obtain it. “The most hated young woman in America is a blonde — well, sometimes a redhead or a brunette, but usually a blond. She has big hair flipped into a swirl of gold at one side of her face or arrayed in a sultry mane, like the magnificent piles of a forties movie star.” (High-School Confidential Page 819-824, David Denby)....

Stereotypes In Mean Girls, Clueless, And The Breakfast Club

...Teen films may characterize the female adolescents by having their personalities and story-lines directly reflect the film setting’s era and culture. In comparing Mean Girls (2004), Clueless (1995), and The Breakfast Club (1985), together, these films demonstrate and exemplify how the film industry has been influenced and altered by time, culture, and society in their portrayal of teenaged girls over the past 30 years. The Breakfast Club (1985) is a cinematic view on the struggles of adolescence wherein five troubled teenagers with adversely differing personalities spend a Saturday in detention and eventually grow to confess their fears and secrets and find their true selves outside their segregated stereotypes. Claire Standish is a spoiled,...

Mean Movie

...Mean Movie By Elton James Y. Gagni A typical movie about girls getting eaten by their own insecurities; that is what Mean Girls is all about. One minute you’re best friends and the next thing you know, you’re worst enemies. Released on the 4th of May year 2004 and adapted from the book written by Rosalind Wiseman, Director Mark Waters gives us a movie that shows how a home-schooled girl becomes a plastic in the most twisted way. The story, plot and dialogues were pretty easy to understand since it was made to show the life of teenagers in a twisted way. I did not lose my interest while watching the movie for the simple reason that the presentation of the conflicts from one character to the next and how these conflicts would end up being tied together making one whole mess in the end. Although it was exaggeratedly presented, it was still believable because this shows one aspect of a girl’s life where she forms a group and gossip about how they hate people and would only dream of having such chaotic confrontation as that of the movie. As expected, the movie used many gender stereotypes especially on women since the movie title already implies of such. Unfortunately, it did not break any gender stereotype thus; it ended up taking those stereotypes to a whole new level. The director’s touch is obviously seen since the whole movie made use of close-ups, if not extreme close-ups, and a lot of point-of-view shots. These shots helped a lot to show character development especially...

Mean Girls Sociology

...“it” girls are all groups that we automatically and exclusively associate with a high school environment; how many times have we stopped to consider where these segregated cliques originated or the purpose of their existence in our society? In the 2007 film, Mean Girls, the directors portrayed a comedic overrepresentation of these specialized groups in a way that actually raises a myriad of sociological questions regarding the inner workings of high school social behavior. Taking a closer look at this satirical, lighthearted movie can provide a sufficient amount of insight about how social fact and the social construction of reality dictate our behavior and our perspectives on society and the roles we play in it. I should start by explaining...

Beauty

...When people hear the word beautiful, they think about a beautiful woman. American society says that women should have perfect hourglass figure, be a size six or smaller yet a have a larger set of breasts and a big butt. A perfect example of this type of girl is Pamela Anderson. American society also says that men should have a perfect jaw-line, have perfect triceps, a rock solid six-pack and be six feet tall. Women that don’t have size six waists or smaller often feel insecure about them, and have low self-esteem. Men who aren’t six feet tall with a perfect body frequently suffer from low self-esteem. Men and women that do have the perfect body are considered beautiful and are worshiped. A perfect example of this kind of man is Chris Hemsworth. People who only care about external beauty called are superficial. Sometimes beauty is only skin deep. There are some people that have a calm, loving heart and they are called beautiful. Every now and then people with external beautiful also have a beautiful heart as well. Angeline Jolie not only has a beautiful heart but also is beautiful on the outside. Although, someone may be beautiful on the outside, but the have an ugly personality, like Regina George from The movie Mean Girls. Too often the most beautiful people have a cruel or selfish heart, but there are the few exceptions, like Cady Heron from The movie...

...asdffsThis is a quote that I first heard in Barbie as the Princess and the Pauper. A quote that I first read from William Shakespeare’s, Hamlet. A quote that I am trying to live by. A quote that definitely changed my view in life. The society, today, tends to stereotype people and categorize them into groups such as “The socialites”, “The mean girls”, “The rich kids”, “The smart ass”, “The rebels”, “The geeks”, “The jocks”, “The wannabe’s”, “The emo’s”, “The skaters”, “The dorks”, etc. This happens most with the teens and young adults. Of course, there wouldn’t be a problem if you are categorized as a mean girl or a jock or a smart ass, those are pretty good titles (when you’re in a school campus). But what about the kids that were categorized as the emo’s or the dorks and the wannabe’s? Two things can happen: First: They will think that they aren’t good enough and are not worthy of any attention at all. They will be insecure and will think lowly of themselves. They will either, stay the way they are and would not do anything to be better. They will be growing up with lots of insecurities and/or kill themselves. Second: They will try to fit in. They will change their way of living and be that someone, supposedly “a mean girl”, and try to live like them, with their ways, their looks, the way they walk, the way they talk and even the way they dress. They would not act as themselves anymore. Just to be part of a better social group. Sucks, yes? I have seen this for so many times...

