Meditation, the Proven Panacea for Today’s Fast-Paced Lives Heart pounding, hands sweating, and mind wandering to a million places at once, Maggie, an average student in high school, mentally prepares for the biology exam. She closes her eyes, rapidly reviewing the material she studied last night. To her dismay, her mind is blank. That guy’s cologne next to me smells so nice…Shoot, my nail polish is chipped…Did my Instagram photo reach 100 likes yet? … I need to text Rebecca back… I hope she’s not offended that I waited a day to text her… We should hang out on Saturday… Thoughts swamp Maggie’s mind. The test lands on her desk. The only question she knows is her name. Frustrated after the test, Maggie googles ‘How to focus while taking …show more content…
She begins one of the exercises, obeying the instructions in the article. She straightens her back, crosses her legs, rests her hands gently on top of them and releases her tense shoulders. Phone in hand, she sets a timer for one minute, the suggested time for beginners. Gazing downward with her eyes softly closed, Maggie focuses solely on her breath. She reminds herself that it is normal to have a wandering mind during meditation. When this happens, she focuses once more on her breath without judgment. In, out. In, out. In, out. Wait, what about my English paper due tomorrow? I need to write my conclusion! I guess I’ll just rephrase my intro…Oh shoot! My mind wandered…Okay. Breathe. In, out. In, out. “DING! DING! DING!” Slowly, Maggie opens her eyes and smiles. Instantaneously, she feels her stress alleviate. Her mind clears and becomes alert of her body and the surrounding environment. Even though Maggie meditated for one minute, this simple act diminished her …show more content…
Eight weeks, according to a study conducted by Harvard University, is approximately how long it takes before they begin. These benefits can satisfy common deprivations. Improved levels of energy, resilience to change, decision-making, memory, intelligence and interpersonal relationships are just a few that lead to a higher quality life. The study also found that the areas of the brain responsible for feelings of empathy, sense of self and stress regulation grew. Mindful meditation allows you to focus on the present rather than past or future events. When your mind drifts to thoughts that are not about the now, you can feel unnecessary anxiety, sorrow, remorse and other mood

Nihilism

...(but misleading) description of nihilism is the 'belief in nothing'. Instead, a far more useful one would substitute 'faith' for 'belief' where faith is defined as the "firm belief in something for which there is no proof." A universal definition of nihilism could then well be the rejection of that which requires faith for salvation or actualization and would span to include anything from theology to secular ideology. Within nihilism faith and similar values are discarded because they've no absolute, objective substance, they are invalid serving only as yet another exploitable lie never producing any strategically beneficial outcome. Faith is an imperative hazard to group and individual because it compels suspension of reason, critical analysis and common sense. Faith is "don't let those pesky facts get in the way of our political plan or our mystically ordained path to heaven"; faith is "do what I tell you because I said so". All things that can't be disproved need faith, utopia needs faith, idealism needs faith, and spiritual salvation needs faith. Fuck faith. The second element nihilism rejects is the belief in final purpose, that the universe is built upon non-random events and that everything is structured towards an eventual conclusive revelation. This is called teleology and it's the fatal flaw plaguing the whole rainbow of false solutions from Marxism to Buddhism and everything in between. Teleology compels obedience towards the fulfillment of "destiny" or "progress"...

...WRITING REFERENCES Citi: Oil Could Plunge to $20, and This Might Be 'the End of OPEC' "It looks exceedingly unlikely for OPEC to return to its old way of doing business," Morse wrote. Despite global declines in spending that have driven up oil prices in recent weeks, oil production in the U.S. is still rising, wrote Edward Morse, Citigroup's global head of commodity research. Brazil and Russia are pumping oil at record levels, and Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran have been fighting to maintain their market share by cutting prices to Asia. The market is oversupplied, and storage tanks are topping out. A pullback in production isn't likely until the third quarter, Morse said Vets fight to save hero dog who tried to shield owner from house fire "She's doing OK. Drug Abuse

...RESEARCH ON THE TRENDS IN DRUG ABUSE AND EFFECTIVE MEASURES FOR THE TREATMENT OF THE DRUG ABUSERS IN ASIAN COUNTRIES AN ANALYSIS OF INNOVATIVE MEASURES FOR THE TREATMENT OF DRUG ABUSERS PREFACE Crimes related to drug abuse and the illegal manufacturing and trafficking of drugs are serious problems for virtually every country. The abuse of drugs has an adverse impact, not only on the individual abuser, but also on the economy and society of a country as a whole. Drug use and the problems that accompany it have an extremely deleterious effect on the healthy development of young people, especially. Due to the rapid increase in drug related crime and drug abusers in Asian countries, the establishment of effective countermeasures for demand and supply reduction are a pressing issue. In light of the above-mentioned situation, the United Nations Asia and Far East Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (UNAFEI); and the Research Division of the Research and Training Institute, Ministry of Justice jointly conducted a comprehensive study on drug abuser treatment, from 2002 to 2004, entitled “Research on the Trends in Drug Abuse and Effective Measures for the Treatment of the Drug Abusers in Asian Countries - An Analysis of Innovative Measures for the Treatment of Drug Abusers”. The Asian countries included in the study are: China (Hong Kong), Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. This is the first phase of the study on drug abuser treatment; the second...
