Merging Teachers In The Game By Michael Crowley

Crowley writes, “. . .up to five percent of teachers are so bad they’re ‘doing damage to their students.’” He continues to write that teachers around the nation are repeatedly failing their basic certification tests. The simple fact that teachers are doing more harm than good for their students is astonishing. I feel as though the people doing the teaching should be proficient in their subject in order to accurately teach. Boards of education should not ignore the results of these teachers’ tests but rather make an effort to have better qualified staff. Teachers are meant to provide their students with valuable information that will be of use to them in the future. If there are teachers that are incapable of providing this service, then they should not be allowed to teach. In his article, Crowley also claims that the process of firing a teacher is more complex than would be imagined. He writes that it can take years to fire a teacher and also costs a lot …show more content…
Crowley credits the large amount of insufficient teachers to “. . .‘a game of passing the lemons.’” In this “game,” principals transfer teachers to different schools rather than firing them. Transferring teachers in now way solves the problem of inadequacy but it further develops the it. To me the transferring of teachers illustrates the lack of care some of these people have for education of students; it makes me wonder why these people sought careers in education. Situations, like the one listed above, lead me to think that principals and people working in the schools should not have the power to decide what school a teacher works at. I believe that the Board of Education should appoint teachers to schools as well as handle the hiring and firing of these people. If the Board of Education takes over those few tasks and creates a tougher standard for teachers, then the students will greatly

...instructor’s manual for the sixth edition of A First Look at Communication Theory because it’s a first-rate book and because we enjoy talking and writing about pedagogy. Yet when we recall the discussions we’ve had with colleagues about instructor’s manuals over the years, two unnerving comments stick with us: “I don’t find them much help”; and (even worse) “I never look at them.” And, if the truth be told, we were often the people making such points! With these statements in mind, we have done some serious soul-searching about the texts that so many teachers—ourselves included—frequently malign or ignore. As we have considered our quandary, we have come face-to-face with the central paradox that characterizes the genre: Teaching manuals tend to be distant, mechanical, impersonal, and lifeless, when in fact good teaching is immediate, flexible, personal, and lively. In this manual, therefore, we have attempted to communicate to fellow teachers...

...FOR BLYTHE Acknowledgments My profound thanks to three dear friends with whom I have the great luxury of working: my editor, Jason Kaufman; my agent, Heide Lange; and my counselor, Michael Rudell. In addition, I would like to express my immense gratitude to Doubleday, to my publishers around the world, and, of course, to my readers. This novel could not have been written without the generous assistance of countless individuals who shared their knowledge and expertise. To all of you, I extend my deep appreciation. To live in the world without becoming aware of the meaning of the world is like wandering about in a great library without touching the books. The Secret Teachings of All Ages ———————————— FACT: In 1991, a document was locked in the safe of the director of the CIA. The document is still there today. Its cryptic text includes references to an ancient portal and an unknown location underground. The document also contains the phrase “It’s buried out there somewhere.” All organizations in this novel exist, including the Freemasons, the Invisible College, the Office of Security, the SMSC, and the Institute of Noetic Sciences. All rituals, science, artwork, and monuments in this novel are real. ———————————— Prologue House of the Temple 8:33 P.M. The secret is how to die. Since the beginning of time, the secret had always been how to die. The thirty-four-year-old initiate gazed down at the human skull cradled in his palms. The skull was hollow, like...

There is now an identifiable trend in industry toward downsizing that is replacing expensive mainframe computers with more cost-effective networks of personal computer that achieve the same or even better results. This trend has given rise to the architecture of the Client/Server Computing. The term Client/Server was first used in the 1980s in reference to personal computers on a network. The actual Client/Server model started gaining acceptance in the late 1980s. The term Client/Server is used to describe a computing model for the development of computerized systems. This model is based on the distribution of functions between two types of independent and autonomous entities:...
