MEDICINAL LEECHES
Over the years, people have been more and more conscious about the expensive prices of farmaceutical drugs. Either is it for a simple cough, headache or blood pressure problems, all we hear is how much everything costs. Starting to think about it and talking to elderly people, we found out that majority of them would still like to get their hands on Russian drugs, which they say have more effect and are cheaper, because they are made in Russia. Let us also draw our attention to the fact, that the expensiveness situation does not only go for the elderly, but young people as well. We have found a solution, grown in our own backyard, processed in our own country, works for a dozen of diagnoses – medicinal leeches! For thousands of years, medicinal leeches have been one of the primary cures for many diseases. The following list brings out the main diagnoses which adobt to hirudotherapy like a charm: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. high blood pressure, liver problems, bronchitis and astma, chronical hepatitis, chronical constipation, hemorrhoids and radicular pain, mao ja kaheteistsoole tõbi (tõlkimata), gynecological problems, pancreas infection, tromboflebitis, stenocardia, infarct, cardiac insufficiency, prostate diseases, eye diseases.

As seen on the left, medicinal leech is perfect for being an alternative medicine. One leech sucks ca 15 ml of blood and meanwhile releases over 400 biologically active ingredients to human body, with the main ingredient being hirudin.

The other problem with the Estonian market is, that it is too small for large farmeceutical companies and it is almost impossible for our importers to get a good wholesale price on drugs. Therefore comes our high retail price in the first place; not considering the workforce, which only adds to prices. According to our calculations, it is possible to manage a fully operating leech farm with having only three or four people on a payroll. At the moment, there is only one firm, which imports live leeches to our hirudotherapeuts from Lithuania, but their sales are 500 leeches per month at max. That pushes the transportation costs to the skies, because live leeches can only be transported in a wooden crate filled with wet dirt and the shipment carries a lot of weight. Plus, 500 leeches a month for a decent-sized leech farm is nothing (again, price pushed up) compared to the annual outcome of 50 000 leeches. Despite the fact, that we could supply our own hirudotherapeuts with live leeches, we must face the product leftover, but lately there was a laboratory built in Lääne-Virumaa, which dryfreezes food, leaving 98% of its value to account. OÜ Dryfreeze is the first of its kind in Estonia and cooperating with the company, we can dryfreeze our leftover and make hirudin powder, which is fully protein based and has no allergical affects on humans (tested). Hirudin powder sold in capsules would be a first of its kind on Estonian market and all natural. There is always room for change for the better. Why not start with expensive drug prices and bring alternative medicine to our people. Offering a different approach Estonians have never seen and heard of before. Let us bring long lost miracles back to this day!
