What is meant by the media convergence with regard to technology, and how has it affected everyday life?
This is defined as a process of combining telecommunications and computers thus making them into one form. It seems like everyone has a smart phone that can literally be a mini computer that fits into the palm of their hand. With the advancement of technology you can stay in the comfort of your own home and watch television, listen to music, shop, go to school, and work without leaving the comfort of your home. Using either a computer or your smart phone you can communicate with friends and family online so you don’t have to write a letter and it will get there instantly. This has defiantly changed the way that people communicate with one another on an everyday basis; when my daughter has something to do after school she just sends me a quick text to let me know what is going on, when talking to my family, we usually talk on Facebook because it is right there and doesn’t cost a long distance phone call and we can share things instantly. I think that in so many ways technology has made things so much easier to keep in touch with the things that are going on in the world, when important things happen you can know almost as soon as it does.

What are some of the issues that result from dependency on modern media? Describe at least three issues.
Some of the issues that stem for depending on modern media so much is the loss of human interaction; we have to be exposed to other people to have the ability to communicate effectively with one another, it is also instrumental in the development of a person. Next, is the way that one looks at themselves, their personal worth, as it was stated in chapter two advertisers give certain things a desired effect so people want to have those products. We overly depend on advertisements that are run so that we know what is new, so that we can try it even if we can’t afford it. Last, is the pure propaganda that is all over all types of media that we depend on to give us the unbiased view on things that are going on in the world. We depend so much on media to tell us how we should feel, how we should vote, and what we should think because we can’t verify the reports on our own. I know that I watch my news every night to see what is going on, and I want to make sure that I have all the facts before making a decision, and having so many conflicting views all over make it very difficult.

How does media literacy help with responsible media consumption?
Knowing what you are seeing, hearing, or reading knowing how to access, analyze, and evaluate everything in the media is the right step to help with responsible media consumption. When you have all of the proper tools, then you know how to pick apart the media to find the truth and not all of the other stuff that is piled on it. It also is important that we teach our children media literacy, so that they are aware that not everything that you see on television or read online is necessarily the truth; there might be some truth in it, but knowing how to cut through the crap is very important. I feel that it is equally important that the media needs to remain natural when they report the news, due to the fact that many people don’t have the knowledge to be media literate.

Media Analysis

...I survived, and after 24 hours I am not at all ashamed to review my results. Everywhere I go, media surrounds me; at home, school and most definitely at my workplace. I spent a day this past weekend in a state of isolation. It was difficult to ignore all facets of media, and find other activities to substitute them. I felt alone, bored, out of the loop, and tired. My dependence on media is strong, and I felt as if there were a piece of myself missing. To be more specific, the use of media technology is one aspect that ties my family together. We rely on constant communication for safety purposes. My parents, siblings, and I are on opposite schedules, so it is very important to make sure we keep in contact and update one another. What I missed the most was having my iPhone in hand. I really missed listening to a voicemail from my mom telling me to have a great day, or receiving a text message every twenty minutes from my sister, blabbing on about something cute our cat just did. I use media not only for communication with family members, but also as a hobby of mine. One of my favorite past-times is working with media technology to create works of art. I focus a lot of my attention to all different aspects of media communication and apply it with my artistic ability to put together videos. My main ideas develop from the local news stations, movies, and magazines. The media plays a...

...accountability and responsibility of the policy-makers. All these have also become central to establishing sustainable development. Based on the concept of transparency, one significant development that took place in the late 1990’s in Thailand was the promulgation of an Information Act. This Act, which stipulates the openness to the public of information in the possession of state agencies, clearly underpins the universally held concept of the right to know of the people. It has taken quite some time before the public, or even the government officials who are in possession of information, could adequately understand the necessity of information disclosure. Therefore, it was expected from the beginning that it would be the duty of the media to bring this new concept to the attention of the society. To...

Effectice Communication in Crisis

...pre-crisis, to establish notification systems that will allow you to rapidly reach your intended audience using multiple modalities. The Virginia Tech campus shooting catastrophe, where email was the sole means of alerting students initially, proves that using any single modality can make a crisis worse. Some of us may be on email constantly, others not so. Some of us receive our cellphone calls or messages quickly, some not. If you use more than one modality to reach your stakeholders, the chances are much greater that the message will go through. (Bernstein, 2013) To have effective communication in time of crisis, our organization has implemented plans that allow us to effectively deal with the situation, the media and those that are effected. With the use of all forms of media, as well as documented known conditions we hold a strong belief that we can correct this current situation. It has come to the attention of the county and this office of the Emergency Management that an unidentified contaminate has leaked into the local water reserves. ...Communication Vol. 4, No. 4, November 2011, pp. 246Á251 (Re)conceptualizing Intercultural Communication in a Networked Society Damien Smith Pfister & Jordan Soliz We offer four theses about how intercultural communication is altered in a digitally networked era. Digital media shape intercultural communication by (1) producing new public fora capable of (2) hosting rich, multimodal ‘‘spaces’’ of contact on (3) a scale of many-to-many communication that (4) challenges traditional modes of representation. Keywords: Digital Media; Intercultural Communication; 2009 Iran Protests; Networked Communication As internetworked media technologies gradually diffused throughout the world, they have often been sparks for intercultural dialogue. Internet websites enabled web-savvy organizations, like the Zapatista Army of National Liberation, to circulate their views throughout the 1990s. The power of citizens to communicate directly with each other through digital media was not fully apparent until late 2002, when the pseudonymous Salam Pax began reporting through his blog what life was like for Iraqis in the run-up to the 2003 combat operations. Since then, citizens have relied on the tools of digital media to coordinate protests internally and communicate with outside audiences in a number of colorful revolutions: Rose (Georgia, 2003), Orange (Ukraine, 2004Á2005), Saffron (Burma, 2007), Green (Iran, 2009), and Jasmine (Tunisia, 2011). Engl 102 Db 1

...American culture relies heavily on media, and that is not as valuable to learning as literature. I completely agree. It stated that an American child from age five to age eighteen has viewed over 20,000 hours of television and electronic media. That is an abundant amount of time spent doing that opposed to spending time doing homework and studying. There needs to be more of a balance in the use of electronic curriculum and traditional curriculum. I know that when I was a child, my family didn’t even have cable, so it was a real treat when I would get to watch a movie, or any television on the non-cable channels. My family pushed the importance of reading books, and figuring out the message in everything I read. Television and media is making us lazy. We rely too much on electronics to do the work for us. Television requires very little brain activity, which is why when we watch it, we tend to zone out, or easily forget what was just said. When watching television we only tap into the emotional side of our brain, and never think logically. Everything we learn from television goes into our short-term memory, but when we use traditional curriculum, we have to think and comprehend everything, which goes into our long-term memory. For me personally, I am a much better learner when I have to read and comprehend something on my own. To summarize, people are becoming more dependent on electronics. If we start to think on our own, without the help of the media, we will become better cognitive...