Analysis of Mean Girls

...that is her high school. On Caddy’s first day of school at a regular high school after being homeschooled her entire life she realizes how closely people’s behaviours resemble that of animals in the jungle. Many people can relate to the way she felt entering this new world as everyone has been in such a situation. Perhaps not to this extreme but I was once the new girl desperately trying to find my place in a new atmosphere. Caddy’s journey can also be related to recent recruits adapting to a new work environment, unknown to how things regularly go about. One of my jobs provided me with an outline of normal office habits; casual Fridays, on birthdays there are potlucks, the outline even provided me with some of the regular office language, short forms for certain documents, etc. This was a map to help me familiarize myself and integrate with greater ease. Unfortunately Caddy did not have this luxury, as many people don’t. She is forced to figure it out for herself. This hardship of adapting can easily lead us to not portraying our true selves to potentially avoid being shunned as an outsider. There are many stereotypes integrated into the movie. When Caddy is introduced as a new student from Africa the teacher welcomes an American black student instead of her. People easily believe her when she tells them that in Africa everyone can read Swedish, which portrays the ignorance of her fellow students and they’re ignorance regarding other cultures. People are unfamiliar with Caddy’s...

Test

...Test Lindsay Lohan may have some expensive bling, but the Komofie & Co. gold necklace she allegedly stole last month is not all that, her attorney claims. Four days after the 24-year-old "Mean Girls" star pleaded not guilty to stealing a chain from a Venice, Calif. boutique on Jan. 22, her lawyer says the necklace isn't worth anywhere near the $2,500 the store was asking for. Various Los Angeles jewelers have appraised the one-of-a-kind piece Lohan is alleged to have taken at between $800 and $1,000,  TMZ.com reported. "It seems to me that the appropriate charge, based on the fair market value of the goods, should have been petty theft and not grand theft," LiLo's lawyer, Shawn Holley, told the gossip website. A petty theft charge is punishable by six months in jail, a much lighter sentence than the 3-1/2 years Lohan could face if convicted of grand theft.                                                                   Holley added, however, than whatever the value of the jewelry she still intends to show “Ms. Lohan didn't steal anything." Though the one-time Disney starlet claimed she was loaned the necklace, jeweler Geoff Kaman and his wife reported it stolen after pictures surfaced of Lohan wearing it. Upon hearing she was under investigation, LiLo turned the necklace over to cops. "i would never steal, in case people are wondering. I was not raised to lie, cheat, or steal," she wrote on her new Facebook page Thursday. Lohan was released on $40,000 bail...

Rite Of Passage Theory In Mean Girls

Cady, the new girl from Africa, is thrown into this new world of high school in America where she is forced to find who she really is in order to fit into this new environment. This journey of self-acceptance by Cady and many others can be analyzed through theories of ritual and text found in Religion: The Basics by Malory Nye. In this essay I will argue that Cady Heron and others, like the Plastics all go through a journey in order to full fil the message of the film, that happiness and peace come from being yourself and accepting yourself not from being someone you are not. Bullying

...Using humorous figures for an anti-bullying campaign wont work because no one will take it seriously At one point in our lives we have had our disagreements with friends. It might have gone as far as getting kicked out of a group. Its not fun being left out. Any form of bullying is not fun. Bullying has been around for ages. As longs as its been around you would have thought there would be a cure for it. If no one likes mean people, why are people so mean? Do we only pretend not to like mean people? This problem has escalated over the years, and has become more prevalent with todays technology. An example of this is seen in the scene of the movie Carrie. Carrie was a religious girl who was sheltered from wordly things. She did not know what her period was. She was taking a shower in the schools locker room when it happned. She ran over to the other girls screaming and crying. They then began to throw tampons at her. The leader of the group then began to record it and put it on youtube. The video was labled Bloody Mary. This resulted in the girl being banned from prom. On prom night she swiched the ballots so it looked liked Carrie and another boy were king and queen. When Carrie took her position on stage they poured pigs blood on her from a bucket hanging above her. They then started to play the video. Carrie took out her embarrassment and anger through her telekinesis. She then killed most of her classmates including her mother and herself. There is another incident...
