We also need to come up with processes that will help this acquisition transfer smoothly.
During this time, there may be some downsizing when both companies become one. Here we will need to be sensitive of others differences and look at the strength that will help with the company’s new mission. We also have to be careful regarding not to play favoritism, to be fair when analyzing the workforce, and the new teams that this acquisition will gain.

Among the other tasks I had to make, I will not just analyze the memo but I will evaluate the author’s argument as objectively as possible. I will also provide a thorough evaluation of the issues presented and assess ideas critically, demonstrating clear and consistent treatment of each evaluation. Furthermore, I will verify the information that was in the memo and I will note what is not in the memo. For the last closure of the argument, I will end this paper with a conclusion of what I have critically completed. 1. What are the issues and conclusions? Communication Methods

...Communication Methods MGT 505 Staci Jones August, 24, 2013 Dr. Stephanie Lyncheski Strayer University 1. First choose five different communication methods listed in chapter eight, and identify an advantage for each of them. In the business world memos serves multiple purposes, but regardless of their intended purpose it should reflect standard formatting elements. Because most organizations are quite large and diversified, memos provide an effective means of internal communication. According to (Rzadkiewicz, 2013) some advantages to communication, memos are convenient because not only is it easy to prepare and fast to transmit but also requires little time to read. It also provides a written record both for the recipient and the sender, which helps clarify information and prevents misunderstandings. The disadvantage of using electronic memos is that they do not provide the ability to read body language. The sender has to take additional time to write a draft form, proof read, grammar check, before the memo is sent. Also, email communication lacks important nonverbal communication, such as tone of the voice, which helps one to understand the message. Face to face communication is the foundation of communications. Once the foundation is established, it enables all forms of communication. It forms a personal connection that builds trust and minimizes misinterpretation and misunderstanding (Martin, 2007). The advantages of face to face communication is being able to...

Asking the Right Questions

...controversy responsible for the conversation or discussion. It is the stimulus for what is being said. The main issue within this memo surrounds the rising cost of employee healthcare benefits. The author of the document, Salvador Monella, is the Senior Vice President of Human Resources. This information is vital in proving that Monella has a vested interest and responsibility in reducing the cost of health benefits, paid for by Penn-Mart. Browne and Keeley (2012) proceed to explain how a conclusion is a statement or set of statements that the writer or speaker wants you to believe. The conclusion within this memo is that Penn-Mart should institute a wellness initiative in support of lowering the cost of health care for employees.. Monella then goes on to support the conclusions by providing high level reasoning. What are the Reasons? The text defines reasons as beliefs, evidence, metaphors, analogies, and other statements offered to support or justify conclusions (Browne and Keeley, 2012, p. 28). The reason Monella suggested Penn-Mart institute the wellness initiative consisting of the mandatory health screening is to reduce company spending on company-sponsored health plans. Which Words or Phrases are Ambiguous? Ambiguity refers to the existence of multiple possible meanings for a word or phrase (Browne and Keeley, 2012, p. 41). The memo has several phrases that are ambiguous. The first example...

...communication usually flowed through proxies, with the top management using selected employees to pass on messages to other employees at the shop floor. Inasmuch as the shop floor employees played a very crucial role in the company, they were not involved in the daily meetings and they did not directly interact with such superior employees, as the vice-president of the company, George. These indirect communications often resulted to misunderstandings that in turn demoralized junior employees, such as John. The lack of communication between senior company employees and their subordinates created a series of negative issues that would further affect the relationship and the overall functioning of the company. Another issue evident in the way information flowed at ABC Limited is that no one bothered to iron things out in case of a misunderstanding. This was probably due to the created perception that management “did not really feel they had anything to learn from the floor employees” (para.2). In this case, the wanting communication between managers and shop floor employees within the company was because of various barriers that interfered with the communication process. The barriers identified in this case involve encoding, transmission, and responding. Lack of sensitivity in this case counts as the first barrier. The management does not adapt communications for shop floor employees; “the directions in the memos were complex” (para.3). This makes messages to be decoded or interpreted inaccurately...

Memo Assignment

...IT 500 Help With Memo Assignment Here is a general structure that you can use for your memo assignment. To: All Employees From: HR Department (or your name) Date: Today RE: My Memo Assignment XYZ... Opening lines would state what is being done, such as a policy on recording phone calls, monitoring emails, and so on. There is no minimum or maximum length here. Averages tend to be two or three paragraphs. Controversies Note the section heading. This helps to distinguish the text that you include to discuss controversies. As a hint, why is your topic controversial? What part of the opening paragraph stating the policies might someone find controversial and why? One may assume that stating “we are reading your email” is controversial, but why? Is it that the employees may expect such things to be private, but the company states otherwise? Best practice is to spell it out and not assume (even though in many cases the controversy may seem obvious). This is your chance to show critical thinking and analysis of why this is a controversy. Within the context of the memo, you can use writer’s prose to explain this to your employees if you want (not required, just a suggestion). Legislation Again, note the section title; this helps the reader distinguish your objective. Think of it in terms of you as an employee. If HR sends you a memo, you may not want to read an entire law word-for-word. Instead, consider mentioning a law by name, and giving a three- or four-sentence...
